Scout Notes

International Scout Notes – Saturday

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata maintains his impressive form with a goal for Spain as he continues to promote his Fantasy CV.

Here are the notes from Saturday’s international fixtures.

Morata the merrier

Alvaro Morata needed just 18 minutes to confirm his continued fine early-season form as Spain completed a convincing 3-0 win over fellow European football royalty Italy.

The Chelsea striker had to make do with a place on the bench as coach Julen Lopetegui opted to play with no recognised forwards at all, preferring instead to use Man City midfielder David Silva as a ‘false nine’.

But when Morata finally made it onto the pitch, he made an immediate impact, scoring Spain’s third goal a mere five minutes after replacing Andres Iniesta.

The strike means that he now has three goals and two assists from four matches this season, explaining why only Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is ahead of him in the Fantasy Premier League forwards standings.

It was widely anticipated that Morata would take time to adjust to his new surrounds at Chelsea; a theory that clearly played a part in deciding a modest 12.5% ownership.

Chelsea’s tough opening schedule also dampened early enthusiasm – the Blues have already played Spurs and Everton and still have to face Arsenal and Man City, albeit both at home, before Gameweek 7 is done.

But after their shock opening day defeat to Burnley, Antonio Conte’s side are starting to look every inch the defending champions, and Morata has clearly settled into his new role as their spearhead.

His goal and assist returns in both home matches to this point have sparked massive interest. More than 196,000 FPL managers have drafted in the Spaniard and, with 40,000+ making the direct trade, Morata has proved the most popular Harry Kane replacement ahead of Gameweek 4.

Of the strikers with two or more goals this season, only Romelu Lukaku can better his attempts (9), his minutes per chance average (20.9) and penalty box touches (15), while he and Firmino are the only strikers with two assists.

With Eden Hazard closing in on full fitness, Chelsea’s attacking threat – and supply line for Morata – is surely only going to improve, even if the Belgian is likely to regain penalty duties.

And based on current form, the forthcoming visit from Arsenal is not the test of old, which makes the Blues’ short-term schedule more palatable – (lei ARS sto MCI cry WAT bou), Man City notwithstanding.

Should he be given the chance to make hay in Spain’s Tuesday night trip to Liechtenstein, Morata will return to domestic duty for Gameweek 4 with form on his side, Hazard potentially supplying chances and with the fixtures more favourable than anticipated.

Elsewhere…

On a quiet night for Premier League players, Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn’s superb winner for Wales against Austria demonstrated the wealth of attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp.

Elsewhere in that encounter, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey shook off doubts surrounding his fitness to play 90 minutes.

Returning to Liverpool, Sadio Mane played the full 90 minutes as Senegal were held to a goalless home draw with Burkina Faso. They will now play the reverse fixture – a vital clash for the Senegalese – on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Man United centre-half Eric Bailly supplied an assist in Ivory Coast’s 3-0 win in Gabon. Spurs’ Serge Aurier completed 90 minutes for the visitors.

Brighton defender Shane Duffy gave the Republic of Ireland the lead in Georgia, only for Martin O’Neill’s men to have to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Newcastle United’s suspended striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored for the third match running in all competitions as Serbia beat Moldova 3-0, with Man United’s Nemanja Matic playing 77 minutes for the hosts.

Finally, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson managed a second consecutive full 90 minutes of the season, but couldn’t stop Iceland slumping to a 1-0 defeat in Finland.

    Hegazi nailed on?
Need to sort out my defense and not just make a bandwagon move. Just seeing if any of west brom's transfers or players getting healthy would affect his game time.

    thanks

Evans is back fit and they've signed Gibbs. The make up of the back four could easily change. I wouldn't be buying him now.

Too late if you're thinking of buying him . I got him for 4.5 and will keep him until he's dropped then make 0.2 profit.

based on what?. eriksen has more goals and assists in last 2 seasons and is more consistent.

coutinho scores a screamer once in a while and then goes missing for a period

I think Cou has a slight edge over Eriksen. But in playing style they are not comparable.. Dribble wise, Cou is a lot better.. But Eriksen makes fewer mistakes and is better at crossing.. Its a tough call.. Who is the better option depends on who else is on the team sheet..

Ignoring FPL, Coutinho is definitely the better player. He's absolutely electric at his best, was arguably the best player in the league early last season before his injury.

Thinking of WC to get this team

    Forster
    Jones,Yoshida,Hegazi,Alonso
    Mkhitarayan,Salah,Eriksen
    Firmino,Morata,Lukaku

    Subs - Elliott,RLC,Mbemba,Collback

Forget the subs, starting team okay or is Kane essential?

        Thinking of taking a hit.

        Main concerns;

        PvA, Willian, Fraser.

        1. Should I try and maximize points? Willian to Antonio
        2. Should I try to sort of my team? Fraser to Brady

Leaning towards 1. atm...not sure Brady is worth the hit and I don't expect Fraser to drop again given his ownership.

        The confusion.
Will Antonio be able to make up part of the hit+Willian points this GW(long term he will I'm sure)?

        Help appreciated, thanks.

        Team advice (not on WC)

        Foster, Myhill
        PVA, Cedric, Yoshida, Mee, Dunk
        Hazard, Mane, Alli, Pogba,Carrol
        Lukaku, Chicha, Vokes

Repost from early morning, thoughts on this WC team:
        Elliot/Krul
        Alonso/Davies/Jones/Naughton/4.0
        Pogba/Miki/Mane/Alli/4.5
        Kane/Firmino/Abraham

2 x4.0 GKs and no City,Arsenal,Chelsea attack cover can bite me hard?

I would get at least an arsenal cover for their favourable fixtures

Anyone know how nailed on David Silva is to start/get 90 mins? Seems the only sensible City option atm

              http://torresmagic.webs.com/lmsupdate.htm

Removing teams is the biggest obstacle in LMS.
GW4 league start and hits are easily worked out by computer.
Will probably scale it down in future for less workload(maybe 2000 teams max)

Anyone looking at WC defences & rotations? I think a Swansea, Burnley, Bournemouth, West Brom give a very nice 6-7 week coverage, you have at least 2 very strong home fixtures every week... allows the 5th defender to be either a Man Utd, Spurs or Southampton def to play every week. Fraser Forster in GK ensures the essential Southampton representation also. Or if you wanted to go with Krul in GK along with Elliott it frees up even more £

e.g. Mee, Naughton, Aké, Hegazi - very cheap & gives fixtures below:

        GW4 - PAL, NEW
        GW5 - BHA, WHM
        GW6 - HUD, WAT
        GW7 - WAT, LEI
        GW8 - WHM, HUD
        GW9 - LEI, sto
        GW10 - not so good

Already taken a -4 to do KDB & JWP to Eriksen & Jese prior to their drops.

        Currently got a squad of:

        Foster, Fabianski
        Cedric, Danilo, Trippier, Mee, Hunemeier
        Eriksen, Pogba, Jese, Mooy, Carroll
        Kane, Lukaku, Firmino

Given doubts over Trippier, Danilo, Mooy...and the fact Hunemeier isn't even playing, I'm strongly tempted to wildcard to:

        Elliott, Krul
        Alonso, Jones, Cedric, Naughton, Mee
        Eriksen, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Chalobah, RLC/Carroll
        Kane, Morata, Firmino

Reckon it's worth pulling the trigger, and if so which is more nailed - Naughton & Elliott or Fabianski & Mbemba?

Any suggestions are very much appreciated!

Any chance of WBA resorting to a 5 man defence considering the options they have now ?

Yes very much so - I could see them going Hegazi, Evans, McAuley/Dawson, with Gibbs LWB & Nyom/Dawson/Phillips RWB.

It wouldn't be good for Phillips owners, but for Gibbs could be good.

Then again, Pulis knows his system & prioritises being very well drilled so he ma not want to change things around.

If he went with a back 4 I'd say it will be Gibbs-Evans-Hegazi-Dawson, with McAuley & Nyom on standby for injuries/loss of form
