Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 8

Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we cast our minds back to the previous Gameweek, before preparing you for the incoming fixtures.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and our current Watchlist, before moving on to our Fantasy Football Scout team and future plans.

Gameweek 7 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Huddersfield vs SpursHarry Kane
Bournemouth vs LeicesterMarc Pugh

Man United vs Crystal PalaceMarouane Fellaini
West Brom vs WatfordRicharlison
West Ham vs SwanseaAlfie Mawson
Chelsea vs Manchester CityKevin De Bruyne
Arsenal vs BrightonAlexis Sanchez
Everton vs BurnleyJames Tarkowski
Newcastle vs LiverpoolMatt Ritchie

A mixture of big hitters and budget enablers make up the gang this week, with Harry Kane (46.7%) and Kevin De Bruyne (17.5%) the most heavily owned.

Meanwhile, Richarlison stormed into the top three midfielders for points.

He costs just 7.6 – slightly more pricey than budget enablers of the past – but is building a compelling case for inclusion, with Watford’s fixtures also picking up from Gameweek 12 to further his cause.

James Tarkowski, at 6.1, is another name for consideration. The imposing centre-back now has two MoTM awards and has been key to Burnley’s three shut-outs so far.

Gameweek 8 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 11 points or more in bonus for the season:

members

Man City’s Nicolas Otamendi is probably the most appealing option here. He comes in at 8.6 and is a regular tier two passing earner.

In fact, his bonus is the equivalent of three extra clean sheets already. So considering he has five shut-outs to add to that, you could look at it as eight clean sheets in seven matches, or eight goals in seven for a forward.

That’s impressive scoring whichever way you look at it.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Only Romelu Lukaku looks set to make the weekend’s action as injuries claim some popular players. Alvaro Morata, in particular, stands out as roughly one in ten managers removed him over the international break.

Harry Kane’s frightening form means a further 11.6% have jumped on board, while Sergio Aguero’s recent injury prompted many to turn to Gabriel Jesus and De Bruyne ahead of Man City’s favourable schedule. Elsewhere, Richarlison and Romelu Lukaku make up the top five.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Notes

A jump in rank by a whole two places suggests my week was…average.

To be honest, it was probably less than average when you consider I had a transfer frenzy, subbing in Kiko Femenia, Eden Hazard and Andre Carrillo for Kyle Naughton, Nemanja Matic and Anthony Knockaert.

I simply couldn’t bear another Gameweek with Knockaert in my line-up, while Matic was failing to deliver bonus points at the rate I expected.

I’m now fairly happy with my set-up, with Alexandre Lacazette basically a placeholder for captain rotation. In fact, he’s coming out for Jamie Vardy on Monday. The main concern is undoubtedly my lack of Man City options ahead of their forthcoming fixtures.

I’ll likely wait until Sergio Aguero is fully fit and then address that issue further down the line.

Captain Plan

Sat 14th – Kane (BOU)
Sun 15th – Forster (NEW)
Mon 16th – Vardy (WBA)

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 5 RESULTS

I sincerely apologise. Life got in the way for a little while and unfortunately that meant I fell way behind on where I was supposed to be with the past two gameweeks, and ultimately they didn't happen. GW8 will happen and will be opening shortly. Again, apologies for the past two. These results are also way overdue...

***** SCORES ON THE DOORS *****

    1st - Skloppy Kops (86pts) [3pts]
    Top 4% - D3BUG (79pts), Markus (75pts) [2pts]
    Top 10% - Camra (73pts), Delph & Safety, Scratch (67pts), A Manager Has No Name, AA33, Electrue (66pts) [1pt]

with Ramboros and BMCGann17 missing out on 17 points!

Scout Picks are still having a shocker to date, and a lowly score of 59 combined picks + differentials gives the following an additional bonus point, as well as the above:

Ramboros, BMCGann17, Mince n Tatties, Jonaldinho, GoonerMeister and 2Right!

    Advice please, team is,

    De Gea (Elliot)
    Kolasinac, Davies, Jones, (Mee, Mbemba)
    Hazard, Coutinho, Richarlison, Choupo-Moting (Carroll)
    Kane, Jesus, Chicarito

    1FT 0.2m

Thinking Jones out as don't really want double united defence over these next few GWs, not sure who to punt on, Cedric, Cresswell, Maguire, Gibbs all under consideration.

Any advice, or other moves that are more obvious?

    Also, captain Kane or Hazard?

Would you do Bavies to Ota/Stones on a WC knowing that you'd tranfer the player out anyway gw12 to Jones to fund Lukaku?

Otamendi has better fixtures gw8-11 and could easily keep 4 cleansheets.
On the other hand Rose could play gw11 against Palace with Bavies playing in the Madrid legs and Utd/Pool games. The only fear is the gw8 Bou game.

He's not there for long. Fixtures getting tough, and Poch will rotate with Aurier, and Rose once back.

    G2G for tomorrow?

    Fabianski
    Bavies, Cedric, Dunk
    Eriksen, Sterling, Matic, TCarrol
    Lukaku, Kane(C), Firmino

    Elliot, Naughton, Jones*, Chalobah**

No place for changes, I'm on -8 🙁

Start Jones over TCarroll, more chance of a Jones clean sheet than Carroll attacking returns

Is Sterling really worth getting with Aguero back? Can't ever see him starting more than 1/2 after this week

      I think so.

      Do you own Kun btw?
If not, you're not sure he is 'back' and thus Sterling is a nice punt(of course even if Kun IS back also).

    Pope
    Bavies - Kolasinac - Jones
    Eriksen - Salah - Moting - Ritchie
    Lukaku - Morata - Vardy

    Elliot - Fernandez - Mbemba - RLC

    1 FT & 1.8 ITB.

    A: Lukaku -> Kane
    B: Morata -> Kane & Eriksen -> Silva (-4)
    C: Morata -> Kane & some other downgrade (-4)

Kane is coming into my team, but how? Could do A and bench Morata (and play Fernandez), but will have no bench this week. Dont really want to ship Eriksen, but I guess Silva will be a good replacement. Shipping Lukaku is also though, know I would want him back later. Difficult...

      RLC

you do not want any 4.0 defender (unless you still have your WC, then Mbemba). before we know it, fixture congestion will be here. you need 5 playing defenders.

Down to a few decisions on wildcard - just need to finalize the last 15 spots. Long term preferences on these defenders in similar price brackets?

    1. Bavies
    2. Luiz

    A. Cedric
    B. Maguire
