The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 32

If only there was a different Fantasy Premier League chip – one that allows you to extend the allowed allocation for one particular team in our squads – then we’d be far more content tonight.

As it is, we can only choose three members of Mauricio Pochettino’s irrepressible Spurs side and, right now, that proves rather problematic.

I almost felt like curling up in a corner after deciding to sell Son Heung-min. But, having played the percentages with my late acquisition of Dele Alli, my ill-fated Gameweek 32 transfers were undoubtedly driven by this very issue.

With Harry Kane returning to the picture and both Alli and Eriksen maintaining relentless form, even the brilliant and combustible Son struggles to justify selection.

There’s no questioning his value to us at present – priced at 7.0, his goal threat and flair is a hugely tempting proposition. His devastating 19-point return is destined to see him earn a flood of new owners and yet, as mentioned, the likes of Kane, Alli and Eriksen surely have to remain Spurs’ top three assets.

Alli’s sublime strike for Spurs’ opener means he has now produced 13 goals from his last 15 Gameweek starts. He is by far the top scoring midfield asset over that spell and simply has to claim a berth for the run-in.

Meanwhile, Kane’s return shakes up the situation up front but, like Alli, his potential surely has to force our hand.

He scored 12 goals from 10 Gameweek starts before being derailed by injury and, in this efficient Spurs attacking unit, he promises to go on delivering at that kind of rate. With 6.7 points per match, he remains peerless among FPL forwards.

Then there’s Eriksen, perhaps the most disposable of the three, but still a prime Fantasy asset. His assist today took him to 14 for the season, with ten arriving in his last nine home matches. Only Alli and Bournemouth’s Josh King has scored more points than the Dane over the last 15 Gameweeks.

It’s so difficult to justify looking beyond this trio, then, even with Son’s obvious appeal on offer.

Significantly, we have to consider that, should Pochettino revert to a three-man defence with wing-backs, Son’s starting role will no longer be assured.

Eriksen and Alli will likely support Kane, with the wing-backs providing width and Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele sitting deep. Son would be reduced to rotation and cameo roles at that point – and that point could arrive very soon.

Spurs take on Chelsea in an FA Cup semi-final following the Gameweek 33 home clash with Bournemouth. Pochettino seems set to go into that Wembley tie with a formation that mirrors Chelsea – reverting to 3-4-2-1, with Rose perhaps fit to return. Will he switch back following the semi-final? It’s certainly a consideration for those pondering a move for Son.

At least today’ teamsheet at White Hart Lane offered an obvious fall-guy to free-up a spare Spurs slot.

With the 36% owned Kyle Walker benched for a second Gameweek in three, he is already topping the sales charts as managers clear the decks for investment in midfield and attack.

It’s unfortunate that, with the Chelsea defence still unable to claim clean sheets, we can’t look to Spurs to help reinforce out backlines.

But with such attacking riches on offer, if we’re being forced to overlook Son’s form, then a rested Walker and even budget proposition Ben Davies, have little hope of claiming one of our now treasured Spurs allocations.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So many what ifs etc. this week. Was certain to downgrade Son and bring Kane in (3 Spurs already). Difficult to tell how Spurs will line up, surely it'll be the same but Kane in place of Janssen. Not sure if Ibra/United will be interested, with the double gameweeks coming the week after I'm tempted to save to ensure those I bring in aren't there for too long.

I don't see how Poch drops Son after the last 2 games (goals and linkup play). Think a simple Kane for Janssen is most likely.

Poch is all about the system. Very good chance he sets up the way he intends to face Chelsea a week later. I think I'm dropping Son to accommodate Kane. I'll be at the game and this could really spoil the day if I've got it wrong!

I'm not sure if he goes back to 3 at the back then Wanyama will come in for Son but I can't see him dropping Son after the last few games

Did Kun to Kane last night and have 1 FT left:

    A) Fletcher to Zaha (Play my AOO next week, do Llorente to Negredo week after)
    B) Llorente to Benteke (would have to do Siggy to Zaha week after)
    C) Save

    Jaku, Grant,
    Alonso, Valencia, Davies, Evans, Amat,
    Sanchez, Alli, Cout, Siggy, Fletcher,
    Kane, Kaku, Llorente.

Anyone here follows Spurs news closely? What is the deal with Walker? Surely he isn't rested 2 games out of 3. Is he carrying some injury that is not announced? I can understand him missing an easy game after the international break (playing 2 games for England) but why did he miss out yesterday? I missed the last 2 Spurs CS in a row and in games were Walker could have easily had some attacking returns too.

Watford are always going to sit deep and Trippier's excellent crossing was more important than Walker's pace behind. Walker would still be the obvious choice against more open teams.

Didn't he historically have a reputation of getting tired/injured this time of the season? Weren't there a few questions about his lifestyle a few years back? I think that is why Trippier was brought in to provide cover and competition to focus Walker. Could just have been hearsay.

He makes tackles / interceptions, crosses the ball, passes the ball and got an assist. BAPS rewards midfielders who do everything - tackle, pass, cross, make runs etc. Him playing at RB increases his chances of doing more as he makes more tackles and successful passes while still crossing and making runs.

He hit a good spell of form, mostly at home. Swansea at home is the first "easy" game we've had at home that he's blanked in over 6 games. For me though it's time he left my team. West Ham are gunna scrape 1-0 wins to stay up and lose the rest by 2 or 3.

Harry Kane the least essential premium striker?

Ibra - Which other United attckers are good options? Lingard at a push but in a poor non-flowing attack, Ibra gets the lion share of goals.

Lukaku - Gone back under the radar recently with two blanks against good opposition. Expect him to be back at his best again this week, who else is there from Everton to get? Barkley? Too inconsistent, Lukaku is the main man.

Aguero - Man in form for City BUT alternative attacking options at a budget option in Sane and Sterling. Also the most expensive striker.

Vardy - With four away games over the next four it's probably not even necessary to have a Leicester player, more of a player in form from their club that you'd want for that reason alone, think Defoe?

Costa - Hazard is the form guy for Chelsea, Pedro a nailed on budget midfielder. Costa not been in great goal scoring form, although if he gets back to the consistency he showed mid-season he'd be arguably better to own than Haz?

Kane - Just back from injury, not that it's stopped him before. Alli Eriksen and short-term Son are all good routes into that Spurs attack.

My main argument here is that at most we will have 3 striker slots (presuming you're playing 3-4-3). And for me I can't justify ripping my team up to accomadate Kane, yes I would like him but With Ibra/Lukaku/Sanchez taking up the premium spots in my team and Alli looking essential, there's no need for Kane, you really can't have them all. Can cover city/Chelsea with the likes of Sane and Pedro if I wanted to and already have 3 Spurs players which should be plenty of cover (Alison Davies).

Anyone else going Kaneless? He's a great option but not for my team.

I agree completely, cover for Everton for example is a myth. But Spurs goals come from everywhere. If you've got Alli/Eriksen you should be covered, for me the worst goal combo would be Eriksen to Kane so that worries me most.

DGW34 does not look that appealing.

Palace playing Liverpool away (immense home record for Liv) and Spurs at home (immense record against teams in the Bottom 10 away)
Utd playing Burnley away (immense home record for Bur) and Mci away (good record at home too)
Boro have the best fixtures (bou, SUN), but they are a poor team and the fixtures before and after GW34 are terrible.
