Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Relentless Kane Rolls On

Harry Kane emphatically breaks more records and the hearts of those Fantasy managers who risked turning their back on his talents ahead of an impending blank.

The Spurs striker made it back-to-back hat-tricks from a blisteringly productive festive schedule so far. In doing so, he shattered Alan Shearer’s Premier League record for goals in a calendar year.

Those Fantasy managers who showed patience and held on to Kane will be overjoyed, but now have another difficult decision ahead of them.

They will face a dilemma with a second consecutive 17-point to sweeten the pill, but two hat-tricks in the space of three days cannot shift the fact that Kane now has a blank to come.

More than 131,000 managers had brought him in for the 5-2 win over Southampton regardless of that blank, with 1,161,712 making him the most-captained player of Gameweek 20.

They are now part of a 41.2% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership that must decide whether to stick or twist on the forward.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata is an obvious replacement for Gameweek 21, and he made his case with a first goal since Gameweek 15. To add to the Spaniard’s appeal, the Blues entertain Stoke City next and the Potters, already without Kurt Zouma, saw their skipper Ryan Shawcross limp off today.

But the downside of selling Kane involves cost – in both price and transfers expended.

His value is on the move. It rose to 12.9 ahead of Boxing Day and could increase again before Gameweek 21 with a number of managers either oblivious to, or simply not caring about, his blank.

Some 33,000 have already transferred him in for his non-existent Gameweek 21, so should his price rise again, those selling him could lose profit as well as the two transfers the transaction will cost – assuming, that is, that they bring Kane back for fixtures with Swansea City and West Ham. That is surely a given.

Ignoring Kane for that upcoming pair of attractive fixtures seems untenable. He will be the most-captained for Gameweek 22 and, those with the Triple Captain chip in hand will surely consider putting it in play on the back of Kane’s confidence and devastating form.

Spurs Midfield stake their claim

Kane isn’t the only member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who warrants consideration ahead of the double-header.

Son Heung-min is building a convincing case.

The midfielder started his sixth straight match against Southampton and produced a goal, two assists and a bonus point for a second double-digit haul of that run.

In fact, Son has managed four goals and as many assists from those six matches and although he’s currently the fourth most bought player despite the blank Gameweek 21, he’s still only owned by 3.9%.

Previously far more popular, Dele Alli (11.5%) is also enjoying a min-revival.

He followed up his brace of assists at Burnley with two more, and a goal, against the Saints, with two bonus points pushing his Gameweek tally to a season’s best 15.

Son’s 8.0 price and his considerably more consistent recent form will ensure that the South Korean is favoured, with Alli reduced to an unlikely Gameweek 22 differential.

The same will probably apply to Christian Erisken. The Dane’s assist was dwarfed by other performances, but marked a fifth return in six Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, it remains difficult to justify investment in the Spurs defence.

Pochettino’s rotation policy concerning his wing-backs is now confusing everyone but him, with Serge Aurier (0.5%) handed a second straight start – and his third in four matches – as Kieran Trippier (5.8%) joined Ben Davies on the bench.

With the points potential of Spurs’ wing-backs now difficult to predict, the side’s lack of defensive stability – they’ve kept just two clean sheets since Gameweek 12 – further dampens the appeal of recruitment for the forthcoming double.

For the DGW, I am planning to free up 2 of my midfield slots. If money is not an issue...which 2 will you pick and why?

    1) Alli
    2) Eriksen
    3) Son
    4) Arnie

It's a short term move, when Moreno is back Robertson is a rotation risk. As a Liverpool fan I hope Robertson keeps his place.

Depends if you have Kane..Arnie has good fixures post DGW so you won't have to worry about shipping him out.

Alli is inconsistent..Son a rotation risk.

I personally would have Kane, Arnie and one of the remaining 3 Spurs MFs.

All suggestions welcome. I have 2 FTs but not able to decide what to do due to nothing ITB (Strange, considering I have been a hit freak thus season). One issue is that I am without a playing GK in GW21. Team is:
    Adrian* (Pereira*)
    Otamendi Christensen Jones (Ogbonna* Mariappa*)
    Salah Coutinho Sterling Hazard Richarlison
    Firmino Quaner (Kane*)
    ITB: 0.0
    FTs: 2

TM or anyone who may know, Kane getting so many new owners seems a little weird before a blank.
Could it be new users who create new teams (yes, the ones who usually win the weekly prize) with Kane in causing the rise?

Not sure ppl purposefully want to create teams just so that they could raise his price. They ain't gonna be winning any weekly prize with Kane in it this GW that's for sure.

Looking at Spurs and fixtures with double GW coming up, is it any less advantageous to use free hit chip now, than waiting for the blanks GW's in the spring? From what I remember, those short GW's were full of dud teams

How many big hitters would you be benching? Free hitters get their strong team back and don't need to worry about buying dud players in the lead up.

If you could have several weeks to plan for it, one might manage the blanks ok even without free hit chip. Just wonder where max points might be gained. We've already seen it used in normal gameweeks and it worked, but maybe it didn't work for other risk takers

It's pretty much guaranteed for the dud week as most of your team could be blanking. You either play short or WC after it to get your team back.

I'm looking to go 3 WHU and probably just 2 TOT.
Like you say the fixtures for Spurs aren't great but the short term ones are (EVE sou) which gives you time to switch them out. West Ham however have really good fixtures after the double so no issue maxing out on their assets.
I'd save the free hit chip until later in the season and triple captain Kane.

But surely there would be s limited number of players who play about 120mins.

I will personally probably have 3 or 4 doubles. But debsteable whether it is worth taking too many hits to load up.

If they don't play FA Cup, they get a big break either way.

Not having Lingard, Coutinho and Firmino for choices like Hazard and Pogba have killed my rankings.. Dropped down to 60 points behind my ml leader.. Even if Hazard gets a 20 point haul, his average over 5 gw will be a pathetic 6 points whereas Coutinho has kept going on and on.. Just so frustrated..
Not to mention took an 8 point hit for Cout, Firmino and Lingard in place of Haz, Dcl and Pogba..
Its like playing catch up but i can't afford to lose any more ground on my leader..

Ah mate, was it you? 😀 yeah, had a feeling she was right! I was watching and screaming, swearing and punching that poor sofa. My brother in law was just quietly observing 🙂 He knew punches would fly if he was to say some bull dust 😀 (Kane non owner, I would C him if I had him)

Rp, just trying to gather more opinions..
    THOUGHTS:
I have other priorities for the upcoming weeks, but should i consider moving some money out of the defence over a couple of weeks, to free up to upgrade some of attackers? Team and my current prices for em:

    DDG (5.8) Fab (4.5)
    Jones (5.4) Ota (5.9) Gomez (4.6) Mee (4.6) Azpi (6.7)
    Salah (9.9) Lingard (6.0) Surman (4.7) Sterling (8.6) Hazard (10.7)
    Rooney (7.5) Firmino (8.6) JAyew (5.0)

Am i right in thinking that? Should i move some money out of the defence?
(plan for DGW does involve bringing in kane up top for rooney, but that doesnt involve changing defence)..?

First look, I am thinking to move DDg in the near future. Utd can't keep CS...Also, I think you have one too many playing defenders or too much monies in your defence if you like.

Trust me, I know haha. Would probably lose one of em, just don’t know which... DDG more reliable, can get save points etc., but is more expensive

This a good move next GW?

    Hazard + Rooney + Depoitre > RLC + Kane + DCL -4

    Would leave me with:
    Salah KDB Sterling Son (RLC)
    Firmino Kane (DCL)

Me too, but I was in a dilemma on what to do...fortunately it paid off. Mind you, I took a 8-pt hit cos I needed cash (also did Gross --> Atsu), but that hit has been instantly repaid!
