Introducing – Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football as our brand new partner game for the 2017/18 season.

While this may be a new game to many of you, Yahoo is, of course, a hugely well-known and trusted name. They were also one of the first to pioneer an online Fantasy Football game, with their season-long game one of the most engaging around.

Now Yahoo have returned with a daily Fantasy sports offering that we will be covering throughout the season.

That also means we will be able to present you with some fantastic offers, including a huge free-to-play half-season tournament with over £40,000 in prizes and perhaps even the chance to win £1 million. No, really. More on that later this week.

Yahoo are also providing a superb introductory offer for our visitors whereby, if you deposit £5, you’ll get a free £50 credited to your account. See the foot of this article for details on how to sign up and get started.

What is Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football?

If you’ve played any daily Fantasy Football or “DFS” games before, you will be instantly familiar with the concept of the Yahoo game.

You have £200 million to build a team of 11 players that you can enter in a variety of contests that are either free to play or have an entry fee with cash prizes on offer.

Each player has a value assigned which changes week-to-week based on their performance and popularity in the previous Gameweek.

The scoring system is more detailed than both Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports – but that’s a good thing. Based on Opta data, the scoring brings a wider range of players into the mix, including those often-neglected defensive midfielders.

We will have an in-depth article, examining the nuances of the scoring system, very soon.

Yahoo’s contests allow you to tinker with your line-ups right up until kick-off, so you can monitor teamsheets and use the “late swap” feature to swoop for bargains and remove absent players.

Week to week, we will be bringing you our Yahoo Focus articles to help steer the nucleus of your XI for the weekend contests.

Why Should I play?

While so much of the Yahoo game is familiar and easy to grasp, it’s very different in a number of key ways – not least because it is very friendly for new players.

The game operates a “Fair Play” policy, with many of their contests allowing just a single-team entry, while others allow only up to ten teams per user. This levels the playing field and increases the chances that new players can compete for prizes.

There are also “no veterans” or “rookie only” contests which allow you to play and learn the game before taking on experienced managers in bigger contests. However, if you become a seasoned player, you can, of course, take part in contests that allow 50+ teams.

As mentioned, the scoring system is also finely balanced and perfectly suited to our visitors.

We are all familiar with Opta data and, if you’ve got yourself a Fantasy Football scout membership, you already have access to statistics and tools to help you select teams in the Yahoo game. We’re even building custom tables and will be implementing player prices into those tables in the coming weeks.

The Yahoo game is also fully localised for a UK audience. That may sound like a small thing but, with other daily games talking in dollars and asking you to build “rosters”, it’s nonetheless a welcome touch.

The other main reason to play is that the game has a huge range of contests for all players. There are free-to-play games, contests with entry fees as small as 25p right up to £1,000 for the high rollers.

You can register now and compete in the Gameweek 1 £10k contest that offers a £2k top prize for a £5 entry fee.

How Do I Start?

Yahoo’s Gameweek 1 contests are up and running so you can register an account and get started immediately.

As mentioned, if you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used in-game.

  • Register here
  • Deposit £5 or more and use the code FANTASY50 to claim your £50 credit
  • Choose a contest and start selecting your first Yahoo squad.

Later this week we will bring you news of the huge Fantasy Football Scout Yahoo Cup contest, which is free to play and with £50k in prizes.

Look out for details of that and further articles on the Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football game to come before August 11.

You must be over 18 years of age, resident in the UK, and of legal capacity to register with Yahoo Daily Sports and open an Account. If you sign up, please always play responsibly.

Probably because he's only 6m.... If he was 6.5m, no one would have him, as Valencia and Walker should be better options... Maybe... But he's got some attacking threat... Don't see Arsenal with many cleanies though...

Didn't Chelsea loose every pre season game one year then win like 5 or 6 games staright when the PL started.

Not sure Saints result with so many subs and not first choice def tells us much.

4 years of an average of 14 cs per season no matter the personnel and great fixtures mean they are great picks early on to me at least.

Not really too bothered as I'd mostly play 3-5-2 but if he plays I would roll the dice. He's a decent enabler at £5m

                • 10 Years
                6 years, 10 months ago

Ok. Just that as an enabler, he's 1m more expensive than the cheapest defenders, and I personally like my bench fodder to have one quality, that they start, particularly if I'm paying any extra from the cheapest possible.

Obviously it's also true that good start worthy defenders are cheaper than good start worthy forwards. But then your defence line is awful, and your whole bench are non-starters, so when Firmino, Sterling and Pied start to suffer rotation you're probably just 1-3 men short of having an actual lineup. That is a concern to me.

Southampton were beaten 4-0 by German side FC Augsburg tonight in their penultimate match of pre-season.
Saints returned to St Mary’s for the first time since the end of the last campaign, but it did not prove to be a happy homecoming for them.

A superb first-half double from Michael Gregoritsch set Augsburg on the way to victory, with Ja-Cheol Koo’s second-half header and a late strike from Raphael Framberger sealing the win.

Mauricio Pellegrino made six changes to the side that started the 3-0 friendly win over Saint-Étienne last Saturday, with Fraser Forster, Maya Yoshida, Jérémy Pied, Oriol Romeu and Charlie Austin the ones who retained starting spots.

Joining them in the line-up were Jan Bednarek, for his first game at St Mary’s, as well as Matt Targett, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, James Ward-Prowse, Shane Long and Nathan Redmond.

It was Long and Ward-Prowse who nearly combined for the opener after five minutes, as the former delivered a low cross that perfectly picked out his midfield teammate, but Augsburg keeper Marwin Hitz made an excellent save from his first-time shot.

Hitz produced an even more spectacular stop seconds later, as the ball fell to Long to fire in a fierce, angled strike, but the Augsburg stopper was able to tip the ball onto the post at full stretch.

While the early signs had pointed towards Saints dominance, it was the visitors who soon began to take the upper hand.

Forster’s goal came under threat on a good couple of occasions, with the keeper producing a good stop with his feet from Jonathan Schmid’s low strike in the 28th minute, before Alfred Finnbogason fired inches wide shortly after.

Augsburg’s pressure eventually told in the 35th minute, and there was nothing Forster could do about it, as Gregoritsch launched a 30-yard piledriver that rocketed past the outstretched Saints keeper and into the top corner.

Gregoritsch then doubled his team’s advantage four minutes later, as he met Schmid’s in-swinging cross from the left to plant a firm, low header past Forster.

Redmond came close to halving the deficit a minute before half-time, but his sweetly-struck shot from 25 yards hit the bar and went over, after beating Hitz.

Pellegrino, who was experiencing his first game at St Mary’s, made three changes at the interval, as Jack Stephens, Sam McQueen and Jordy Clasie came on for Yoshida, Redmond and Romeu.

Ward-Prowse tested Hitz shortly after the restart with a low shot from outside the area, but the visiting keeper was equal to the midfielder’s drive.

A further two changes would come in the 64th minute, as Long and Austin were withdrawn for Dušan Tadić and Manolo Gabbiadini.

Before they had much chance to make an impact, though, it was 3-0 to the visitors, as Koo rose highest to head home substitute Erik Thommy’s free-kick.

Sofiane Boufal and Ryan Bertrand were then introduced, in place of Ward-Prowse and Targett, but still it couldn’t affect the flow of the game.

Augsburg added a fourth with less than ten minutes remaining, as Framberger drove forward into the area and planted a low shot into the far bottom corner to seal the German side's victory.

If you have Heaton play him- and sell Foster

I thought about that but Chelsea away is difficult. Who is a better pick for Foster at 4.5?

Chelsea away could be lots of save points while Bournemouth probably score.

Yeah Foster or Heaton to Elliot for me.

May as well get Kolasinac over the Ox, though I could understand getting both if Wenger had told you Ox was nailed.

Already have holding in def for Arsenal, not sure I want to double up. Not sure about the Ox, was thinking about swapping for N. Redmond. Thoughts?

Try to get De Gea in. Utd have a good set of 5-6 games, and then you don't have to worry about rotating keepers.

Almost identical to mine but I have Daniels and Kolasinac instead of Bertie and Danilo. Danilo is an interesting pick but don't really like the idea of starting with two players (Willian) who will need transferring after a couple of weeks.

    Sorry more 4.5 defender stuff.....

    1. Is Martina likely first choice RB until Coleman returns?

Hello everyone, I finally got around to making my first draft team that looks reasonable to me. So it is time to get your views on areas that I need to focus/improve on!

    Foster (Fabianski)
    Trippier Valencia Daniels Cedric (Mee)
    Salah Eriksen Mkhi Redmond (4.5
    Kaku Laca (4.5)

Views would be greatly appreciated! I assume it is going to keep changing a LOT till GW deadline 🙂

Only that he's still quite young and has only played the Polish league which I've understood (from the locals) is tactically sub-standard, so might take some time to settle. I'd bet Saints will start with Yoshida-Stephens if VVD is not replaced with a new player.

      Yup.

But if you're talking about Saints, there's also the concern about the central defence being Championship level if VVD leaves, and Forster continuing to be awful. Doesn't promise much for clean sheets, unless they decide to go very defensively. But that's unlikely when they play against weaker teams. That could turn out not to be exactly a CS machine.

He still is a tranfer waiting to happen. Spurs were not forthcoming with Rose info that is all. Better to make rational decisions then base them on a whim or distrust or info fro. Spurs

Does Man Utd's 3-5-2 formation bring Blind into the equation? He's a bonus points machine if he plays.
