Captain Sensible – Gameweek 23

We brace ourselves for a busy next few days, as the first of two rounds of fixtures within a week gets underway this evening.

As usual, we roll out our pre-Gameweek members article, assessing the main Captain Poll contenders and taking a look at the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before suggesting a differential or two to help with your armband dilemma.

The Captain Poll

It’s a case of déjà vu when it comes to our latest Captain Poll as Alexis Sanchez once again leads the way ahead of Arsenal’s home clash with Watford.

Over 47% are backing the Chilean to get amongst the points against a defence with a single clean sheet in 12 Gameweeks. A late penalty against Burnley last time out means he’s scored or assisted in all but one of the last ten Gameweeks.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is rated as the best of the rest with 21% of the votes cast.

Set to host a Hull defence that’s conceded more goals on the road (26) than any other side, the United striker has been almost as consistent as Sanchez, proving points in nine of his last 11 league outings.

Harry Kane has persuade 10% of voters as Spurs make their way to struggling Sunderland.

Having recovered from an ankle injury in time for Tuesday’s clash, Kane has racked up six goals and two assists in his last five fixtures and faces a Black Cats backline that’s conceded at least twice in each of their previous five.

With the three big-hitters proving so popular, there is a number of differential options on offer.

Dele Alli earns just 4% votes, yet has eight goals in six to his name ahead of that trip to Wearside. Team-mate Christian Eriksen, meanwhile, has six double-digit hauls in the last ten Gameweeks.

Over at the Emirates, Olivier Giroud has netted in four of the last five Gameweeks yet, like Eriksen, has been picked by just 1%.

Sergio Aguero collects a mere 2% of the votes for City’s trip to West Ham, with concerns still surrounding the knock that saw him miss the weekend FA Cup win at Palace.

Everton’s trip to Stoke has convinced just 1% to look at Romelu Lukaku. The big Belgian rolls up to the bet365 having netted in three of the last five Gameweeks.

Diego Costa’s popularity (1%) is surprisingly low for Chelsea’s trip to Liverpool, given that he’s scored or assisted in 16 of 20 league appearances. All three of his 10+ points returns have arrived on the road.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Seems silly to get rid of Kosc before Watford, but he's the main option. I'd get rid of Alonso personally.

    Foster
    Alonso Rose Jones
    Sanchez Eriksen Pogba Phillips
    Ibra Giroud Defoe

    (Pickford; Pieters Capoue Amat)

1 free transfer, 0.9 in the bank. Thoughts?

I take it by the lack of replies that either people can't decide or I should just save the transfer.

Judging by Poch's comments about rest and Kanes small injury, I wouldn't be surprised to see him taken off early tonight if Spurs are winning - which is very likely.

I can see Liverpool losing there next 3 home games i.e. Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal

Is anyone else considering a GW26 WC?

Should enable 11 starters in GW26 and GW28 and the 10FTs post GW28 will mean you can load up on DGWers for the bumper DGWs in GW34 and 37. What's not to like?

Something like this lot, which I don't think damages team structure or quality too much.

    LLORIS
    ALONSO, Baines, Brunt
    ALLI, Siggy, Antonio, Phillips
    COSTA, KANE, Lukaku

    Jaku, Stan, Nyom, Holgate

It's a good idea, but I think the problem is the 8 odd GWs in between when you're stuck with absolutely none of the big team big-point scorers because you shifted them out

And then trying to get them in 2 at a time (with price fluctuations) would mean that you're a sitting duck in terms of rank in the weeks leading up to the DGW

      1. Jinswick

        7 years, 3 months ago

This is a good point and is the biggest issue. The above team does already have 3 TOT and 2 CHE (which have decent fixtures from 26 onwards) and the fixtures for 2 of the other big teams with 2 DGWs looming (ARS, MCY) don't really get good until GW31/32 onwards, so no massive rush to get them in, i.e. from GW26 they have:

ARS: blank, liv, blank*, wba, MCY
MCY: blank, sun, blank*, LIV, ars, che

Not at all, they are likely to have a blank. I'd probably lose one of the outfield CAPS players above in GW28 to get 11 starters (4 CAPS on the bench) and then start GW29 with 2FT and 4 decent future DGWers in my squad. Then use remaining transfers to bring in ARS, MCY, MUN players depending on fixtures/form up to the DGWs.

Lallana strong chance it was only a few stitches for a cut (90%), not sure on J.Rod, Aguero was in team training either yesterday or monday so good chance he plays I'd say (80%).

Randolph 100% nailed for West Ham now, right? Or is Adrian lurking? Considering bringing him in for gw 25 when they have West Brom (h), and Heaton has Chelsea (h). They seem to rotate pretty well, and it will give me a playing gk for gw28. Currently on Heaton and Lloris, so this will free up some funds as well. So again, back to the question, how secure is his spot? 🙂
