Sergio Aguero – The King of the Gameweek 3 Punts

When fit, Sergio Aguero is one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League. With Stoke visiting in Gameweek 3 he has a great fixture but less than one in ten Fantasy Premier League managers own him. Here I assess why he is such a great punt for this week. I have also included two other punts for those looking for something different.

The Case for Sergio Aguero

The Manchester City forward has only played a total of 31 minutes so far this season. 8 minutes in GW 1 and 23 in GW 2, yet he has already scored a goal in each week! Taking only 23 seconds to score from the bench against Liverpool, it looks like this man can score against anyone in the matter of seconds. Yet he only has a 6.6% ownership.

As his manaer Manuel Pellegrini said his minutes will increase as the weeks go by, so he can only get more time on the pitch against Stoke. A side that looks weaker than Man City’s last two opponents. Stoke have looked a shambles at the back this season, and with Aguero tending to come on late on in games, when defences are usually tired and lacking concentration. Aguero could be set to rack up the points once again in GW 3 even if he fails to start.

Members can have a look at this interesting table that takes a look at the numbers of the three City Forwards. Aguero’s stats are extraordinary considering the time he has had on the pitch compared to the other two forwards. This has strongly influenced my decision to include him on this list.

Aguero has already enticed 45,121 managers to draft him in this week, and this number is set to increase as rumours of a Costa injury go around. It is likely that Aguero will continue his goalscoring form, especially against a disappointing Stoke side who have lost both their games so far. Will you be enticed? Or will you stay away from the man known for his “glass hammies”?

Other Gameweek 3 Punts

Daryl Janmaat

The £5m signing from Feyenoord  is proving to be a great addition to the Newcastle squad with fantastic performances in the opening two weeks of the Premier League. The Dutch right back is almost a like-for-like replacement for Debuchy, who is known for his marauds down the right flank.

The right back had a tremendous game against Aston Villa, registering the highest number of goal attempts for the Magpies, with some of them coming from close range. Also picking up 2 bonus points along with 4 points for a clean sheet, Jaanmat is now sitting on 8 points for his season total thus far. He also had a number of other impressive stats which members can access here .

Owned by a meagre 2.8% of FPL players, the Newcastle signing looks like a great punt for this week. Facing an out of sorts Palace side at St. James’ Park, I believe Janmaat has a great chance of getting returns at both ends of the pitch.

Mauro Zárate

The other Premier League newbie on this list is Mauro Zarate. The new West Ham man looks to have settled in nicely, and has already notched for the Hammers, scoring a long range strike on his Premier League debut. The Argentinian also finished the game with an outstanding pass completion rate of 92.9%.

This GW, West Ham welcome Southampton to Upton Park. The Saints kept out the Baggies last weekend, but I fancy the Hammers to come away from this game with at least a goal. West Ham have looked good going forward the past 2 weeks, with the stats providing evidence for this. The Attacking Teams table by Wakey, reveals just how attacking they have been in the last two game weeks.

The Argentinian forward sits on an incredibly low ownership of 1.1%, and looks like a good pick for that 3rd forward slot. I predict the Hammers will continue the goal scoring form they showed against Palace, and come away with a goal or two against Southampton, and if anyone is going to score for West Ham, it’ll be this man, Mauro Zarate.

Indeed! Really back Janmaat and Zarate this week. Left out Ings and Ideye, but didn't want too many forwards. De Jong would've been another good one.

We should keep doing this and keep score? 😀

Submitted my article last night, and thought you might shout for plagiarism once mine was published, since yours came out first 😆

I've been struggling with my midfielders tbh! Seems so hard to find a porper punt there.

And ik Jonty was editing this morning so I don't fear any copying 😉

De Jong would've been a nice pick this week! Preferred Zarate to him though. Apparently, Siem didn't look too good against Gillingham though.

Good luck for GW 3 mate.

Reasons why he's a bad punt:

    - He's expensive at 12m
    - He's injury prone
    - He isn't fully fit yet
    - Jovetic is cheaper

No there is only one reason - fitness.
You get what you pay for though with Aguero, an elite forward.

All the above are what makes him a punt 🙂

But, if that's your opinion then that's fine by me. This article is based on mine.

      Thanks for the input CrystalBall.

Sure it's a game of opinions and yes agreed, that's why he's a punt. I'm prepared to eat my words come 5pm tomorrow

Thanks for the wonderful editing, Jonty. Put it together really nicely, so it didn't end up just a replication of ThePuntMaster's article. Thank you.

No worries . Wanted to make them offer something distinct and I liked the aguero as some kind of super punt angle given his ability, but possibility of diminished minutes.

Going on Costa is injured maybe rid Costa. That said, you have Sturridge already. I'm an United Supporter and watched both of United's games thus far, Rooney has been awful, as has the whole team. But the fixtures are with him. If you can get Sterling in for Nasri I would do that first.

The thing is though, with the major games they have coming up i.e. arsenal then chelsea and an international break, why would he risk his injury prone player in a home game with one of the most physical teams in the league who they should beat comfortably. Ive went for Jovetic, hes gonna start and with 2 goals in his last match he hopefully bags another 1 or 2 his value will go up and people who have drafted him in rather than restructuring their whole team to accommodate him are laughing in the long run.

Word of caution with West Ham as their overall attacking stats are slightly inflated after playing
        v. 10 Spurs players for the lion's share of the match.

Here is a repost from much earlier in the week. Hope you like it!

My lessons learned for the season so far...

Lesson 1 - don't let your opinions be swayed by Scout Picks!
Lesson 2 - act quickly to correct obvious errors.
Lesson 3 - create your own bandwagons

Lesson 1 - All pre-season I had Siggy and a cheap 4.5 defender (who didn't play) with zero in the bank (that's a mistake too). When Scout Picks arrived for GW1 I transferred out the cheap defender and Siggy and transferred in Caulker and Mutch. After Sunday games I stood around 2.2m. After Monday (Chelsea game) I finished the gameweek around 920k. My worst ever start in FPL!

Lesson 2 - I immediately corrected my GW1 error - cost 4 points - transferred out Caulker and Mutch and transferred in Siggy (before his price rise) and Amat. I finished GW2 around 109k.

Lesson 3 - After the Man City thrashing of Liverpool I transferred out Coutnho and Rooney and bought Chadli and Aguero (cost 4 points). That's my bandwagon prediction for this week!

Best way to get young out my team.... 2ft

        A) Young + terry > siggy + dier

        B) Young + Sturridge > siggy + balotelli

        C) Young + Sturridge > bentaleb + Arguero
