The Gameweek 5 Team News

Jose Mourinho is set to be without the injured Paul Pogba when Manchester United face Everton. Sadio Mane is suspended for Liverpool’s home meeting with Burnley, while Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton is set for a long spell on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury.

Paul Pogba suffered a hamstring injury in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over FC Basel, and will miss the visit of Everton to Old Trafford on Sunday. The France international is set to be sidelined for at least a month, with Marouane Fellaini pushing for a start in his absence after scoring in the midweek win over Basel. Mourinho’s press conference later this afternoon will off the full prognosis.

Liverpool will be without the suspended Sadio Mane for the home encounter against Burnley. Jurgen Klopp could turn to Philippe Coutinho, on the left of the front three, with the Senegal international set to miss the next two Gameweeks.

Tom Heaton will be missing at Anfield. He has undergone surgery on the dislocated shoulder he suffered last Sunday and is set to be ruled out for a couple of months. Nick Pope will take over in goal for the trip to Anfield.

Ryan Fraser is expected to recover from an ankle injury to be fit for tonight’s home clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Meanwhile, Bruno (back problem) has been given the all clear and is fit for tonight’s encounter.

Mauricio Pellegrino will decide today whether Virgil van Dijk will be involved in Southampton’s trip to Crystal Palace after the defender played 90 minutes for the U23s on Monday. We await news from Roy Hodgson and the Eagles camp later today.

Steve Mounie is a doubt for Huddersfield Town’s home meeting with Leicester City due to a knock, but is expected to return to training today.

As for the Foxes, they have major doubts over both Matty James (hamstring) and Christian Fuchs (eye problem), but Craig Shakespeare has revealed that Kelechi Iheanacho and Vicente Iborra are available.

Geoff Cameron will miss the trip to Newcastle after suffering a hamstring injury, while Ryan Shawcross remains doubtful due to a back problem.

Marco Silva will be without Younes Kaboul (leg), Sebastian Prodl (hamstring) and Craig Cathcart (knee) for the home meeting with Manchester City, but both Roberto Pereyra and Kiko Femenia are available.

Oliver Burke (hamstring), Nacer Chadli (knock) and James McClean (illness) are doubts for West Bromwich Albion’s home encounter with West Ham United. Gareth McAuley was handed a run-out for the reserves earlier this week but Pulis conceded he will “have to wait and see” whether the Irishman is fit enough to face the Hammers.

Marko Arnautovic is available to take on the Baggies after completing his three-match ban, but Mark Noble (knee) has been ruled out.

Finally, Wilfried Bony is set to remain on the bench for Swansea City’s trip to Wembley as he continues to build up his match fitness.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s 7pm deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Burnley conceded about 97 chances to Palace at Turf Moor. This is the Palace side that haven't scored all season and never really did until last GW.

-4 today pre-deadline (Pogba/Sterling to Groß and Ritchie)
-4 tonight post-deadline (Chicha/Naughton to Jesus and Kolasinac)

Joining the 4-3-3 revolution. Next week I'll be looking at:

    Foster/Elliott
    Alonso Jones Davies Kolasinac
    Eriksen Ritchie Groß
    Jesus Kane Lukaku

Convinced Ritchie and Groß will get some points over the coming weeks too.

27 points last week. Wildcard already blown. Mané and Pogba out. And no Kane...

But! I'm quite relaxed about it 🙂 I definitely think I've learnt to treat FPL as a game. Yes, I still spend a ridiculous amount of time analysing stats, watching games and researching my next transfer, but this season, I'm not getting worked up when my beautifully crafted team all comes crashing down around me.

So in a season of few victories, I have made a small one there.

    Onwards and upwards! Morata(c) 😉

Yep, I just can't get him in without losing Sanchez. I'd be willing to do that of course as I think Sanchez starts on the bench vs Chelsea, but have Mané and Pogba to sort out first!

Tempted by an Alli(c), but hopefully he can nab Kane's goals.

I got 39 points with my wildcard, my original team would've got 75. Got rid of Kane. Rank 3.3m. Still not worried, this game is mostly about luck after all

      1. Twisted Saltergater
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 7 months ago

Yes, a lot is luck, but I know if I'd played less "maverick", I'd be doing a lot better. So it's a balance of having fun with transfers and keeping in-form players.

Actually, I've done all that and I'm still struggling. Patience over aggression seems to be the biggest lesson of this season so far.

this is my attitude towards the game - i spend hours watching , reading, checking stats and prices, planning new strategies and transfers - but this is what i love, if i played sensibly, didn't take hits or punts, i wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much, even if it meant a much higher OR

played my WC last week, and ended up with a -8 this week post Mane-Pogba-gate, and will doubtless take plenty of hits shuffling my team around in future, but it's all fun

Didn't really want to go the Pogba > Mhki, considering I have Lukaku, but looking at the price point and lower, there's no other better option.
Really wanted Man City cover but they are really a nightmare trying to guess the starting 11.
Antonio, Ritchie, etc doesn't feel like a good consistent performer choice.
So went will Mhki. Anyone feel the same?

Mkhi from the start anyway for me. Likely to be playing in the hole again too. Great option don't know why people are doubting him only 1 blank in 4 and that's only because Lukaku didn't score his goal on first attempt .

Is Lejeune likely to start this week or benched after last weeks CS?
and likelihood of trippier starting after Aurier's solid run out midweek?

Hey, I would appreciate the opinion of the community. Is anything worth a hit?

Actually considering Elliot in for Nordfeld, not sure it's worth the -4...

    Fabianski (tot)

Davies (SWA) / Bertrand (cpl) / Daniels (BRI)

Salah (BUR) / Eriksen (SWA) / Mkhitaryan (EVE) / Fraser (BRI)

Kane (SWA, C) / Firmino (BUR, V) / Hernandez (wba)

    Nordfeldt Carroll Mee Mbemba

I have to choose one from: Jesus, Morata, Firmino, Salah. Don't have other players from their teams.
    Considering - price/set pieces/points to this point/nailedness/fixtures - is Firmino the best pick ?

Firmino probably keeps your team better balanced. Otherwise Jesus is up there.

Wow using the comparison tool in the members area Firmino really does come out on top against Vardy doesn't he... stats wise 😉

Haven't renewed my membership for this season but Bardys stats on some of the apps I have are pretty poor. Been lucky he has had a decent conversion rate

Yeah but that game when Firmino gets rested ruins it 😉

Haha! That is the only niggle putting me off Firmino and wanting to go Vardy.

My plan get Firmino on my WC catch the price rise and monitor Vardy closely.

It is a risk no doubt, but I think I am OK with it. I felt with both Kane & Lukaku the rest of the team suffered to much. Kane seems the more explosive, so i have gone with him for now and avoided Lukaku. I am still toying with the idea of bringing him tho and downgrading mid/defense to accomodate. Doubtless whichever way I go I'll regret one way or another 🙂

short-term you can get away with Stones - longer term Maguire.

Is this not RLC kitted up (centre) at Hodgson's first Palace training session?

    https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2017/september/gallery-roys-first-training-session/

I don't see any strapping or anything. Could be available?

Yeah but even though it was funny it's only a game and I think some folks take it far too seriously. I can see these types of guys falling with each other over FL. Apart from the Brighton fan maybe as he looks kinda chilled 🙂
