When fit, Sergio Aguero is one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League. With Stoke visiting in Gameweek 3 he has a great fixture but less than one in ten Fantasy Premier League managers own him. Here I assess why he is such a great punt for this week. I have also included two other punts for those looking for something different.
The Case for Sergio Aguero
The Manchester City forward has only played a total of 31 minutes so far this season. 8 minutes in GW 1 and 23 in GW 2, yet he has already scored a goal in each week! Taking only 23 seconds to score from the bench against Liverpool, it looks like this man can score against anyone in the matter of seconds. Yet he only has a 6.6% ownership.
As his manaer Manuel Pellegrini said his minutes will increase as the weeks go by, so he can only get more time on the pitch against Stoke. A side that looks weaker than Man City’s last two opponents. Stoke have looked a shambles at the back this season, and with Aguero tending to come on late on in games, when defences are usually tired and lacking concentration. Aguero could be set to rack up the points once again in GW 3 even if he fails to start.
Members can have a look at this interesting table that takes a look at the numbers of the three City Forwards. Aguero’s stats are extraordinary considering the time he has had on the pitch compared to the other two forwards. This has strongly influenced my decision to include him on this list.
Aguero has already enticed 45,121 managers to draft him in this week, and this number is set to increase as rumours of a Costa injury go around. It is likely that Aguero will continue his goalscoring form, especially against a disappointing Stoke side who have lost both their games so far. Will you be enticed? Or will you stay away from the man known for his “glass hammies”?
Other Gameweek 3 Punts
Daryl Janmaat
The £5m signing from Feyenoord is proving to be a great addition to the Newcastle squad with fantastic performances in the opening two weeks of the Premier League. The Dutch right back is almost a like-for-like replacement for Debuchy, who is known for his marauds down the right flank.
The right back had a tremendous game against Aston Villa, registering the highest number of goal attempts for the Magpies, with some of them coming from close range. Also picking up 2 bonus points along with 4 points for a clean sheet, Jaanmat is now sitting on 8 points for his season total thus far. He also had a number of other impressive stats which members can access here .
Owned by a meagre 2.8% of FPL players, the Newcastle signing looks like a great punt for this week. Facing an out of sorts Palace side at St. James’ Park, I believe Janmaat has a great chance of getting returns at both ends of the pitch.
Mauro Zárate
The other Premier League newbie on this list is Mauro Zarate. The new West Ham man looks to have settled in nicely, and has already notched for the Hammers, scoring a long range strike on his Premier League debut. The Argentinian also finished the game with an outstanding pass completion rate of 92.9%.
This GW, West Ham welcome Southampton to Upton Park. The Saints kept out the Baggies last weekend, but I fancy the Hammers to come away from this game with at least a goal. West Ham have looked good going forward the past 2 weeks, with the stats providing evidence for this. The Attacking Teams table by Wakey, reveals just how attacking they have been in the last two game weeks.
The Argentinian forward sits on an incredibly low ownership of 1.1%, and looks like a good pick for that 3rd forward slot. I predict the Hammers will continue the goal scoring form they showed against Palace, and come away with a goal or two against Southampton, and if anyone is going to score for West Ham, it’ll be this man, Mauro Zarate.
