Metro Tips From The Scout

If you missed my star-studded debut – read: nervous – with Mark and Granville on the Scoutcast back in episode 37 (you can find the latest episode here) then you will also have missed out on a nugget of news that we feel deserves a sneaky mention.

We decided to take on the much derided FPL pundit this season, as myself and Fantasy Football Scout adopted a similar role over at the Metro game. Mauro Boselli probably didn’t provide the most illustrious start to this new branch in our career, but we quickly bounced back in Gameweek Two tipping Andy Carroll and Gareth Bale ahead of their big returns.

However, that was then and this is now and with Gameweek Eight about to kick-off, our next set of options are on the table over on the Metro website

These are but six of the players on the radar this time around – three weekly bankers we feel are more assured some returns, two punts that may be off the beaten track and one player who’s past performances merit a shout-out – with many players close to consideration just falling short.

Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas was earmarked for a spot as a banker, but Arsene Wenger’s recent comments put the kybosh on that; team-mate Andrei Arshavin ran him close as a frequent point scorer in the Metro game and Dimitar Berbatov also falls just an inch short this week. While on the punt front, the midfield triumvirate of Matt Jarvis (with a potentially interesting game at home to West Ham), Charles N’Zogbia (making a visit to his old stomping ground of St. James Park) and Mikel Arteta (in a hotly contested derby that cries out for one of his dazzling free-kicks) were all pushing for a place but, ultimately, were just sneaked out.

Metro Managers can go take a look our final tips selection here.

Right - I was set before the Drogba news, and now I'm not.

Can't transfer him, as have had him for ages and the price difference will kill me.

That said, my bench is now Drogba (i), Kuyt (i), A. Johnson (rotation), and I'm having to play 5 defenders:

    Konchesky, Jones, Dann, Elmo, Faye

I have a transfer, so I'm minded to get rid of Kuyt, but who should I go for? Or am I being silly and should I just stick with the 5 at the back/stick Johnson in and hope for another wonder goal from the bench?

    Stupid flu!

yeah - my thoughts exactly. To be honest, I was only holding onto the transfer as I reckon I'm going to need to do some surgery to the team in the not too distant. It was a toss-up between Nasri and VDV...

    RM WC team:

    Foster, Krul

    A. Cole, Samba, Elmohamady, Alcaraz, Jara

Malouda, Nani, Arteta, Van Der Vaart, Albrighton

    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

Fabregas’ fitness situation is really annoying, and with Drogba out too, I’ll probably have to play Albrighton. O well…

That's what I'm sort of worried about.

But, a lot can change in 2 weeks. Fabregas might pick up another knock and get sidelined for a month. Pinning all my hopes on getting him in for GW 10 could really ruin my team.

I'm sat on exactly the same dilemma

Cole and (Nasri for me) with 0.8 banked
              to
              Fabragas and a cheap defender

Its not so much the gamble on Fabs fitness, its getting rid of Cole (I'll never get him back in if I ditch him)

Very similar to my team so i'm a fan. Only thing i would say is that if i was using my wildcard getting Fab in would be a priority - obviously you won't want for this week now, but how are you going to get him in when he's fit again?

I only ask because i've been thinking about how to get him in my team and can't see a way without crippling it - probably gonna make do with RVP or Walcott until i use my wildcard.

        Easy to get Fabregas in.

        Save a transfer next week.

        Then do:

Cole + Arteta > Fabregas + Coleman (or another 4.4 mid)

My original WC team was Fabregas and Coleman instead of Cole and Arteta, but Fabs' injury ruined that plan.

People planning on benching him or leaving him in the 11 on the offchance he comes on to do soemthing?

Don't reallly know the situation, but if it's the kinda thing where he'd only be brought on if Chelsea need to rescue something then it might be worth leaving him on?

Woops - missed the new thread...

Right, I’m happy I didn’t transfer Malouda out for Fabs, a little peeved with the Drogba news (along with a million others tho) so I’m left with fixing my defence…

      shawx samba jags dann vandamme

      1) Thinking about Coleman maybe? but who to take out?
      or
      2) Bring Elmo back in?

Any thoughts are always appreciated…(have 1 transfer)

cant stand the f**ker. even looking at downing. i stuck 20 on villa earlier at 5.2, i can just see a win this weekend, and young or downing will be central. would be a BIG punt instead of Nasri indeed...

WC is a bit of a nightmare really, can't decide on anything, and will wait till tomorrow morning to make some really tough calls, Rooney thing is bothering me, to the point where I might just stick Berb in

So my bench atm consists of Drogba, Alex and Y. Toure and I'm being forced to play Jara @ United.

      Hahn
      Konchesky - ShawX - Enrique - Jara
      Malouda - Nani (C) - Dempsey - VDV
      Berbatov - Carrol

Bench: Foster - Toure - Drogs - Alex

Already taken a 4 point hit this week but should I consider taking another one in bringing someone else in for Yaya? I reckon Jara will put up a 1 pointer so I figure it would be worth the gamble?

Yeah everyone has the same question.

I went for Arteta, and upgraded my defense.

So does a weakened Chelsea, both at the front and back, plus him being unlikely to play next week, make Malouda the more obvious one to drop for Nani than Gerrard?

Are Alex or Konchesky actually going to play this week? I have them both in my defence. If they both don't play, I'll definitely have Jara coming in away against Man Utd. :/

      Jussi
      Alex Konchesky Jones
Bale Malouda N'Zog Dempsey Nani (c)
      Torres Carroll

      Foster, Shawcross, Jara, Drogba.

      ?

We have almost identical defenses. Alex won't play but Konchesky looks like he will be fit to start. I may also be forced to play Jara unless I take another hit. I've chosen to play Shawcross though I really didn't have much choice!

Yeah, will just leave it then. Really need Konchesky to start though.

What's your thoughts on GW8 team?

      Krul (Foster)
      Mummy Alcaraz Perch
      Adam Bale Malouda VDV Nani
      Carroll Berbatov(c)

      Subs: Dann Jara Drogba

Tomorrow I hope to know more re: Alcaraz. Dann comes in if he won't make it.
Berbatov as captain may still change to Nani.

Think it looks pretty good! Having same dilemma with Nani vs. Berba but ultimately think I'll go with Nani in the end. But then again...

The reason why I've gone for Berbatov is because he scored against them 2 seasons ago... ok maybe a bit mad but also... he's has a freshen up with no international matches and WBA have conceded 6 goals to forwards already this season and only I think 1 (or maybe 0) to midfielders...

But you could argue Nani is in better form.

Might have a point about Berba having no international games tbh. Nani definitely is in better form and whether he scores or not will definitely be involved in the play. Berba of old has had tendency to just disappear from matches sometimes and I'm afraid that might be the case. Think Nani might be the SLIGHTLY safer option which is saying a lot since we're talking about Mr. Inconsistency himself lol. But then again if Berba bags a hat-trick tomorrow I'll be shanking myself hehe
