The ScoutCast – Episode 179 – Resolutions

New Year, new aspirations, same old voices.

The first ScoutCast of 2016 is brimming with determined talk of banishing old habits which, in all honesty, will likely evaporate in the weeks to come. That’s particularly true of my no-Aguero policy, which feels even more flimsy after taking in the musings of Jonty and Andy in this episode.

Man City’s hitman and faltering away form comes under the microscope via another batch of community questions, along with an assessment of Dele Alli, Kane without Dembele and the allure of the French fancy that is Dimitri Payet.

We rinse through that little lot, before looking ahead to the floodlit excitement that awaits us in Gameweek 21.

This episode was first aired live on our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening.

You can view the ScoutCast in full via the larger player below (with a minor edit due to a technical hitch mid-cast).

Those who prefer the distilled audio version can treat their ears via this link or the smaller player below.

    Moving target - Ivo Pinto

Full name: Ivo Daniel Ferreira Mendonça Pinto

Date of birth: January 7, 1990

    Nationality: Portuguese

NORWICH City have signed Ivo Pinto from Dinamo Zagreb for an undisclosed fee subject to paperwork, with Pinto describing himself as an "intense and fast" full back.

Pinto was born in 1990 in Lourosa, and subsequently started his youth career at his local side Lusitânia FC. Showing promise, the right-back earned a move to FC Porto in the Primeira Liga in 2008.

Pinto saw his first team chances limited, moving on loan to Gil Vicente and Vitória Setúbal before playing regularly on-loan at Covilhã, playing more than 20 times for the Segunda Liga side.

Rio Ave snapped up the 21-year-old, but Pinto failed to make an appearance for the top-flight side, instead spending a season on-loan at fellow Primeira Liga side U.D. Leiria.

Despite U.D. Leiria's relegation, impressive performances saw him secure a move to Romanian champions CFR Cluj, becoming a first-team regular as Cluj finished in 9th place.

Title glory was to follow as Pinto joined Dinamo Zagreb, making over 100 appearances over two seasons as he helped The Blues to consecutive Croatian titles in the MAXtv Prva HNL, as well as Croatian Cup and Super Cup successes.

Pinto has already faced English opposition this season, having lined up against Arsenal in September as Dinamo triumphed 2-1 over Arsène Wenger’s side in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old attacking right back has represented Portugal at every youth level, featuring in excess of 30 times, but is yet to win a full international cap.

        - Possible DGW on the horizon

If you have the cash to spare, then yes. Even though Spurs have not had many CS in the last 10 matches, Toby has been consistently getting attacking points.

If you are tight on funds or will get Aguero soon (or even have him already) then you might not be able to afford him, depending on your other players.

I'm seriously doubting KDB atm, I even took him out this week to pave the way for Aguero. He always seems to screw me over though, but he keeps getting 3s. 10m+ just seems too much to pay for that.

      I wouldn't suggest a -8 though.

I like that team other than the keepers.

As a punt to get back up the ranks, I would DEFINITELY leave out Mahrez. Everyone has him, so punting on him missing out even though he might get the odd goal assist frees up an extra place on your team which is closed to EVERYBODY else's team. I would go for it if you absolutely need to recover a hopeless situation. But inside 1m OR I would still try to play safe. If outside 1m then I would try doing Mahrez out.

    Is FFS becoming a joke?

I belong to other FPL forums and I have to say that the respect of FFS is diminishing by the day.

    Examples of poor FFS advice.

The current watch list has Rudd as number 5. Where is Lloris? No one in their right mind would put Rudd in front of Lloris be it one game or the next six. How is Alderweireld the top defender in the watch list if Lloris is not included in the goalkeepers watch list. Surely Alderweireld is not top of the defenders watch list purely on attacking threat.

The Season Ticker. Are you guys for real. The top team in order of difficulty of fixtures over the next six game weeks is WBA!!!!!. Just two home games over the next six. The second team is West Ham, again two home games in the next six. Meanwhile Man City, that rubbish team that are pushing to win the league, are third from bottom, despite having four home games in the next six.

I accuse the organizers of FFS of taking their eye off the ball and giving poor advice.

    I await your response accordingly.

Some of this is fair comment. I have also had some gripes with the content this year myself, it does seem to have taken a bit of a knock in terms of quality over the last year or so.

Some of the fixture articles are a joke in terms of the writers seeming to take their own personal impressions of what is difficult or not in fixture terms. There was one before Christmas where Leicester were not in a weak article which really got my goat.

Overall though this is probably the best place for information and you can use it however you like so I'd not grumble too much.

    6. F_Ivanovic
      • 8 Years

Maybe because Rudd is the cheapest playing GK and has 2 CS in 2 with decent fixtures on the horizon? As such you would actually consider him as a cheap GK option. Lloris on the other hand although a far superior GK playing for a much better team is 5.1 - he doesn't get too many save points and there are plenty of GK avg a better PPG atm.

As for season ticker I don't see what's wrong with it? It only takes into account the difficulty of opponent as opposed to how good the team is itself. All it needs is a bit of common sense applied to make that what of you will.

    Are peopel keeping Barkley?

I'm not sure about continuing the Everton double up and Lukaku looks the more essential.

I'm tempted to shift Barkley out for Payet/Siggy this week although for a hit.

      I wouldn't for a hit.
The Etihad is no way near the bastion it has been in recent seasons. Barkley could easily leave with a 10. IMO especially if Lukaku is out as Martinez may push him further up the pitch.

Having said that, I am probably getting rid for Alli this week and keeping Lukaku as I reckon he'll be fit and unfortunately most likely score the winner against us.

Which two to play out of Payet, Alli or Mahrez?

    EXTREME: Bench Kane play all.

    1. Jumpernot

I'd go with benching Mahrez. Leicester are away, Vardy probably won't be playing, Leicester have blanked the last few games, Tottenham have a decent defence and everyone has Mahrez so it could go in your favour should he not produce this week. I'm benching him.

      1. F_Ivanovic
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

A lot does rest on whether Vardy will recover in time although that said it might mean Mahrez is more focal? Leicester don't mind being away - as a counter attacking team they like to sit back anyway and soak up the pressure before countering. They've only lost the 1 away game this season against Liverpool and before that had won 4 away games on the bounce.

Mahrez scored in the reverse earlier in the year and him being on Pens always helps.
