Scout Notes

International Scout Notes – Saturday

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata maintains his impressive form with a goal for Spain as he continues to promote his Fantasy CV.

Here are the notes from Saturday’s international fixtures.

Morata the merrier

Alvaro Morata needed just 18 minutes to confirm his continued fine early-season form as Spain completed a convincing 3-0 win over fellow European football royalty Italy.

The Chelsea striker had to make do with a place on the bench as coach Julen Lopetegui opted to play with no recognised forwards at all, preferring instead to use Man City midfielder David Silva as a ‘false nine’.

But when Morata finally made it onto the pitch, he made an immediate impact, scoring Spain’s third goal a mere five minutes after replacing Andres Iniesta.

The strike means that he now has three goals and two assists from four matches this season, explaining why only Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is ahead of him in the Fantasy Premier League forwards standings.

It was widely anticipated that Morata would take time to adjust to his new surrounds at Chelsea; a theory that clearly played a part in deciding a modest 12.5% ownership.

Chelsea’s tough opening schedule also dampened early enthusiasm – the Blues have already played Spurs and Everton and still have to face Arsenal and Man City, albeit both at home, before Gameweek 7 is done.

But after their shock opening day defeat to Burnley, Antonio Conte’s side are starting to look every inch the defending champions, and Morata has clearly settled into his new role as their spearhead.

His goal and assist returns in both home matches to this point have sparked massive interest. More than 196,000 FPL managers have drafted in the Spaniard and, with 40,000+ making the direct trade, Morata has proved the most popular Harry Kane replacement ahead of Gameweek 4.

Of the strikers with two or more goals this season, only Romelu Lukaku can better his attempts (9), his minutes per chance average (20.9) and penalty box touches (15), while he and Firmino are the only strikers with two assists.

With Eden Hazard closing in on full fitness, Chelsea’s attacking threat – and supply line for Morata – is surely only going to improve, even if the Belgian is likely to regain penalty duties.

And based on current form, the forthcoming visit from Arsenal is not the test of old, which makes the Blues’ short-term schedule more palatable – (lei ARS sto MCI cry WAT bou), Man City notwithstanding.

Should he be given the chance to make hay in Spain’s Tuesday night trip to Liechtenstein, Morata will return to domestic duty for Gameweek 4 with form on his side, Hazard potentially supplying chances and with the fixtures more favourable than anticipated.

Elsewhere…

On a quiet night for Premier League players, Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn’s superb winner for Wales against Austria demonstrated the wealth of attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp.

Elsewhere in that encounter, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey shook off doubts surrounding his fitness to play 90 minutes.

Returning to Liverpool, Sadio Mane played the full 90 minutes as Senegal were held to a goalless home draw with Burkina Faso. They will now play the reverse fixture – a vital clash for the Senegalese – on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Man United centre-half Eric Bailly supplied an assist in Ivory Coast’s 3-0 win in Gabon. Spurs’ Serge Aurier completed 90 minutes for the visitors.

Brighton defender Shane Duffy gave the Republic of Ireland the lead in Georgia, only for Martin O’Neill’s men to have to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Newcastle United’s suspended striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored for the third match running in all competitions as Serbia beat Moldova 3-0, with Man United’s Nemanja Matic playing 77 minutes for the hosts.

Finally, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson managed a second consecutive full 90 minutes of the season, but couldn’t stop Iceland slumping to a 1-0 defeat in Finland.

For all people WCing this GW, are you planning to get in Sanchez?

I was considering it earlier and made a post about it.

However, I just feel like there are too many doubts surrounding the club and himself to make him a factor at the moment

Sanchez is a pro and it would not matter whats going on he would give always his best on the pitch.
On the other hand Arsenal are shaky atm and one man cant win the game, but Sanchez will give his best imo.

Not until I see how the land lies with Arsenal.

May select a cheaper Gunners option for this little run they've got though. They're very good at home, generally, so I'd expect someone like Kolasinac to be a decent bet.

If I was on my wc I would possibly pick him up or lacazette and captain him with the plan to swap him out at the end of the week for 1 of the heavy hitters . There's not manny good match ups this week

I think laca is a better shout.. He is a 9 and much cheaper and Wenger cant afford to put him on the bench no more.. If ozil steps up, and sanchez performs up to standard, laca will be fed with goals.. B4 the season started I thought these 3 would be a devastating trio... Arsenal fans should pray for a return to a 4-2-3-1 as it clearly brings out the best in ozil..

I agree that there is a lot of confusion related to Arsenal right now and in most scenarios, it would be wise to look away from any of their asset. However, the only challenge that I see for people on WC is that when he fires (and he will sooner or later), they won't be able to get him in without some major points hits. So would be it wiser to get him in now and easily downgrade if he blanks?

I'm going for Lacazette. Will be on penalties, cheaper, no questions about his commitment, those fixtures are too good to pass.

Mounie would be my 20th choice of third striker. I think you can do better. Too much spent in midfield IMO. There is value in defence and up front this season. I'd also look at getting Alonso in.

I find Salah, Mhiki, Hazard, Jones to be a few too many question marks for a WC. Why not make the most of Spurs fixtures and get Eriksen and monitor hazard, and use the excess to get Mane instead of Salah. All easy to correct with FT and leaves you enough for Kane to Lukaku in GW5 should it take your fancy

I wouldnt rush hazard in.. And I would pick Kane over Kaku on a wc... Probably downgrade hazard and upg mounie to lacazette/morata as well.. Laca will be very valueable next round (prolly the best captain option) and when the CL/EL begins since Wenger will prioritise the BPL much higher than EL, unlike the teams that play CL.

    Any drone enthusiasts here?

I got a Mavic Pro a while back and i must say it has not failed to impress.
It is the most fun bit of tech i have ever put my hands on and is great fun although i have had a run in with a local garda about it most people are cool with it and are fascinated with it like myself.

Couldnt afford a mavic, have a hubsan x4 h501s for the past year - very satisfied with it. The drone is a lot of fun, too good to be true in a way - may upgrade to a Parrot next summer.

That Parrot looks like a serious bit of kit.

This new bread of drones are game changers the best thing about them is that they are so light that they avoid some of the laws around drones and government are too slow to keep up with the technology.

I hope government let drone tech to grow without stiffing it, i think the benefits far outweigh any bad that will come with the tech.

Life guards are deploying them to fly out life vests to swimmers in difficultly.
The fire brigade are using them as a eye in the sky to combat gorse fires and that.
Farmers are using them to check on the herd and even to herd sheep.
Parcel company's are going to use them for delivery's

I myself have used them to check on roofs that might need repair in hard to reach places for my work.

Really the possibility are only limited by your imagination they are a great tool to have in the bag.

They would be horrible transfers. Eriksen is in good form and has great fixtures coming up, Chico too. Hazard and esp Bony are somewhat unknown at this stage and might struggle for minutes.

Suggestion for me could be to do Kaku to lacazette now (laca is prollu the best captain option along sanchez) since you missed thr morata price change and do chicha to firminho next or upgrade mid if chicha performs well.. Armband rotation between kane/laca looks solid for a lot of incoming gw

I know Arsenal form is bad atm but they have very favourable fixtures I cant see them not improving... Besides Wenger wpnt prioritise EL like the other teams will prioritise CL, which could make arsenal players become even more valuable when CL begins

    Have WC activated.

    DDG (Elliot)
    Bertrand, Davies, Cedric (Naughton, Mbemba)
    Mooy, Erikssen, Pogba, Willian (Carroll)
    Kane, Lukaku, Chicharito

    0.1m in the bank.

    Key concerns:
    - Sanchez and Hazard to come back into the fray
    - Davies to be dropped for Rose?
    - No Arsenal, Liverpool or city.

Though I can rectify most of these by:

Kane, Erikssen, Mooy, Willian, Chicharito out

Morata, Alli, Xhaka, David Silva, Firminho in

I would make another option called D... Dont really like any of the teams to be honest. But we have different approaches I suppose.. DDG is too expensive.. (And so is Alonso for my taste given upcoming fixtures). Dont like Kompany either.. My advice: Take option A... Downgrade DDG to foster - switch daniels with Jones for united cover - Downgrade sanchez to Mane/Salah - swap Jesus with Lacazette (arsenal cover and great captain option gw4 and 6 - armband rotation with Kane). Wether or not to keep Alonso I really dont know.. Personally i would downgrade him to Cedric for sou cover in defence and upgrade atsu to the best possible option (have not done the math)....

agree with most you said here but not Lacazette no way match fitness is shocking heatmap shows he is way off where he suppose to be,working rate is low rotation risk. arsenal looking like they could get beaten by a 3 liga team.....terrible.and imo you dont need a so called cover of a team... if a team doesnt look good no cover needed but that is just me , happy days

But downgrade mkhy or pogba to Silva maybe? Surely at some points UTDs 'easy' run will end and its good to have some city cover is possible

    GK: De Gea
    Defence: Stephens, Dawson, Davies
    Midfield: KDB, Willian, Atsu, Salah
    Forwards: Gabb, Kaku, Kane

    Bench: Elliot, Carroll, Mee, Long

    2 FTs

    A) Gabb and Willian out for Pogba and Abraham
    B) Kdb, De Gea and Willian out for Fabianski, Alli and Pogba for a -4.

    Thanks

Im not a fan of taking hits.. But B.. Maybe start with Kdb and DDG to Fabianski and Alli and do willian to pogba next week.. I think willian will stsrt next gw and if Pedro drops to the bench, he is greeeeeat value. If not you can get pogba or miki in.. (Miki preferable imo)

Creating an app is not something you just do... Its expensive as f***, complicated and takes a pretty long time as well.. I think the website works fine.. You only seem to have minor problems (I have none tbh) so not sure its worth it.. Unless your willing to help fund it through increased membership prices/ or paying to download the app

Is there a possibility that the price change algorithm might accelerate as the season progresses? It would make sense as with dead teams there has always been a problem with price changes becoming very slow later in the season. Maybe FPL Towers has fixed this?

    Davies - Hegazi - Jones - Duffy - Mbemba-

Mkhitaryan - Eriksen - David Silva - Tadic - Cork

If on a WC I might consider Foster (or someone like Fabianski). I wouldn't do anything with FTs/hits though - I'd keep. Dawson, Evans and Foster look like the only nailed ones from their D line.

Anyone with me in thinking Kane might not be worth it? I honestly don't think I've seen a Kane team that I thought was better than a more balanced team I could create without him.

I think he'll be in the top 3 scorers BUT his output compared to last year will be worse and he hinders the rest of the team too much for me.

The main point obviously is captaincy but other players are firing atm.

Brave, stupid or both? Oh and btw I'm not one of those weird Kane haters. I was one of the few that knew he was quality from his breakout season while some were talking about potential second season syndrome.

TLDR: what's the best Kane team you've seen?

I've been happy not to own in the first 3 GWs, but the man is gonna explode soon. 😉 Nailed in my WC team. Spurs have a great run of fixtures too, wouldn't advise not getting him.

          1. @persecuted_by_mods
              6 years, 8 months ago

I agree he will explode but my current team is doing well enough which is my issue, I can't justify tearing it up for him right now.

For me it's still a wait and see, will other players keep firing, will Kane be as good as last year(I think not)

              But i don't doubt he'll explode

I think Spurs have to somehow make Wembley a place for opponents to feel terrified, not a place they enjoy visiting and enjoy playing there. For that reason alone I think you may have a point this season.

Yeah exactly so many other factors too, one being Rose injured and losing Walker. I think people are forgetting how good they were and how vital their pace was because trippier and bavies have been just about good enough

I started without Kane because I didn't really think I'll C him in the opening 2 and I wanted to see if he'll start slow again. After 2GWs that didn't look like a slow start to me - just unlucky, so got him (and captained for GW3). I'm slightly disappointed, but I think it was the right decision. I'm keeping and I'm pretty confident in him delivering some serious returns in the next 5 - gonna captain the s**t out of him.

That's coz he hasn't delivered the goods. After he starts rolling (which I think will be very very soon) only a team without him will not scare you. The numbers are there. I think its more the case of having the right expensive and potentially explosive players at the right time... I decided to go with Kaku and without kane for the first 4 gw.. And im going to go with Kane and without Kaku for the next run of games simply because of fixtures and captaincy options.. Imo having both is way to expensive and will affect your overall team, especially considering they dont armband rotate well at all.

Hagazi not guaranteed starts and neither is Richalison.

Need the spend to be a little more balanced. One of Lukaku /kane/could be sacrificed for better balance.

Why is it people think Hegazi is not a guaranteed starter? Brom have been doing well with him at the back. Is it because of Dawson returning?

Brom's back four is mystifying me a bit with Evans in the mix too.

                                Dawson isn't getting dropped
                                Nyom been playing well
Evans Mcauley back now. He may ride it out but I can't see Evans being dropped at all ( they would have cashed in) and Mcauley was huge for them at both ends last season. He hasn't signed a year extension to sit on bench?

High risk , get .2 more and go Dawson maybe?

I'm on WC, and finding it pretty hard to decide on a keeper.

Started with Gomes and he's served me well, 2CS from 3 with injuries (and even an early red card) hitting Watford. Really rate Silva highly so tempted to keep.

Then there's Foster ... WBA look solid and they've had a great transfer window bringing in the likes of Evans, Hegazi, Barry and Krychowiak.

Fabianski another good option ... Though I'll probably have Naughton so I'll use this as an excuse to rule him out 😛

Pickford at £5.0m with Everton's long run of great fixtures looks solid too.

                          Hmmmmm.

Foster for me, echoing what you've said about Brom.

Save yourself .5 have Elliott and a non playing 4.0?

Bit of a gamble but saves funds.

Another option for sure ... Just think there's some nice value in the 4.5m options and don't like Newcastle too much defensively especially with all their injuries. One to think about though, thanks.

Kane will get goals butI think Morata may match him, so I've gone that route, with a view to going back in a few weeks if/when Kane starts properly firing

Get both :), I haven't done it myself yet but I really like the money thats freed up from going firmino, morata and Kane. Obviously kakus ownership could be cause for concern, but I think pogba and mkhit are cheap enough to double up on as some form of utd attacking cover.

Silva a rotation risk, Carroll could be benched by Sanches.

                          More tinkering on WC.

                          Foster
Hegazi / Yoshida / Jones / Alonso (Mbemba)
                          Salah / Mkhi / Alli / Brady (R.Sanches)
                          Morata / Kane (Abraham)

Hoping Abraham and R.Sanches pick up some form and turn out to be good cheapie investments; only way I can have Kane + Morata!
