Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 36 – Sunday

Yaya Toure grabs a goal and assist upon his return from a groin injury as City end Palace’s winning run. A much-changed Chelsea blow the title race wide open with a resilient rearguard display at Anfield, whilst Connor Wickham bags a brace as Sunderland sweep aside Cardiff to climb out of the bottom three:

Toure Back in the Points
The Ivorian played a part in both City’s goals as Manuel Pellegrini’s side eased past Palace at Selhurst Park. Sold by over 500, 000 Fantasy Premier League managers after limping out of the first match of City’s double Gameweek 34, Toure’s immediate impact in yesterday’s vital win is set to get the bandwagon back underway ahead of next week’s pair of fixtures. Now down to 10.1, he faces Everton and Villa before a final day home encounter with West Ham, and with City’s bid for the title now firmly back in their own hands, we can expect Pellegrini to go on the attack as he looks to overhaul Liverpool at the summit.

Samir Nasri also chipped in with an assist to keep his tally ticking over. The Frenchman now has two goals and four assists in his last eight, but despite his consistent displays, some owners may still be eyeing up a swap for Toure – the latter’s 31-point haul in double Gameweek 31 is a reminder of his capabilities, whilst Nasri, by comparison, has managed just two sets of double figures all season.

Pellegrini Keeps Faith in a 4-4-2
Manuel Pellegrini continued with a two-man frontline for the trip to Selhurst Park as City ended the hosts’ five-match winning run. Edin Dzeko was handed the chance to partner Sergio Aguero once again, and whilst the latter drew a rare blank before being withdrawn on 78 minutes, the Bosnian justified his manager’s decision by scoring for the first time in four appearances. With Alvaro Negredo still struggling for form, Dzeko has now started each of the last two alongside Aguero and seems likely to retain his start for the double – priced at just 7.1, his 15% of owners may be persuaded to hold after yesterday’s impressive showing, though there’s no doubt Aguero and Toure will be the two main names on shopping lists this week.

Wickham the Black Cats’ Talisman
A brace from Connor Wickham took his tally to five goals in the last three Gameweeks as Sunderland’s great escape picked up pace. With an assist and maximum bonus also accrued in the 4-0 win over Cardiff, Wickham has now delivered 37 points in his last trio of appearances, and with a price tag of just 4.6, his exploits look certain to earn him plenty of new owners before next weekend’s double Gameweek deadline. Granted, the weekend trip to United is far from straightforward, but with a midweek home clash against West Brom and a Stadium of Light showdown against Swansea on the final day of the season, Wickham looks likely to play a major part in the last few fixtures for Gus Poyet’s side.

Borini and Giaccherini also in the Points
The Italian duo both chipped in with a goal and assist apiece in the rout. Borini benefitted from penalty duties for the second match in succession, having also slotted home a spot-kick in the win at Chelsea – priced at 6.2 and fielded on the left, though, he remains less likely to pick up new owners due to Wickham’s cheaper price tag and central role. Giaccherini’s contribution off the bench may be somewhat disconcerting for Adam Johnson owners ahead of the double, however. The latter served up a fifth successive blank yesterday, whilst Giacherrini has now produced a goal and three assists in three brief sub appearances – his displays may just persuade Poyet he is worthy of a starting berth, given Johnson’s comparative lack of form.

Bardsley on the Bench
Suspended for the previous two matches, the Black Cats full-back seems to have fallen down the pecking order after being handed a spot on the bench yesterday. Poyet opted for an unchanged defence and retained Santiago Vergini on the right of the back-four as Sunderland earned a first clean sheet since Gameweek 30. With an average of 4.6 points per game, Vito Mannone remains the best bet for those looking to invest in the Black Cats’ backline ahead of the double, though Marcos Alonso’s attacking threat is also an option – the 4.5-priced Spaniard looks the likeliest defender to deliver the points in light of Bardsley’s omission.

Jose Rings the Changes as Blues Shock Anfield
Earlier in the week, the Chelsea boss threatened to make sweeping changes to his starting XI for yesterday’s clash, and he was true to his word. With the second leg of the Champions League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid now only two days away, Jose Mourinho made seven alterations to his line-up, drafting in previously peripheral figures such as Tomas Kalas, John Obi-Mikel and Ashley Cole in a 4-3-3 formation. Despite the loss of Petr Cech and John Terry to injury, Mourinho dropped Gary Cahill to the bench yet still managed to defy the odds with a counter-attacking masterclass as Chelsea served up their seventeenth shut-out of the season. Those holding the Blues main assets will be somewhat worried by yesterday’s line-up, though – if the London club progress to the Champions League Final, Mourinho – whose side now see out the season with games against Norwich and Cardiff – could well be set to continue with his rotation policy in light of yesterday’s success.

Liverpool Stutter as Sturridge Returns
The Reds’ 11-match winning streak came crashing to an end as Luis Suarez and co failed to break down the Chelsea defensive wall. Cahill’s late introduction saw Mourinho switch to a five-man backline, and with no way through, Liverpool’s title chances were dealt a huge blow as Demba Ba and former Brendan Rodgers target Willian grabbed the goals. Daniel Sturridge was fit enough only for a second-half sub role after a recovering from a recent hamstring problem and the England star looks likely to return to the starting line-up for next weekend’s crucial trip to Selhurst Park – a move to the midfield diamond looks on the cards as the Merseysiders attempt to re-establish their position at the summit after yesterday’s morale-sapping display.

Getting Man U and Man City players on board is fine. But Liverpool and Arsenal will score lots of goals in the remaining games.

City with Wham in GW38 looks pretty good. Might drop a 3rd Utd player, if I get one for this week.

Crystal Palace is not an easy fixture for Liverpool and they don't concede many goals and are good at nullifying the main threat.

After I do Gerrard > Yaya, I'm pretty happy with my front 7 for the DGW (Yaya / Eriksen / Mata / Ramsey / Rooney(C) / Suarez / Dzeko)

Defence needs work though: Coleman / Zabaleta / Bardsley / Ward / Chester

I already have Mannone, so thinking of Bardsley > MUN def for a 4-pointer. Worth it? Who would you get?

Similar dilemma myself this morning. Norwich have little to offer upfront so the fact that Man U kept a CS doesn't necessarily mean they are solid again. Both SUN & HUL have more attacking threat.

My front 7 is the same, currently have no DGW defenders though. If it's your only hit then maybe worth a gamble as it should be made back in appearance points.

Cannot believe Suarez > Wickham might be the transfer to make, just a knee-jerk surely?

    Suarez: cpl / NEW

Wickham: mun / WBA / SWA

Crystal Palace don't concede a lot of goals at home, but Newcastle at home where they might need loads of goals just cannot be ignored. A lot of people I see would transfer Rooney > Suarez for gw38 alone which in my opinion, is a good option.

So will Suarez score in one game against Palace than Wickham will against mun/WBA, I'm not too sure. If your chasing, I would go for it but I wouldn't do as a part of hit unless the other player is Toure/other DGWer.

If your consolidating your positing in ML then stay exactly where you are!

If it comes down to goal difference, I think Liverpool will need about a 10-0 win against Newcastle, which might seem like a daunting task, even for Suarez. I'm keeping and captaining though.

Suarez > Wickham allows people to get in Yaya or Mata for the DGW though. Then Rooney > Suarez [c] against Newcastle the following week.

What could possibly go wrong? 🙂

Soo many people asking about United Defence...It is not clear now who will start! There are many factors effecting the selection like Rafael will be fit or not..Smalling, Evans will be given chance or not..only Friday's Press Conference will help in telling all that...In my personal Opinion..I belive

    DDG
    EVRA
    VIDIC

are the 3 safest choice as Giggs believes in Experience..Ferdinand is no way nailed on...hope this helps some of the people here..

    Back to the title race

City vs Everton (Away) - Tough fixture. EVE Will probably roll over to not give Liv the title

City vs Relegation threatened Villa - Villa need to win.

City vs West ham. I think WHam are safe so they could well roll over as well.

Liverpool vs Palace and Newcastle that have nothing to play for.

Mourinho really is a tactical genius. Told the Chelsea players to time waste during the 45 so that they can accumulate stoppage time and score goals then. I just don't know how he does it.

This is a bit of a convoluted way of looking at passing but it is interesting:

    http://www.statsbomb.com/2014/04/passing-impact-and-david-silva/

"In short, Silva’s passing impact is equivalent to almost an entire midfield of an average EPL team." 😯

Have a look at his budget now (2.3m) and then look at it after he makes his GW transfers and you should be able to calculate who he's brought in. You can then decide if you wanna get another differential or change your captain, etc.

Personally I would say 30 points isn't that much over a DGW and with a punt on last GW you can make it up so just play your natural game and pick the players/captaincy you think will score best.

I made that statement because I got a little annoyed at last weeks one :
" there is no player more deserving of a premier league title than Steven Gerrard "
It's simple the team that finishes top deserves he title and their players deserve the medals.
Sentiment counts for nothing IMO , don't mean it to be too harsh - I just want to balance up some of the ' deserving ' statements in here.

I see what you mean now, like Giggs 'deserved' Player of the Year because he was old and played for popular favourites.

Still, I think it's a bit harsh. Maybe 'deserved' isn't quite the right word, but I would say it would be 'fitting' if he did win that medal.

Another anomaly in the FPL stats.

Half way through the second half, Joe Hart was recorded on FPL as having made 2 saves.

On MOTD last night they showed the final action in the game. Joe Hart, standing on his goal line, caught a speculative long range punt from a Palace player. The ref then blew the final whistle.

    Why are people mentioning RVP?

What kind of minutes can he get coming from injury? WC around the corner, would he be risked just for Giggs to have a good run-in?

All I want from FPL is Gnu's barbour Jacket in the Wigan to Me H2H. Now, like my own team, it looks like I've f**ked it with 2 games to go.

I didn't know there was a prize. I'd have tried harder if I'd known that.

I was shocked too when he emailed me the other day. The pressure got to me then. Lukaku to Rooney. It was such a no brainer yet I didn't do it.

Ah tis still there. Jonty should go top tonight with a better pts total then it's down to the last 2 Gws. Had a 12 pt lead there at one stage.

    Ello all...

    Mannone (Davies)
    Azpil, Demi, Evra, (Distin) (Ward)
    Mata, Nasri, Ramsey, Sterling (Puncheon)
    Rooney, Aguero, Suarez

Looking at +8 to swap Nasri and Puncheon to Yaya & 4.0

I'm tied at the top of my league, rival has no Man Utd but has Nasri, Aguro and Dzeko. Guessing he wont lose Nasri so should I push on and gamble or mirror Nasri....????

    Ta!
