FFS Charity Football Tournament

In just under a fortnight, on Saturday 24th February, around 30 Fantasy Football Scout community members will be putting away their keyboards and dusting off their replica kits as they get ready to play a round-robin, seven-a-side charity football tournament.

The event takes place at Hendon Football Centre, Barnet, NW9 5PE, between 12-3pm and has been organised by myself and TopMarx.

The day is being staged in memory of Simon Humber, who lost his battle with ocular melanoma in 2015. Simon was the creative director of EA’s FIFA team, a Portsmouth FC fan and a popular member of the Fantasy Football Scout community as ‘Absinthe’.

All the money raised will go to The Melanoma Research Foundation – a charity identified and verified in our recent contact with Simon’s family.

More information about Simon, together with an opportunity to donate, is available at this Just Giving page.

Please note that donations are expressed in dollars, rather than pounds, so a donation of $10 will be around £7.20 (based on the exchange rate on the morning of 12th February 2018).

The current squad lists (which may vary on the day) are below, but even if you are not playing or spectating please spare a few moments and a few quid by clicking on the Just Giving link and making a donation.

In addition to donations, a strict punitive system will be operated on the day with fines in place for diving, being nutmegged, late tackles and anything else the FFScout community can suggest. We are hoping to get some footage of the matches but can’t promise Sky Sports standard broadcasting.

Liked the look of Schmeichel but doesn't play in 31 unless they lose to Sheffield United in the cup, but if they do lose to SFU then he's probably straight in my team

Begovic is a decent pick, though in that relegation scrap I can't see many clean sheets for any teams, especially B'mouth

I'm assuming with that attack that your defence isn't as solid

Personally I would still get Firmino in but maybe get in Mili instead of Miki/Arnie

Long term it's a good move but don't expect Miki or Arnie to get anything other than 2 points this week. However Firminho could run riot against that West Ham defence so I'd do it.

I'm struggling on the BGW logic of holding FH until 35 rather than doing it on 31...

31 vastly limited teams likely to be playing seems perfect time for FH - comapred to 35 when there should be more teams playing and thus higher likelihood of fielding a full 11...

    Any help/input be much appreciated!

    1. Majestic Chanka
      • 7 Years
      6 years, 2 months ago

Teams that blank in 35 will likely have doubles either side. Can max the doubles without losing out on the lesser blank.

With so few teams playing in 31 there is little to be gained if you already have a few pool players and a couple others.

I thought exactly the same. To get out XI in GW31, chances are you will need 8 players you don't really want long term (plus VvD, Firmino and Salah). Having already used my FH, I will just accept only fielding 6/7 that week, and that's where I fear most damage can be done

    3. Pras (FPL)
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 2 months ago

      Let me try

      There are 2 main reasons

      1) Firstly, suppose we have 3 games only GW31, the actual points "up for grabs" will be low i.e. by having Salah/Firmino/VVD/2-3 others can help you get 80% of the points anyway. So why waste a free hit to get a Watford defender that will get you 1-2 points

      2) Secondly, the interesting part about GW35 is that those who blank WILL have a DGW later. So after GW31 load up on the DGW players and not worry about the BGW

The above goes with usual caveats of lots of matches to be playes, injuries etc. etc.

    4. Rik Waller
      • 6 Years
      6 years, 2 months ago

The highly owned players will likely blank, and there are more games taking place to take advantage of a FH team in GW35. For GW31 it looks like only Liverpool offering potentially big points, so there's less value in using the FH chip.
Just make sure to have triple Liverpool and a few others to navigate GW31 imo

GW32 for me probably, to deal with the rubbish I have coming out of GW31

A lot seem to be wildcarding into 32, set up for DGW34, DGW37 and using the free hit to navigate BGW35. I am, at least.

I prefer my WC to be the week before the BB to get 12 double gameweek players active and also avoid wasting ££ on the bench between the WC and BB - not sure a WC in 32 can stretch to BB in 34, and certainly not 37?

If you go in 32 you've 2 ft's before 34. Agree it's a big stretch to get to 37 though.

Ah frustrating, I did not captain Kane for his back to back hat tricks and got 2 back to back scores in 90s
And did not captain Kun or Salah for their hauls, so hopefully the differential Haz(c) delivers

Rival has already used Free Hit. Since I know he can no longer use it, would it be wise to use mine GW31, as that's where there is most likely to be a bigger disparity in players starting?

Hmm it's a tough one. I'm personally holding off till 35 because there is enough time right now to get a decent team for week 31.
Tbh I think a lot depends on Facebook cup results next week. I'd wait for those games to finish before making a call

Not sure how this stacks up against other peoples prospects...

        Pickford
        Jones - Otamendi - Mee
        Salah - Walcott - Sterling - Shaqiri
        Kane - Firmino - Wilson

        Elliot - Dunk - Lingard - Ogbonna

          Currently you have 5

          Pickford
          Salah Walcott Shaq
          Firmino

4 FTs could get you to 9 although that means ignoring other teams with good fixtures.

See how FA Cup goes as 1 upset could make 11 easy to achieve.

    A Robertson
    B Van Dijk

      I went for B
He doesn't really have a (solid) replacement, and Liverpool fighting for top 4 in the PL.
      Baps magnet
Goal threat (alright, it's TBD). I see him getting up for them headers, especially if they need a goal.

A is more attacking in open play, but imo has a higher risk for rotation.

    Questions re: Free Hit.

1: If I have 2 FT's, make the transfers and THEN play my free hit... is the team I get back the following game week the one I had after my 2 FT's, or the one I had before I made them?

2: Do you get a free transfer for the following week? Say you play your free hit in GW31, do you get a free transfer for GW32?

    1. BobBradleysOpportunity

      1) you'll end up with same team and 1 ft regardless of when you play the free hit (before or after making moves)
      2) one free transfer the following week regardless like a wildcard

Why would it be a fail?

Are you saying that if make 2 transfers on Monday, and then on Friday use my free hit, the team I get back after my free-hit is finished is the one I had on Sunday?! I.e. before my Monday transfers?

The team you get back is the team from the previous GW.
Free Hit = Make unlimited free transfers for a single Gameweek. At the next deadline your squad is returned to how it was at the start of the Gameweek.

Hazard to score the 1-0 winner for 11 + 2 points seems your most likely route (or some variation with 2 - 0 and a save point for Foster + hazard full baps anyways)

    How does this look lads?
    Fabianski (Coleman)
    Alonso Robertson Fernandez Chilwell (Ogbonna)
De Bruyne Salah Sterling (McArthur, Mesa)
    Kane Aguero Firmino

Tried to get a core of Alonso-KDB-Salah-Sterling-Kane-Aguero-Firmino. Of course, this is based on whether or not Alonso performs today, as upcoming fixtures are atrocious.

I'm just not a huge fan of 4-3-3 in general, way I play the game I guess, and when I have played it so far this season it has averaged the worst in terms of points for me

Also think Triple City is a bit overkill, but as you're a huge Kun and City fan I suppose I would do it too in your position.

          • 8 Years

Definitely very overkill, but between my bias and the fact that it worked this weekend, I can't say no to myself on that one 😆

I think generally people play 4-3-3 with a cheap striker and two expensive strikers, and two expensive mids and one cheap mid. I figure this system is a lot better because I'm not spending unnecessary budget on defense (unless Alonso counts, which is why I'm still thinking that one over)

I think West Brom pillage the Chelsea village this weekend and get Conte sacked, for what it's worth. And the new manager may try to rein Alonso in more in the search for defensive solidity.
