The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 33

With the day billed as a head-to-head between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, it was the Spurs man who ultimately came out on top – rewarding those who move to adopt him early to maximise his potential as a short-term differential.

The gap was six points – hardly a huge margin but enough to elevate Kane’s status and ensure that he’s currently second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with Manchester United’s two fixtures – for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34 so far.

In contrast, Lukaku looks destined for an ownership loss as traffic moves to Ibrahimovic: there is already a deficit with only Diego Costa, and Jamie Vardy sold more among forwards at this point.

Selling Lukaku remains a scary prospect – with 12 goals in ten, 13 in his last eight at home – the Everton striker could easily punish the shift to the United man.

He will face a trip to West Ham, while Ibrahimovic squares up to both Burnley and Manchester City away. With a Goodison Park encounter with Chelsea to follow before we shift to Double Gameweek assets, for many Fantasy managers, today will be the final farewell for Lukaku – a player who has been a spectacular servant since the season’s mid-way point.

Kane is heading in the opposite direction.

While the Spurs midfield is awash with consistent options – a fact demonstrated again in today’s win over Bournemouth – Kane is surely now the premium striker of choice.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in irrepressible form, with Kane now back installed as the spearhead to feed off the first-class service provided by Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in particular.

Kane went into the today’s encounter as part of 590,000 squads, with 251,000 of those owners immediately trusting him with the captaincy.

He was to score and assist for only the third time this season, sealing the maximum bonus to double Lukaku’s six-point tally.

Having delivered on the armband, Fantasy managers are now faced with a dilemma.

Ibrahimovic is clearly being brought in for his two fixtures as the default captaincy option and yet Spurs’ form, even heading into a testing trip to Crystal Palace, is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the past four matches for all sides, Pochettino’s men have scored 13 goals – five more than any other side. They also lead the way for attempts, shots in the box and big chances.

Comparing them directly with United, they’ve recorded 38 shots on target compared to 21 from Jose Mourinho’s side when both sides’ last four matches are considered.

Even if we can be certain that Ibrahimovic will figure in both his Gameweek 34 fixtures, it’s debatable whether he can better Kane’s potential output.

Spurs are seemingly hellbent on maintaining their title challenge, and the striker himself appears focused on closing on Lukaku in the Golden Boot race.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Spurs and Kane have outscored double Gameweek assets and punished those who dare overlook them. In Gameweek 34 last season, they hit four at Stoke City with Kane firing a brace after 200,000 shipped him out.

Nobody will be selling Kane this time around, but it’s the armband decision that looks key.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So far this season, Ibra had his most shots against two teams. Burnley at home (12, yes 12 shots) and Man City at home( 10 shots).

Slight thoughts about not getting Ibra. If he got that many shots against them in the reverse fixtures then its too big a risk to go without this DGer

Depends which way you look at it, he's more than capable of playing only one and blanking in that, those who avoid and C someone who hauls in one week could benefit from him.

I'm looking at eight DGW players. None of them play each other, I think, so the ceilings are very high for this dgw because of the FA Cup conflicts.

I know is but you will have pretty much given away one clean sheet with a hit so really need them to keep 2 CS unless you are banking on bonus/attacking returns. Probably worth a punt though.

                Gibson 2+2 pts

Really pleased with this week. Successfully shut out my rival (and brother) by anticipating his moves and (c) pick, and gained 4 pts on him, plus I moved up inside top 5k for the first time. He also gained ground on his decent money works ML to within 8 pts of his leader.

Actually considering benching Sané (MUN) for De Roon (bou, SUN) next week... Crazy?

    Henny
    Valencia, Robertson, McAuley*
    Sanchez, Firmino, Zaha, De Roon
    Zlatan (C), Aguero, Benteke (vc)

    Jaku, Sané, Yoshida, Cedric.
1 FT, 0.4 ITB. *Probably spending FT on McAuley-> Gibson.

Thinking about it actually. Not sure if it's could be better in GW 36 or GW 38 (used my TC already).

Although Robertson at home to Watford isn't the worst option.

Yeah Hull at home vs. Watford would be a decent CS shout. But if you look at the AOA as a Robertson vs. Sane benching decision, it's easy, isn't it?

Would like to point out that the schedule is very tricky for this week: FA Cup matches for the big SGW clubs before they play their midweek league matches, then GW35 hot on the heels of those fixtures.

I posted on the last page about City - would we expect Sane and Aguero to start all these matches? I plan to keep because I like them both, but not if rotation is expected.

all the better for Ibra v Man C ... followed by SWA ... nice

Both Man Utd and City play on Sunday. Man Utd will only have 2 days of rest before the Burnley game, and 2 days of rest before the Swansea game. That can have a massive impact on Ibra's service.

People will just have to take into consideration that Sunderland, Leicester and Southampton will have an advantage going into the mid-week games in GW34. Tottenham will have a slight advantage with 1 more days rest than Palace.

Yh, but his fixtures are horrific. I know there's not much in that price bracket

Very timely though 😉 Would've been even more relevant if the footballing Jesus wasn't injured.

I did it , I'm sick of Siggy and think the 4 incoming players have massive potential and 3 extra fixtures to pick up points, ml rival has Kane so needed to counter him , happy Iv done it before Siggy /Zaha price swing Costa /Ibra price swing etc

maybe obvious but not mentioned much is that SPU / ARS / MANC all play twice in wk 34, it's just not a double gw for points

I know players can be disappointing in a dgw but those only playing for points the once will also suffer the same negative affect
I'd argue the semis at Wembley will be more of an effort than a normal prem game

I feel this dgw could be hit or miss. So it might not be a big deal going without a few of em.

      Not really.

You're playing against the whole game and not just the good planning on here. Looking at ownership levels I suspect the number of DGW players for the game at large this time will only be about three...as a guesstimate.

Not the greatest DGW on paper so you might get away with it but 3-5 DGW would be usual. Not much worth a hit since you are in this position, might get Ibra though, depends on who you would lose.
