Scout Notes – Relentless Kane Rolls On

Harry Kane emphatically breaks more records and the hearts of those Fantasy managers who risked turning their back on his talents ahead of an impending blank.

The Spurs striker made it back-to-back hat-tricks from a blisteringly productive festive schedule so far. In doing so, he shattered Alan Shearer’s Premier League record for goals in a calendar year.

Those Fantasy managers who showed patience and held on to Kane will be overjoyed, but now have another difficult decision ahead of them.

They will face a dilemma with a second consecutive 17-point to sweeten the pill, but two hat-tricks in the space of three days cannot shift the fact that Kane now has a blank to come.

More than 131,000 managers had brought him in for the 5-2 win over Southampton regardless of that blank, with 1,161,712 making him the most-captained player of Gameweek 20.

They are now part of a 41.2% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership that must decide whether to stick or twist on the forward.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata is an obvious replacement for Gameweek 21, and he made his case with a first goal since Gameweek 15. To add to the Spaniard’s appeal, the Blues entertain Stoke City next and the Potters, already without Kurt Zouma, saw their skipper Ryan Shawcross limp off today.

But the downside of selling Kane involves cost – in both price and transfers expended.

His value is on the move. It rose to 12.9 ahead of Boxing Day and could increase again before Gameweek 21 with a number of managers either oblivious to, or simply not caring about, his blank.

Some 33,000 have already transferred him in for his non-existent Gameweek 21, so should his price rise again, those selling him could lose profit as well as the two transfers the transaction will cost – assuming, that is, that they bring Kane back for fixtures with Swansea City and West Ham. That is surely a given.

Ignoring Kane for that upcoming pair of attractive fixtures seems untenable. He will be the most-captained for Gameweek 22 and, those with the Triple Captain chip in hand will surely consider putting it in play on the back of Kane’s confidence and devastating form.

Spurs Midfield stake their claim

Kane isn’t the only member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who warrants consideration ahead of the double-header.

Son Heung-min is building a convincing case.

The midfielder started his sixth straight match against Southampton and produced a goal, two assists and a bonus point for a second double-digit haul of that run.

In fact, Son has managed four goals and as many assists from those six matches and although he’s currently the fourth most bought player despite the blank Gameweek 21, he’s still only owned by 3.9%.

Previously far more popular, Dele Alli (11.5%) is also enjoying a min-revival.

He followed up his brace of assists at Burnley with two more, and a goal, against the Saints, with two bonus points pushing his Gameweek tally to a season’s best 15.

Son’s 8.0 price and his considerably more consistent recent form will ensure that the South Korean is favoured, with Alli reduced to an unlikely Gameweek 22 differential.

The same will probably apply to Christian Erisken. The Dane’s assist was dwarfed by other performances, but marked a fifth return in six Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, it remains difficult to justify investment in the Spurs defence.

Pochettino’s rotation policy concerning his wing-backs is now confusing everyone but him, with Serge Aurier (0.5%) handed a second straight start – and his third in four matches – as Kieran Trippier (5.8%) joined Ben Davies on the bench.

With the points potential of Spurs’ wing-backs now difficult to predict, the side’s lack of defensive stability – they’ve kept just two clean sheets since Gameweek 12 – further dampens the appeal of recruitment for the forthcoming double.

Best long term Burnley/Stoke defensive rotation option please?

Mee/Zouma (transferred in, in that order) ?

    Thanks

I wouldn't consider Zouma cheap at 5.4, returning just 3 CS so far.

Wouldn't it be more worthwile having a Brighton/Huddersfield defender even if they're not rotating perfectly with Burnley?

is it still worth bringing in Alonso now or maybe i am a bit late with the DGW around the corner? Need to save for the DGW but Alonso has been amazing so far. I expect his output to decrease though in the next 2 games.

    Pope Elliot
    Alonso Smalling Kenny Masuaku* Hunemeier*
    Hazard Salah Richarlison Choupo RLC
    Kane* Morata Abraham
    2ft 1.4m itb.
Have 3 players with zero and Smalling injury doubt.
    How is this plan?
    GW21: Pope->Lloris
    GW22: Hazard&Richarlison ->Alli&Arno
Or monitor Smalling, do similar to above but with 1 hit (or forget Lloris and no hit)?

if you have two frees perhaps - many would be losing value though and will probably result in an additional hit for the dgw

For me it would be 0.3 more expensive, and you spend extra transfer who you could use next week to add extra DGW players. You just have to trust in RLC or cheap defender this week.
But of course an option if you think your punt gets a brace.

Well I got Kane in three weeks ago so I sell for his full value of 12.9. I will wait and see whether Aguero starts this week. If not I think I'll get him in for a week.

I brought in Gomez of Liverpool who didn't play(Have Kenny coming in so not a disaster).

Anyone think that Gomez may come back in for the next game? I just feel if I swap to TAA I may just be snookered. I hink Gomez may well play as he is better defensively and Leicester are strong on LHS(Albrighton et al)

You are overthinking it. Games are close together, fullbacks get rotated a lot as it is a tiring position so the one who played last is not necessarily the preferred player and may be due his rest next. Gomez has played more minutes generally so stick with him.

Pickford has been in beast mode for 6 or 7 games now. Very tempted to downgrade DDG before the price rises & pocket 1.0 for elsewhere. Utd look very bad at the back these days.

I wonder will Christian Benteke throw his hat in the ring for a return to three strikers? He looked like he was ready to start scoring before his suspension

I’m surprised there has not been a Hot Topic on this already.
Are Kane owners selling this week and buying back for DGW?
In Jay’s words, it’s too much money on the bench, but does the transfer cost outweigh the ‘benchweight’?

No way I am selling. Paid 12.6 and he'll be much more expensive to bring back = not worth it!

And considering there will be lots of rotating this week I'd rather hold my transfer and hope for the best. Yes, there is a risk that I wont be able to field a complete 11 this week, but I can live with that...

Saving my transfer for the DGW will give me a slight edge I reckon.

Personally I hate seeing that much value on my bench and have saved 2FT for this week.
Kane to Crouch enables 5 big mids, then Morata to Kane next week.

personally im benching him and lanzini. I have one ft and want to save for the dgw to bring in someone for kdb. Seems pointless using my ft this week getting Kane out just to get him back in. Then there is the issue of him costing me 12.6 when i bought him and he could be worth 13 by tomorrow, cant afford that. I have Hegazi on my bench as my only sub so it will be fingers crossed.
