The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 33

With the day billed as a head-to-head between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, it was the Spurs man who ultimately came out on top – rewarding those who move to adopt him early to maximise his potential as a short-term differential.

The gap was six points – hardly a huge margin but enough to elevate Kane’s status and ensure that he’s currently second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with Manchester United’s two fixtures – for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34 so far.

In contrast, Lukaku looks destined for an ownership loss as traffic moves to Ibrahimovic: there is already a deficit with only Diego Costa, and Jamie Vardy sold more among forwards at this point.

Selling Lukaku remains a scary prospect – with 12 goals in ten, 13 in his last eight at home – the Everton striker could easily punish the shift to the United man.

He will face a trip to West Ham, while Ibrahimovic squares up to both Burnley and Manchester City away. With a Goodison Park encounter with Chelsea to follow before we shift to Double Gameweek assets, for many Fantasy managers, today will be the final farewell for Lukaku – a player who has been a spectacular servant since the season’s mid-way point.

Kane is heading in the opposite direction.

While the Spurs midfield is awash with consistent options – a fact demonstrated again in today’s win over Bournemouth – Kane is surely now the premium striker of choice.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in irrepressible form, with Kane now back installed as the spearhead to feed off the first-class service provided by Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in particular.

Kane went into the today’s encounter as part of 590,000 squads, with 251,000 of those owners immediately trusting him with the captaincy.

He was to score and assist for only the third time this season, sealing the maximum bonus to double Lukaku’s six-point tally.

Having delivered on the armband, Fantasy managers are now faced with a dilemma.

Ibrahimovic is clearly being brought in for his two fixtures as the default captaincy option and yet Spurs’ form, even heading into a testing trip to Crystal Palace, is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the past four matches for all sides, Pochettino’s men have scored 13 goals – five more than any other side. They also lead the way for attempts, shots in the box and big chances.

Comparing them directly with United, they’ve recorded 38 shots on target compared to 21 from Jose Mourinho’s side when both sides’ last four matches are considered.

Even if we can be certain that Ibrahimovic will figure in both his Gameweek 34 fixtures, it’s debatable whether he can better Kane’s potential output.

Spurs are seemingly hellbent on maintaining their title challenge, and the striker himself appears focused on closing on Lukaku in the Golden Boot race.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Spurs and Kane have outscored double Gameweek assets and punished those who dare overlook them. In Gameweek 34 last season, they hit four at Stoke City with Kane firing a brace after 200,000 shipped him out.

Nobody will be selling Kane this time around, but it’s the armband decision that looks key.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Why? Each move makes sense in isolation, and 8 points buys me 5 extra fixtures. I'm still 50/50. Losing Sanchez another option, but I have no WC and I will want him back for sure. Would cost at least one hit later.

The only move of the 3 I'm not totally comfortable with is Lukaku > Ibra. But as explained above I have no WC, and will want Sanchez later, so seems silly to sell him now. Whereas Lukaku sadly will have to go at some point; now seems the time. He only have 2 home games left, one vs Chelsea.

Morning dzz, after 10 consecutive greens..i have hit a rough patch with 3 reds in a row..currently on 43 points with only sanchez and valencia left...thoughts on the next move till i WC in gw36

    Grant -- Heaton
Valencia Robertson Davies -- Mcauly Stones
Alli Eriksen Zaha Sanchez -- Fletch
    Kun Teke Kaku

    A: Kaku + Mcualy >> Ibra + Gibson (-4)
    B: Kaku + Eriksen + Mcauly >> Ibra + Pogba (punt) + Gibson (-8)
    C: Kaku + Eriksen >> Ibra + Pogba (-4)

Can also take out Kun in any of the above moves

Ibra is better away from home than at home. Looks good for GW34 in that sense. Recommend waiting as they play today and Thursday (EL) and he is not going to be rested for the FA Cup semi either.

At home against teams in the Top 8: 3 goals in 4 games
At home against teams outside the Top 8: 4 goals in 10 games
Away against teams in the Top 8: 3 goals in 4 games
Away against teams outside the Top 8: 8 goals in 9 games

You think Mourinho will rest him against Arsenal? Can't see it myself.Chelsea, Anderlecht, Arsenal, Burnley, City. Could not really have more difficult fixtures given their position.

Good point - my mistake! Not a bad punt then if he has reduced mins against Anderlecht

Ibra/Man Utd don't have FA Cup semi. That's why they have two fixtures that week.

Lukaku only has two home games left, and one of those is Chelsea. Will anyone be captaining him from now until the end? That other home game is in GW37, so likely to be C'ing a DGW player.

I only tend to consider him for home games usually, too unpredictable away.

He loves playing West Ham though - scored 7 goals against them in his last 7 games. Lukaku:

16 goals and 5 assists in 16 games at home
8 goals and 1 assists in 16 games away

5 of those 8 goals away from home were against two teams - Sunderland (3) and Watford (2).

    Any thoughts welcome on this:

    Henn (Jaku)
Walker Alonso Maguire (Funes Mori, Nyom)
    Sanchez, Alli, Zaha, Sterling (T.Carrol)
    Lukaku Vardy Kane

    0.4m 1Ft

    A) Vardy + Alonso > Ibra + Gibson (-4)
    B) As above + Sterling > Townsend
    C) Vardy + F.Mori > Benteke + Gibson/Bailly

    WC in GW36.

    1FT 0.4 ITB (WC intact)

    C) Tadic to Arnie

Little dilemma. I have a good team in great shape. 8,000th in the world.
Have 2FT. Thinking of a short term move from Sanchez to Townsend. Can always do the reverse move after this weekend. Already have Zaha. With outrageous TV I have WC'd with Ibra, Aguero, Kane, Sanchez, Hazard and Alli. Cheap defenders.
Does the Sanchez to Townsend move make sense for one gameweek with no other pressing transfers? Cheers.

Yep, Sanchez can easily outscore Townsend this week and then you'll want him back regardless but then you might have other injuries and what not to attend to.

Lukaku and Eriksen to IBRA and Son for -4? Having nothing in the bank so Eriksen to Son is a good way of maintaining three spurs (have Kane and Alli)

    Happy Easter everyone!

Here is my team for gameweek 34:

    Hennessy
    Valencia, Alonso, pieters
    Zaha, siggy, davies, eriksen,
    Kane (c), aguero, lukaku

    Jaku, pennington, maculey, phillips

    1ft & 0.3itb

Was thinking aguero to ibra (c) or aguero to benteke (c).

Currently 3rd in ml and both top 2 have zaha & ibra.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
