Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Gameweek 36 – Friday

Double Gameweek 36 gets up and running at the London Stadium this evening as West Ham United entertain title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur.

The visitors roll up knowing that a win would take them to just one point behind Chelsea at the summit, with attacking trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen playing a prominent role in many Wildcards selctions over the last few days.

All three have merited our attention.

Kane – who has already picked up 13 points against the Hammers in Gameweek 12 – has seven goals and three assists in his last five starts and is second only to Alexis Sanchez in our Gameweek 36 Captain Poll, with 11% backing.

Eriksen has delivered double-figures in each of his previous two road trips, while Alli’s run of eight returns in the last nine Gameweeks has taken him to nine points off the top of the FPL player standings.

Devoid of a Double Gameweek, Fantasy interest in West Ham’s assets is minimal at best – the main impact will be their ability to breach a defence that’s conceded just once in their previous six.

Slaven Bilic’s side will take some solace in their 3-2 loss at White Lane back in November, though – that was one of only five times that Spurs have conceded more than a single goal in the league this season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I wonder if the guy that's got the highest points total so far this gameweek but has never even made a transfer all season even knows this is his Andy Warhol moment...

Bizarre, 4 x WHam players, which I get if he already had Fonte before he signed from Southampton - but I thought fpl forced a manger to go to 3 max at the the following deadline?

If you end up with 4 players, when you make a transfer you must take one of those players out. But that doesn't mean you have to make a transfer, you can spend the rest of the season without any further transfers and 4 (or even more I guess, if possible) players from one team.

Re Hop Topic. Can someone please explain what possible benefit you can gain by not pressing the wc button until as close to the deadline as possible? Is it really as simple as thinking that by disguising your transfer as not being on a wc you think you might be able to trick the algorithm into a price rise?

    1. Pep says
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 12 months ago

Well if everybody didn't press the wildcard until later in the week, then price rises would be I overdrive however this is a pointless exercise as only a very small percentage know about this..

In theory, if everybody was on the same page and worked together, they could gain 1m+ in TV but it's not so it's stupid not to hit the button as soon as you begin

That includes me not knowing about this..enlighten me if you don't mind....if my ML rivals doesn't hit the WC until late in the week, somehow I can see this and think he is not playing his WC??? Or are you strictly talking about FPL stats and price rise/falls???

Maybe trying to throw off your mini league rivals by making them think you are going to take the hits or vainly trying to influence the price changes in the belief that enough managers done this it would fool fpl

Dont forget the fpl champion done this two seasons ago and took something like a -44 hit and went on to win fpl that year

Can't you see your rivals team value fluctuate throughout the week to keep an eye on transfers or something?

      Am I imagining that?

I did 10 + transfers and only hit the wc button yesterday to activate the wc for reasons above

Your rival can see your team value fluctuate anyway and if you don't press the button they can see how many transfers you've made so if anything they gain more info from you not activating the wc

    Early thoughts towards GW 37.
    BB.
    Cech, Pickford.
    Yoshida, Davies, Stephens, Holgate*, Bailly.
Sanchez (c), Hazard, King*, Alli, De Roon*.
    Gabby, Jesus, Kane.

    1ft, 4.1m
Two options as I see it-

    1. Replace De Roon- (8.5m)- Maybe Siggy?
    2. Replace Gabby with Costa.

Straight swap with Costa is one option-

The other is to downgrade Alonso/Vert/Hazard (maybe move for Ake who is due a couple of games) and replace Gabby?

      1. Moose™
        • 11 Years

With those fixtures, I am afraid not owning Costa. But, if Chelsea wins again Middlesbrough this week, then yes. Chelsea assets might be heavily rotated in GW37.

Very difficult. Looking at either a straight swap for Costa or having to downgrade one of Sánchez or Hazard in order to bring him in for Gabbiadini.

        How about:

Costa + JWP + Vert --> Jesus + King + Monreal(0.1 short to get Kosc)

        Worth -4 right?

        1. Football Weekender
          • 7 Years

I don't see any reason to get rid of JWP or Vertonghen though? Instead of doing that you could just do Costa ➡️ Jesus. Your issue is getting Jesus in, the rest of the team is fine.

I think it comes down to two choices personally. Either:

          Costa ➡️ Jesus

          or

          Hazard & Gabbiadini ➡️ Pedro & Jesus

Palace have a decent fixture in 37 so I don't see any real need to get rid? Depends on how caught up in double gameweek fever you are!

If either Costa ➡️ Jesus or Hazard & Gab ➡️ Pedro & Jesus leaves you with enough ITB to upgrade to an Arsenal DF then yeah, I'd say go for it.

Early take on transfer thoughts for GW37..,

I think G.Jesus is a must and have it down to two choices:

Valencia & Benteke ➡️ £4.7m or less DF & Jesus

    or

    Kane & Benteke ➡️ Costa & Jesus

    Caballero, Pickford
    Alonso, Valencia, Davies, Yoshida, Chambers
    Sánchez, Hazard, Alli, Sané, Ward-Prowse
    Kane, Benteke, Gabbiadini

    1FT
    £0.5m ITB

Yeah, plenty of games to be played yet. I won't be making any moves until next Thursday at the earliest, although by that point I'd imagine Jesus will have gone up in value a couple of times so it may be a £4.5m or less defender I'd be looking at.

Early ideas on this lot with BB in mind?

    Caballero Pickford
    Alonso Daniels Holgate Gabriel Yoshida
    Sanchez Hazard Alli King Sane
    Kane Jesus Gabbi

    2FTs, 0.0 in bank.

    Happy to take a hit.

Yeah I guess that could be the case but that's all conjecture at this point, there's nothing to suggest that would be the case. GW38 would maybe be more of a risk given the FA Cup final the following weekend.

None of those three really play the LWB role. I can only see it happening if Conte changes formation, which I'm not exactly convinced he will. Cahill & Luiz more at risk.

I'm looking at it more from the point that if Gabriel is out of the team then bringing in anyone who has a DGW is an upgrade - i.e. 0pts vs at least 1pt.

wait and see what happens with Gabbi and Gabriel, but they would be the 2, I would target

Maybe slightly off the wall one here but how about Kompany - 3 home games, likes a goal, complete differential (I know City have defensive issues), seems to be locked in (as much as you can under Pep)

Don't understand the Gabriel Paulista love. If Arsenal play at the back it will be Bellerin at RB. 5 at the back it will be likely be Oxlade. So in the central spots he is fighting with Kosc/Mustafi/Holding and possibly Monreal (if 5 at the back).

Alonso, plays so far forward it's surprising he hasn't had more attacking returns than he has. Also Terry is going to play when the title is sealed so Cahill be may the one to make way

How much % we reckon of the Top 10k (or people on here) would have had 3 Spurs players last night??

A very weak start to the GW (especially with a -8 for good measure) but I may not be the only one hopefully.

I'd imagine most active teams (I'm sure some dead teams would be in the top 10k but not many) have at least 2 Spurs. I started the week ranked 9,993 (just inside!) and have Eriksen and Kane. Most teams I see here have at least 2 out of Eriksen, Alli, Kane and Vertonghen.

On average about 2 Spurs played for top 10Kers.
      Perhaps 20% have 3 making 0.6
      Perhaps 65% have 2 making 1.3
      1% have 0 making 0
      14% have 1 making 0.14

Yeah, now I m wondering what to do with the chips. I had setup for BB GW 37 which means TC 38. Only Chelsea's fixture is the easiest but will Hazard/Costa even play 90 mins? Or just TC GW37 with more options and BB 38?

        1. sunzip14
          • 7 Years

TC37 makes a strong case if you do not have too many dgwers sitting on the bench.

        2. Pierce34
          • 8 Years
          6 years, 12 months ago

I'd stick to the original plan and BB 37, there's going to be lots of unpredictable rotation in GW38 rendering a bench boost ineffective.

Just make sure you TC someone who's still playing for something. Chelsea will have almost certainly won the title before then so I'd steer clear, despite the fixture.

        1. Pierce34

Nope, triple captaining an out of form, disinterested player playing for a team with really inconsistent, disjointed performances and tough fixtures doesn't really inspire me with confidence. Only hope is the old 'form is temporary, class is permanent' adage.

And no offence, but triple captaining Negredo for GW34 was always going to end in tears!

          1. Postman Ty
            • 9 Years
            6 years, 12 months ago

Look what happened after Ibra was out of form in the mid-early season; was the best player in the league for a long stretch. Sanchez can get a goal or an assist in any game, and any sane person would back him to have good odds in a double. It's obviously not best case scenario, and nobody is expecting a hattrick, but it's still a Sanchez double gameweek.

As far as Negredo goes, no offence taken. I never intended to buy him, and haven't rated him all season. The Ibra injury really screwed my plan, and my ML season was over so I didn't mind throwing a punt out on a crappy striker with two great fixtures. Unfortunately, I realized shortly after that I could have saved it for this week since I WC'd early last week.

Ibra still had strong numbers to support his case for explosion but Sanchez's numbers are way down, probably even below likes of Pedro/Fraser... 😳

Yeah understandable. I did consider triple captaining Benteke in GW34 but decided to stick to the 'safe' option of Sanchez. I think I'll consider myself lucky if he matches Benteke's GW34 score.
