People the article isn't even a day old, please let's not go down previous routes of complaints about behind door team selections. For all those who have played these over the years they will know this one has loads of spots for the amount that normally want to play.
Most of the captains probably have even logged on today, and looking at the names there are loads of new captains so the chance of all the teams recruiting off site is zero.
Just email captains and wait, I am sure the last few that had this number of spaces still had room the day before it kicked off.
Organisers put a bit of effort into sorting this out so let's not make it a negative experience for them.
And anyway Hawaii have it in the bag so you will all lose anyway

      Well said JTD.

People will get out of this tournament what they put into it. My recommendation to captains out there, and those applying, is to create an active and engaged team. Look for the FFS members who will help foster a great team spirit.

Special Agent Diva Cooper looked around the pokey room he had been assigned. Actually, calling it a room was being generous. It was more like a broom cupboard minus the mops and Gordon The Gopher. The broom cupboard had barely heard of the internet and getting wifi was going to be a nightmare in this dark recess of the basement. Dog-eared newspaper clippings and a poster bearing the phrase "I want to believe" filled the gaps between the walls like discarded wrapping paper from the mind of the previous occupant.

Special Agent Cooper sighed and slumped into the unfortable swivel chair behind the desk that may have been made during the Great Depression and had borne that sadness ever since. He picked up the manila folder and stared at the three short words printed on the front:

    The Tex Files

This was going to be a tough assignment, but he would do it... for the Presidents.

The SanDiego casuals (previously the SanDiego whale vaginas) are now full. as the name suggests the first 5 applicants proved to be the men for the job and were hired. No behind the scenes team favouring was used, just the first to contact me when i made an appeal a couple of days ago. i know there are still alot of spots open on other teams though. good luck to all and expect our opening presser shortly.

      FFS username is a minimum.

Idea is to get people posting a little so you don't need to pick regulars but ideally want someone who will get involved in the tournament.

I appreciate the hard work of organizing tournaments but must share this sentiment about recruitment this time round. Normally when there's a FFS community tournament there's loads of recruiting and banter surrounding that. This time we don't even know how many places are available and I similarly am not prepared to flaunt myself to get into a team of strangers.
We had a "frequent posters" cup last year; without being Lurkerist the community tournaments should deploy a similar theme. I saw a captain who's only got 5 recent posts; 3 of them the same thing reposted. Why would I join his team?

Page 1 of The Tex Files was marked Top Secret and Special Agent Cooper was sure the same status would apply to all the other pages in the folder. Under the heading "The Fantasy Texas Chili Bowl Files (AKA The Tex Files)", the first page carried a note from President Abraham Cheeseoid who, in that quaint British phrase, was first among equals.

It is little known fact that the USA has not one President but many. Countless lives and billions of dollars have been spent over the years protecting that secret. Every four years the US goes through the theatre of electing a new President, but the real power lies in the shadows. However, that grip on power was weakening. The signs had been there for years, most notably at the end of the millennium when the real Presidents woke up from partying like it was 1999. Nursing monster hangovers, they couldn't even be bothered to come up with an original name for their new public puppet.

"Urgh, the primaries start today, we need a name," President Diva Underwood said, glancing at the text message on his phone that read 'wot name shd we give 2 new pres?'

    "George Bush" slurred President Cheesoid.

"But we used that in the 80s"

    "W...w...well... stick a W in there then."

So President Underwood typed 'George W. Bush' into the Nokia and hit send. The politics of it all didn't really matter to the Presidents, they just wanted to enjoy their little fantasies.

"Should I write to the Telegraph and transfer in Nicky Butt?" asked President Cheeseoid, right on cue, as he opened a bottle of scotch. He saw President Underwood looking at him questioningly and added "hair of the dog".

Back in the present, sitting in that broom cupboard, surrounded by 70s era filing cabinets that mysteriously disappeared from the text of part one of this story, Special Agent Diva Cooper reflected on how confusing it would be for anyone reading his thoughts to understand how there could be a President Diva Underwood and a Special Agent Diva Cooper. The fact was the Presidents, as befits any good secret organization, were masters of disguise who could adopt many different personas in the furtherance of their goals. One minute an FBI agent, the next President of the United States.

Page 1 set out Special Agent Cooper's mission: President Cheeseoid, fresh from his success masquerading as a corrupt FIFFSA executive, had detected a new threat to the Presidents. The Countdown mastermind Jarvish had set up a rival committee to organize fantasy tournaments called the FCB. President Cheeseoid had successfully infiltrated the start-up and what he had learned had worried him. Jarvish was building a rival power structure and would soon have nearly 150 fantasy players dancing to his tune.

However, through his undercover efforts, President Cheeseoid had managed to secure himself a spot as one of Jarvish's 24 hand-picked Capos and, with it, one of the all important franchises. President Cheeseoid had selected a small band of Presidents to join the team on this urgent mission to win the Fantasy Texas Chili Bowl and protect the Presidents organization.

Special Agent Cooper's hand moved to turn the page and discover who was in the select band chosen to join this mission...

I'm struggling to see how your (and others') predicament would be different if the teams were being finalised "out in the open" (whatever that means!).

We will provide regular updates on who has submitted their teams - captains have been advised to post on here if they are actively recruiting, and all team captains have been encouraged to select players from the whole FFS spectrum.

What he's saying is that there are no posts about joining teams. All we're seeing is posts about teams already completed

That is up to the captains - even if we made every captain appeal for players on here, they would still ultimately select their teams in the same way. If we made captains pick regular posters only, we wouldn't have had enough captains applying. We struggled to get enough as it is.

Some people always complain about the selection process, no matter how it is done. It happens every single community tournament. It would be amazing to find a solution that pleases everyone, bud sadly I think such solution doesn't exist.

A few of those captains were always going to just recruit the same team members from previous tournaments, so those spots were never going to be available.

Exactly - and if we told captains they weren't allowed to do this, we wouldn't have had anywhere near enough captains applying unfortunately.

Cheers for the reply Jarvish. 🙂
I thought the teams would start recruiting in the IB but looks like that 20/24 teams have already been filled and most of them behind locked doors so kindly if you can tell us how many spots are actually available?

Don't mind signing up for this. Nowhere near the top 10k but upto 150k after a dismal start..

ok people I have done some sniffer dog work and as far as I can see this is situation
    teams that are full
    Miami
    Cleveland
    Hawaii
    las vegas
    san Antonio
    seattle
    SFrancisco
    san diego
    Washington
that's nine out of 24, not seen any comments from any of other captains so their situation is unclear.
at least two of these teams recruited from this page or applications, the others I suspect by the names of the teams have recruited privately. My opinion is its their choice, would have happened anyway. Easy for me to say when every team sent me a request to join just to be their poster dog.
So as far as I can see there are still 75 places up for grabs.
Again its only my opinion but having taken on captain duties in the past and recruited some unfamiliar names it doesn't always work out, so I would rather the likes of chucky and Kinnear got in, as at least you know they will respond 6 weeks into the tournament.
anyway I have to go and work out how to pee on palm trees without getting it all over my coconuts

cheers.. 🙂 I did some detective work too and found out that 19/20 teams are full but i could be wrong 🙁 Some of them have their own private groups so they are not even recruiting on here but it's their choice as you say so no worries.

Spots available in these teams imo.
      Kingozil- Phoenix Philistines
      KJ – Albuquerque Shaolin
Mr Calm – Chicago Bull Sitters
      Narcos – Philadelphia Sentrymen
Siddharth – New York Tommy Guns

I asked to join Indianapolis House of Pancakes (Pirlo's Pen) the other day and I'm pretty sure I was the first application, so could easily be spots left.

        that's a lot higher than I thought
maybe it will fill up quicker than the norm.
wonder if option there to increase each team by a spot

I'm not desperate to contend in this but would be happy to join and would then get involved in tactics, etc (a bit like when I was in Team Europe Ryder cup recently)

My team is linked (ID 245), shout if you want me to join your team.

    Hi caps,

I have never been part of similar tournaments and i would really like a chance to play in this one.

This is my 10th year playing ff, but only 3rd as part of ffs community. Its pretty clear what difference ffs made, coz last 2 years i finished in top 1k, both times i was also first in my country rankings (Montenegro).

If there is place in your team, pls feel free to contact me on petar.mne@gmail.com

I'd be up for joining a team. Finished 421st last year and 2k the season before. Also won the the FFS Community Grand Play off tournament last season. Slow start as usual this season but the annual ascent up the rankings has begun! Team is linked.

A re post...I was part of Team Zambia that won the FIFSA World Cup last year. We had amazing team communications and we all played a part so I know how to be a team player. My OR is 2545. I have played FF for over 10 years.

Hey Jonny! It's a pity the Zambian govt banned us from going to Trumpland as a team. Next time then!

Captains, I vouch for Jonny. Top team player and has a knack for producing monster scores just when the team needs it. Saved us several times in our winning campaign last year.
