Fantasy Euros U21 Launches

The Under-21 Euros are starting  but while UEFA has let us down this year with no game our Polish friends are doing a good job covering.

An English version of the Polish Fantasy game for the event can be found here, where you can also find more details about the rules and scoring system.

In addition, a FFScout league has been created (code: 575933631).

The tournament is played in Poland and will have 12 teams competing from June 16-30. Teams are divided into three groups of four, with the group winners and the best runner up progressing to the semi-finals.

The deadline for initial selection of squads will be June 16, 5pm UK time, which is also the kick-off of first game, Sweden v England.

A quick glance through the rules tells us that we have unlimited transfers between each round, which means that bench cover is not very important, as long as you try to pick nailed players.

Players earn two points for winning a match so you want to be targeting big teams, while adding a few cheaper players from smaller teams to stay inside your budget.

Selecting your squad

As always U21 squads change a lot with players getting promoted to the national teams. Some teams have got their big stars back for this tournament, so predicting lineups for the first games can be a bit tricky.

Goalkeepers

Stoppers earn minus points for goals conceded and don’t earn any save points so going safe with a goalkeeper from one of the big teams is advisable. Gianluigi Donnarumma (9m, Italy) is priced very highly so instead perhaps consider Julian Pollersbeck (7.5m, Germany) or Everton bound Jordan Pickford (7m, England). Portugal’s goalkeepers have a big gap in price so there could be a potential bargain there, but without confirmation of their number 1 it may be best to wait.

Defenders

Defenders also earn minus points for goals conceded, but get four points for an assist. This has been noticed by many and it is no surprise that Hector Bellerin (8m, Spain) is the most popular defender. Other targets include two experienced attacking right-backs who have both also played as wingers for their clubs this season, Joao Cancelo (8m, Portugal) and Andrea Conti (7.5m, Italy). For other defenders look out for tonight’s England XI to see if any of the cheaper players get a start.

Midfielders

The highest priced midfielders include Saul Niguez (9.5m, Spain) and Renato Sanchez (9m, Portugal), who are very well-known but play in a deep midfield role and are not known for their scoring. Marco Asensio (9m, Spain) and Serge Gnabry (8.5m, Germany) are classified as midfielders but expected to play as wingers so may be better options.  Also consider Lewis Baker (England, 7.5m) and Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes (8.5m) and Joao Carvalho (7.5m).

Strikers

There is already a template attacking trio forming with Gerard Deulofeu (8.5m, Spain), Davie Selke (8.5m, Germany) and Patrik Schick (4.5m, Czech). All of these players did very well in qualifiers and are expected to continue where they left off. If you call yourself a maverick and want something different, then look for the two Italian Serie A big hitters, Federico Bernardeschi (8.5m) and Domenico Berardi (8m). Neither has an impressive record in the U21 but coming from one of the toughest leagues in Europe to play with kids, could mean a lot of points. England’s Tammy Abraham (6.5m), who is a loan target for both Newcastle and Brighton, could be another budget option if he starts tonight.

Here is a link to an earlier hot topic where you can find more information to help you with your selection,

I’ll be sure to keep a close eye on all different foreign websites for late news on lineups.

Last confirmed squad was at 2017-06-25 00:05:28. Change of the captain was at 2017-06-25 23:27:44 (so 23 hours later but as I said - not confirmed - because last confirmation was 23 hours earlier). Unfortunately for you.

As a page we inform as much as we are able [date is in red color, information about 'no confirmation' shows every time when you go into My squad, we underlined that in Rules in English and we resembled it via twitter]. We have some additional ideas, maybe they will help in future editions.

Maybe the fact that the page refreshes after you make a lineup or captain change confuses people a bit and they think everything is updated and good to go. I'm always double checking everything, so not a problem for me, but could be if you're in a rush.

      New transfer list released!

(Note: It seems like the values of players for GW4 were like in GW5, but it was my small mistake which doesn't affect anything, so I won't be correcting that)

      Anyway, have fun!

      Cheers,

I thought the purpose of creating a new transfer list was to make it humanly possible to put together a decent team, which was not possible in GW4. All that's changed now is that those few decent cheap options has become more expensive, making it even harder to put a decent team out!

For example, around 70-80% had all three of Mawson, Chilwell and Holgate because they were all 5.5 starters, in order to afford somewhat okay attackers. Yet still everyone had to pick the likes of Ramirez over Deulofeu and Philipp over Selke due to finance. Now the cheapest starting defender available is 7.5(!!) and Ramirez is 8.0!

I really hope you rework this, otherwise it's impossible to make up any ground in the final as we won't be able to afford any of the players likely to be in the points.

          I think you're exaggerating a bit.

Please look more carefully. There is other way around - now you can afford cheaper substitutes, which gives you more money to invest into main squad. GW5 is just one match, you'll know the line-ups at least hour before the deadline. Bench hardly matters if you have scoring eleven from the start. You can also play with some more expensive player and a cheaper one you predict might be a substitution. Remember Eder? 😉

In the end, most of the opinions about GW4 difficculty were positive, so we tried to stick with this gimmick.

True, it's still needs some effort to create decent team, but I was able to make one, even with Saul, so it cannot be that harsh!

Of course Ramirez is 8.0 now. He's the striker of favorite team.If you think he's not worth it - don't buy him! 😉

          Good luck everyone

I think a complete meal was made out of the pricing for round 4.

Of the 59 players who featured in the semi finals, the average price, rounded up to the nearest 0.5, was 7.5.

          15 x 7.5 = 112.5.

However, cheapest bench available was 21. Leaving 79 for 11 players.

Doable but a bit of a challenge, how easy do we want it? Surely these events we enter as a challenge.

I've had a look and I think the pricing is more than fair for the final. Do we honestly want pricing to be so easy we have generic 11s?

I'd argue the current pricing offers plenty of opportunity to climb ranks

You can find your profile under settings on the top right and there you would have had to give your name and phone number, tick the acceptance of personal data, confirm with green button and then it shows a green text of "Personal data fulfilled! You play for prizes!" under "Your Data Settings". It says you had to do that before GW3.

Doesn't look like it. Bit of a mess by the site really, considering they actually tried to make it better but have in fact probably made it worse. This is my best attempt so far:

      No GK.
      Mere Vallejo Castro
      Saul Asensio Llorente Suarez Arnold
      Williams Phillip.

  19. VS10_

Might as well just back Germany for the bants. Can't win it from 64 OR, but could maybe get to first page if Germany manage to cause an upset and if that happens could be in with a shout of highest round scorer. Realistically will probably drop down at least hundred places, but doesn't really matter anymore.

Find it a bit ridiculous that even when backing the underdog, if Stark and Selke are fit and Kehrer and Platte don't start, then I might have to go without a keeper. Also annoying that after adding nine Germans, the two cheapest Spain starters cost 7.5m+ and likely subs 7m too. For example, not sure what was the point of upping defensive mid Llorente from 7m to 7.5m.

    1. CloudSky
      • 7 Years

Agreed, I can barely make a decent team if I go without a goalie. Absolutely zero reason to up some players.

So they priced some players 5 and 6 which we can use as bench fodders. Good.

    Aim of this is
It frees the space to use those funds purely on starting XI. Nice Nice.

Then they Increase the price of players like Ceballos,Vallejo,Llorente,Kempf,Sandro R. etc. which we want in our teams.

So essentially The funds freed by having 5.0 6.0 bench fodders wont be of much use coz to get the same players we had in previous rounds we have to pay 1.0 more for them. Bloody

As mentioned above they have probably made it worse even.

  21. Tom from #FantasyEuroU21

C'mon guys. If the budget was 'easier' all squads would look the same. We wanted to avoid it. Everyone would have Saul, Asensio, Gnabry, Selke, Toljan, Bellerin, Sandro. At least. 7 same players in each team. All squads would differ 3-4 players. What's the sense? GW4 was a challenge and we wanted to remain this convention. Now you need to choose between these players and also predict some valuable sub (one, maybe two; depends on squad choices). Before we released the transfer list we made tests and we convinced ourselves that it is possible to create decent teams. Also with GK.

So... take GW5 as a challenge! Fantasy Pilkarzyki never let win noobs. Here real managers count! 🙂

We should be able to pick whatever We want.
9 from Spain or 9 from Germany, or a Mix team.
      And that, Tom, its impossible.

      1. Tom from #FantasyEuroU21

        Example 1 - Spanish:

Kepa (XI) - Bellerin (XI), Mere (XI), Vallejo (XI), Castro (XI) - Asensio (XI), Llorente (XI), Haberer (XI), Dahoud (Sub) - Williams (Sub 'for 100%'), Platte (Sub 'for 100%' after goal)

You have 8 Spanish, almost everyone will perform for 100%, one weak point, but still possible - Dahoud.

        Example 2:

Pollersbeck (XI) - Toljan (XI), Gerhardt (XI), Kempf (XI), Jung (XI, if not - some other DEF is cheaper) - Gnabry (XI), Haberer (XI), Suarez (Sub), Oyarzabal (Weak Sub but possible) - Selke (XI), Phillip (XI, if not - other striker is cheaper).

You have 9 from Germany, almost everyone will perform for 100%, one weak point, but still possible: Oyarzabal.

        Impossible is nothing.

But Noobs of Norway might just win it in the end 😛

Well its right that there should be no easy budget but the thing about same players I think many will have 6-7 players same anyway in their teams .if there is any cheap starter all will pounce of him too due to money.

Looks like to make up ground you havent got much chance tbh

And to get a Decent team most would have to go with two 4.0 GKs iI think just like many of us did in the last round too and that's only for decent I repeat

I see it as a positive.

At the end of the day, we are all playing this game to occupy our time until FPL officially opens. These summer months can be painful.

An easy budget would take up 5 minutes of our time. This challenging budget gives us plenty to research and mull over. Certainly kept me occupied whilst I've been working nights.

I'd like to say I think the guy from #FANTASYEUROU21 have done a stellar job. I personally was gutted upon hearing uefa.com were not running an official game but I feel the guys in Poland have accommodated us English speaking players excellently

Tom, if you have visited these pages before you know one our favorite things is to complain. But I think the criticism about player prices and budget is pretty reasonable this time. Other than that you have done an excellent job with communication and running the game.

I just started to build from scratch, decided to back mainly Spain, ignored the three best attacking players from each team: Saul, Asensio, Deulofeu, Gnabry, Meyer and Selke. Ignored two of the best attacking defenders in Bellerin and Toljan. Picked two "super-subs" in Amiri and Williams. Got just in to budget, but I had to pick the worse option in every position and this team is pretty crap.

Well, depending on Selke and if the game lasts 90 or 120 mins, that could be a non-playing gk and three subs getting maybe 30 minutes of game time in total. Tom was saying you can get a playing gk with 1-2 subs and that's what I went with above, but couldn't get any of the eight more expensive options. If Kehrer and Platte start then it could be okayish.

Suarez. Platte Williams ( Not starters)

So basically 5-6 at best players of use. .
        Admit it this is shambles

Stark can easily be swapped out but we'll see the line-ups. I can easily swap shift some funds and get Ceballos instead of Suarez. Possibly ditching Williams.

It's not ideal but it's not as bad as everyone makes out. Like I've previously said, plenty of scenarios to mull over

        4.0
        Stark, Castro, Mere
        Arnold, Saul, Asensio, Ceballos, Haberer/Dahoud/Amiri
        Platte, Ramirez

Majoral to possibly cover a Platte no show

A game of football where you cant field 11 players its a disgrace.

Give these guys a break. They made the effort to put on a Euro U21 fantasy game when nobody else did. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing.

That's why I also gave them credit for the overall experience because it's not all negative.

I also forgot to say that they were very generous not to bump Kehrer to 7m like Jung and Platte to 7.5m, in case they end up starting. 😉

Still also hoping that maybe Klunter could come in for Gerhardt who wasn't very good again and looked exhausted in the end.

Raising the budget to 105 would probably solve the drama. No need to adjust prices

That's how uefa used to do the final. Increase the budget

I've had a quick look at the prices, and I like them.

I would've lowered the prices of the starting goalkeepers a bit, because it's too easy to save money by not going with them. They don't get save points. They are unlikely to get offensive points. You save 3.5-4.0 by not going with one.

Overall I prefer these prizes over being easily able to field an 11. Finals tend to be the most boring part of tournament fantasy games. This is going to be a fun challenge.

For me it's a good challenge if we get a couple of cheaper German starters, because even with those you still have to make some decisions with the premium players. Uefa didn't get it perfect either, if I remember correctly in the final the budget was so lenient that we could just pick whoever. Agree on keepers, but it is what it is now.
I think I have said enough on this now and don't want to sound too negative when this has been an entertaining two weeks after all.

There is at least few tactics how to field your team (all checked for game budget):

    1. Bank on 0:0 - field 1-5-4-1 or 1-5-3-2
Cheapset Def + 4 cheapest mids (points for CS) or 1-5-3-2

With that budget you can do first tactic with 1-2 players that are always comming form bench (Oyarzabal, Amiri etc) or field all starters (second tactic)

    2. Bank on many goalz and a draw 2:2, 3:3 etc - field 0-0-4-3 or 0-1-4-3
No GK + No Def + Heavy hitters

Hope that few players from both sides will score and no points for winning a game. Here you ignore GK and Def. Get Asensio, Maeyer, Selke etc. Goals will be spread around all of them so you get players from both sides and ignore the back because they won't get any points or even -1, -2.

    3. Bank on Spa win and many goalz but score like 4:3 etc - field 0-1-5-2 or 0-2-4-3
No GK + 1/2 defs + mid and attack of Spa/Ger.

GK and defenders will get 1-3 pts (assuming no assist and goal) so ignore them and get full Spa mid+attack (or pick full Spa plus 1-2 Ger). Remember that players like Williams will have a cameo so you can field 3 Spa strikers.

    4. Bank on Ger win and many goalz but score like 4:3 etc - field 0-2-4-3 or 0-2-5-2
No GK + 2 Def + mid and attack of Ger/Spa.

Same with the back but you can get 2 defs and get full Ger mid+attack (or pick full Ger plus 1-2 Spa). Remember that some players will have a cameo.

    5. Bank on low scoring win like 1:0 - 1-4-2-1 or 0-4-3-1

CS so pick GK and 4 defs (you can gamble on some defender cameo so you can get even more out of that CS) and this tactic is not easy as you must pick who will score/assist. Pick just 2-3 heavy hitters and hope you will get lucky. There is no chance that you will get them all. Obviously there is more difficult with Spain team (you can easly pick full Ger defence and 4 Ger attack with main heavy hitters) but there is a way to pick full Spa defence + Asensio + Niguez + Spa Striker.

    6. Bank on score like 2:1, 3:1 - 0-2-4-3

Again no GK as I think that there is a way to go in this fantasy especially with that budget and obviously if U predict no CS. Pick 1 defender that you fell that is most attacking and (but not nesesary) has more chance for winning points and one for 7.0. Use budget for attacking players as they will score points and forget about defence because there is no chance to filed decent XI with all important players who can score points. Pick more players from a team that U feel will win but get 1-2 form the other team too as both teams will score in that scenario. Here i picked 3 most expensive 3 strikers but you can also get one cheaper on in place of Selke/Deulofeu and use that money to get another defender to filed 10 players.

        🙂
I post here about your Fantasy site by the way. I found Piłkarzyki but it was in Polish so it was fine for me but as I'm here while playing Fantasy Premier League I knew that few people are looking for Fantasy U21 game. When I saw Eng version I ask for a hot topic on this site for all managers here.
I'm glad than so many joined it.

        Pozdrawiam 😉

I can only add sth what I wrote above:

Example 1 - Spanish Clean Sheet and Good Captain Pick (one of 4 defenders or e.g. Asensio/Delofeu/Saul; good result when 1:0, 2:0, maybe even 3:0):

Kepa (XI) - Bellerin (XI), Mere (XI), Vallejo (XI), Castro (XI) - Asensio (XI), Llorente (XI), Haberer (XI), Dahoud (Sub) - Williams (Sub 'for 100%'), Platte (Sub 'for 100%' after goal)

You have 8 Spanish, almost everyone will perform for 100%, one weak point, but still possible - Dahoud.

Example 2: German Clean Sheet and Good Captain Pick (one of 4 defenders or e.g. Gnabry/Meyer/Selke + Haberer or Second Striker; good result when 1:0, 2:0, maybe even 3:0):

Pollersbeck (XI) - Toljan (XI), Gerhardt (XI), Kempf (XI), Jung (XI, if not - some other DEF is cheaper) - Gnabry (XI), Haberer (XI), Suarez (Sub), Oyarzabal (Weak Sub but possible) - Selke (XI), Phillip (XI, if not - other striker is cheaper).

You have 9 from Germany, almost everyone will perform for 100%, one weak point, but still possible: Oyarzabal.

      Impossible is nothing.
