Dugout Discussion – Tuesday

There’s something special about a Gameweek under lights and, even with just four matches to get things underway, there is excitement and expectation in equal measure.

Tonight’s eight teams boast enough Fantasy talent to deliver significant points – not least Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, who will doubtless be the top two captain picks on show yet again.

The smart money – and the armbands from active Fantasy managers – are likely to be with the Spurs striker, as Kane revisits the ground where he fired an incredible 31 point return in 2016/17.

His owners will gladly accept a more modest tally this time around, though having scored six of his nine goals on the road this season, double-figures could again be within reach.

Less is expected of Lukaku, who will collide with a Watford defence that has kept back-to-back clean sheets. The Belgian’s form remains a concern, with his recent strike against Newcastle his only goal in the last six Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, the big news from The Hawthorns is that Newcastle United’s goalkeeper, Rob Elliot, has been dropped from Rafa Benitez’s line-up. Priced at 4.0 initially this season, Elliot boasts an ownership of 26.4% who must now turn to their reserve option. For the managers who also own Crystal Palace’s Julian Speroni, there is no reserve option, ensuring they look set to be forced to market ahead of Gameweek 15.

Talking of Palace, news from their “local derby” with Brighton finds Christian Benteke in the starting line-up for the visitors, with cut-price midfielder Ruben Loftus Cheek perhaps moving to a No 10 role to accommodate his return.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Early thoughts here?

    DeGea out?
    Kane out?
    5 man mid?

    DeGea
    Alonso / Mustafi / Francis
    Salah / Sane / Sterling / Richalison
    Kane / Morata / Niasse

    Speroni / Loftus-Cheek / Mee / Moreno

Bit of both. United defensive unit not too solid and getting Lossl, Ryan or Pope frees up some funds.

DeGea to Courtois but that makes Hazard off limits.
DeGea to Pope (remember Pope has matched Heaton over the last 8gws. Was unlucky to concede against, could have have been a save. He's currently one point below DeGea but with a game in hand)

I wouldn't lose Kane before Watford. Even after that, I know Spurs' form is worrying but he's still managing to tip along and is currently top scorer of all forwards and hasn't even hit his stride. The arguments there to upgrade the team everywhere by downgrading but it'll cost you alot to get him back in in just 2 moves. Not many other options stick out anyway so I think its best to hold for now

DDG to Cout if fancy double CH def. DDG down i guess if you can use the cash
      Sort Speroni? Dont think needed.

I just got Kane out and i'm regretting it. I mean he's had blanks lately but overall he is still top of the points. Still, might be good to get Hazard in somehow.

I have Sane + Wilson, not convinced I will have either by game week after next.

To me its more about not having any decent options in attack to change things up. Look at last weekends benches for example-

Man U- Scott McTominay, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marouane Fellaini, Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera,Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Man City- Bernardo Silva, Eliaquim Mangala, Danilo ,Ilkay Gündogan, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko ,Claudio Bravo

Chelsea- Willy Caballero, Antonio Rüdiger, Willian , Cesc Fàbregas, Pedro, David Luiz , Victor Moses

Liverpool- Roberto Firmino, Andrew Robertson ,Sadio Mané ,Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum, Loris Karius, Trent Alexander-Arnold

Spurs-Michel Vorm , Serge Aurier , Fernando Llorente, Mousa Dembélé, Juan Foyth, Kyle Walker-Peters, Moussa Sissoko

Not much there for Spurs to shake up attack

Fair enough, although both Alli and Eriksen have been subbed early doors more than once in the last few games.

Kane on the other hand has been playing 90 which before this month was not happening as much if I remember rightly, Poch was hauling him off with 15 ish to go on a fair few occasions.

I think now is the first time we actually can see and feel the difference between Spurs and the others in terms of bench/squad. Spurs not lacking in defensedepartment but offensively they rely too much on those three. I would say Chelsea bordering on problems if/when Hazard/Morata is out, pedro and willian are good players to offload some minutes, but hardly constitutes a title aspirants. United has ahuge squad but several of them i´m noty very convinced by... but all in all better than Spurs. Then again i rate Kane much higher than Lukaku.

To me, City and Liverpool have far the better squad in terms of attacking options, but lacks decent squad in terms of defense?

Sorry to say but Pedro is a Barca player and huge part in ladt years triumph understand. Willian is a top player. Just like fabre last year they cant get a place in team. Hazard is at a elite level doesnt mean they are no less. Pedro is better than sterling tbf

For sure but I wouldnt group Pool defense in the same league as City defense. In fact City are a league above every team this season, I reckon they will go undefeated.

i didnt actually, what i meant was in the sense of squad cover. Delph as the only left back tells me they lack cover... and with Kompany beeing injury proned as it is i would say their cb compartment isn´t what it´s likem in Chelsea who could play 7-8 cb at the same time-)

I personally wouldn't drop Kane, I have both he and Hazard.

But if you're set on transferring Kane out for fundage, Hazard would be the pick I'd go for, and maybe use the rest of that wonga for Chelsea def cover if you can stretch to it.

Hoping Sané gets a yellow card against Southampton. Will justify a -4 which would otherwise only be done with TV and future transfers in mind..

Next 4 moves (for 1 hit)

    Pope Elliot
    Alonso Daniels Kiko Tarkowski Duffy
    Haz Sané Salah Rich RLC
    Kane Morata Niasse

Still undecided about Niasse. Could be Crouch just aswell

Will give me an excuse to get Tarkowski in for Clark, then downgrade Ward the following week to Kiko and getting Alonso in for a hit in the meantine.

Upgrade Ladapo to Niasse for Gw17 then and my team is looking much better. Still a little undecided on Alonso over Christensen so it's a wait and see what happens..

I have him in my draft team. Zaha, RLC & Richarlson are currently locked in as 3 my e budget enablers. No room at the Shaq for him.

I'm getting rid of Zaha, too inconsistent, think he'll continue to score the odd goal with no baps, followed by 2 or 3 blanks

    Elliot --> Henessy
    RLC --> Hazard
    Lukaku --> Niasse

All of above for -4 is worth it? I have Speroni so GK transfer is a must as both of them are non-starters.

    Foster
    Azpilicueta | Otamendi | Mee | Daniels
    Hazard(c) | Salah | Sane
    Abraham | Kane | Morata

    Elliot | RLC | Carroll | Mbemba

    A) Start Abraham or RLC, save ft
    B) Abraham > Wilson
    C) Abraham > Niasse
    C) Carroll > Hughes

Surely he'll give Darlow the chance at the weekend too. He's played his cards. Too short a turnaround to work with a new back 4 and keeper for weekend maybe

Check this bench boost out. Reckon he was aiming for our manager of the month prize. If Salah or Morata gets rested tomorrow, his bench boost total will be....... Minus 1!

        Richalrson (nope)
RLC (doesn't give me enough cash)

Too early for Lamela? Could be another great option in the 6.0-ish bracket... I need a max-6.6 mid to complete team below:

    DDG, Elliott
    Alonso, Daniels, Mee, Moreno, Dunk
    Hazard, Salah, Groß, Richarlison, (6.6)
    Kane, Morata, Niasse

Is Silva -> Sterling a good move for the next GW if Sterling is rested tonight?

    1. WVA
      • 7 Years

Personally I'd hold Silva and just be patient, consistent points and garanteed starter

      1. Pep says
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 5 months ago

Silva is gonna get rested too. If Silva or DeBryune got injured, Pep wouldn't be able to mange the other ones minutes. If both got injured their in trouble. Think Wolverhampton in the EFL Cup, no playmaker resulted in no chances created and no goals.

        1. WVA
          • 7 Years

Obviously he will get rested at some point for one game but there's not the constant worry of him being benched etc

Dont think there's a constant worry for Sané owners either. Granted slightly more but for the potential it's worth it

Kun and Jesus is where the rotation is at

I agree Sane is more nailed than Sterling but then he can actually play football, .7 more than Silva and .9 more than Sterling and only 13 points more than the former so it's basically down to whether you have the spare cash for Sane over Silva but i don't like the Sterling pick for some reason.
