Metro Tips From The Scout

If you missed my star-studded debut – read: nervous – with Mark and Granville on the Scoutcast back in episode 37 (you can find the latest episode here) then you will also have missed out on a nugget of news that we feel deserves a sneaky mention.

We decided to take on the much derided FPL pundit this season, as myself and Fantasy Football Scout adopted a similar role over at the Metro game. Mauro Boselli probably didn’t provide the most illustrious start to this new branch in our career, but we quickly bounced back in Gameweek Two tipping Andy Carroll and Gareth Bale ahead of their big returns.

However, that was then and this is now and with Gameweek Eight about to kick-off, our next set of options are on the table over on the Metro website

These are but six of the players on the radar this time around – three weekly bankers we feel are more assured some returns, two punts that may be off the beaten track and one player who’s past performances merit a shout-out – with many players close to consideration just falling short.

Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas was earmarked for a spot as a banker, but Arsene Wenger’s recent comments put the kybosh on that; team-mate Andrei Arshavin ran him close as a frequent point scorer in the Metro game and Dimitar Berbatov also falls just an inch short this week. While on the punt front, the midfield triumvirate of Matt Jarvis (with a potentially interesting game at home to West Ham), Charles N’Zogbia (making a visit to his old stomping ground of St. James Park) and Mikel Arteta (in a hotly contested derby that cries out for one of his dazzling free-kicks) were all pushing for a place but, ultimately, were just sneaked out.

Metro Managers can go take a look our final tips selection here.

Nothing last season, 2 the season before.

Not sure it's as good as the Drogba vs Arsenal level but if you have him, you'll obviously play him anyway.

Still get him for next week. Do you really want to back a Wigan defender this gameweek away to Newcastle? A wildcard should see you good for weeks not just this one.

Might not mean much to most of you but former Citeh boss Malcolm Allison died earlier today. He was a good coach but a disastrous manager spending ludicrous amounts of dosh on average players like Kevin Reeves, Steve Daley. History repeating itself some might say.

I have a few questions - all answers appriciated:

    - Is Fabregas out of the squad tomorrow?
    - Has there been any word from Moyes on if Coleman will start tomorrow?
    - I take it Konchesky has been training, but any word on whether he's 'ready' or 'looking good' etc?
    - Is Drogba DEFINATELY out of the squad tomorrow?

i havent taken any hits yet so 2 this weeks, i think:

alex > jose enrique (will get bosingwa when hes back)
    dejong > nani
    torres > berbatov

    giving me:
    jaask
    jose, oshea, richards, konch (foley)
    nani, bale, maloud, davies (ferg)
    tevez, berb (drog)

    what do u guys think?

Argh.. I really can't decide whether to keep Torres now or bin him off.

Everton defence looks suspect without Jags n Yobo.

to stick or twist. that is the question.

How about this team? Very weak back and doubled up newcastle defence 0.1m in the bank

    Gilks / Krul
    Enrique, (Gohouri), (Jara), Coleman, Elmo
    Malouda, Nani, Nasri, VDV, Adam
    (Drogba), Tevez, Berb

Repost - someone else must want to know this too though....

Is Drogba not in the squad or just not in the starting 11?

People planning on benching him or leaving him in the 11 on the offchance he comes on to do soemthing?

Don’t reallly know the situation, but if it’s the kinda thing where he’d only be brought on if Chelsea need to rescue something then it might be worth leaving him on?

Not in the squad apparently. Same as Fabs. Either way, if they're in the squad or not is elementary... if you're prepared to risk either coming on for 5 minutes by leaving them in your 1st XI, then if they're not in the squad, auto-sub will do the job for you!

i agree with the analysis minded approach, if anything, them playing a similar setup in the champion's league means they might be slightly more comfortable in this game.

reviewed the live commentary and shots/passes and i think id be pretty confident going with either... i hate coinflips.

must feel good and scary, a whole new world, I think the whole "it will cost me too much to get him back in" argument only goes so far, yes, you lose value, but Rooney/Torres/Tevez whoever you replace him with this weekend could (I am using the word could) get a hattrick, rise by a couple of million whereby you have to pay .3 more on Drogba than you had to from the start.

I am nearly 95% sure of getting rid of Drogba for a few weeks anyway, ill deal with the loss on him in due course, that's what makes this game fun, it is a game after all

its tempting man, but its Hcup. and both home teams are strong and want to win. Id be tempted by cardiff but parks and a couple of others are out. French are at home and very strong....im lookin at 50 quid willhill both home teams 1-12 to be honest. Ospreys im more confident of than castres, but cardiff were pretty battered last week too, twas a tough tough game.

when in doubt, my intuition and experience tells me home team . osp[reys are unlikely to batter LIrish, and Cardiff are gonna be searching for a bonus point.

go for it though man, the 1-12 for the two away teams 1-12 is a mouthwatering 12.5/1!

Coin Flip - I can see them having very similar scores come the end of the season. Both good picks IMHO. Really depends who else you have for Man Utd or City 'coverage' i.e. Nani etc -- I have Tevez over Berbs mainly due to the fact that I already have Nani and that means Carlos gives me City coverage and offers another captaincy option...

I covered this a while ago - it honestly depends on his form. If he plays well then he will have at least a 4 week or further spell. If he throws one in, or gives away a penno (like he has been close to doing) he might not last 2 wk's. He's a risk from that perspective, but I have seen enough to say that if you can't afford Elmo then Seamus is worth a punt

We had initially thought 2-3 games on here. News on Fellaini's injury has filtered through now which I think means it could be extended, here is why:

      (1) Neville, who has been playing RB can shift to DM role, leaving RB spot open. That being said, Heitinga can play DM but following his recent comments about a switch in January, I wonder if his days are numbered at Everton;

      (2) Hibbert is also back from injury and can fill RB spot for next few weeks while Coleman plays RW for the injured Pienaar;

      (3) When Pienaar comes back, Coleman will be in direct competition with Hibbert for RB and after Moye's recent comments on Coleman I fancy the Irishman. so I see at least a month until Coleman may return to the bench.

In reality, it is all open to speculation, but I would be pretty confident you will get at least 3-4 GW's out of him, before you have to worry about replacing him (and 2 of those GW's are nice)

Logged on todat to find my bench will consist of Alex, Drogba, Fabregas.

Brilliant. Thank god I have 3 playing subs. I hate this game, what happened to the days I would be overjoyed to find Drogba ill and Fabs struggling? GADDAMMIT!!!

What are the chances that Van Damme will play this weekend?

And which transfer in would be more appealing.. Elmo or Coleman?

He played for Belgium I think during the break, so he is fit, but I still only see him playing a bit part, 40-50 minutes. Elmo is more of a long term switch, so I would say Elmo

        Thanks Johnny Unitas,

I know i should go with your advice and think long term...
...just have a good feeling about Coleman.

        ...tossing coin *sigh

Doesn't look like it sadly. Struggling to find fitness for the weekend.

I'm thinking of doing the following:

    Almunia -> Van Der Sar

    Gerrard -> Nasri

I have two free transfers. Would anyone take a look at my team and see what they think of these transfers?

I have Toure already, dont like having more than one player from any one team in my back 7..

Going against the grain slightly I know, but I would actually go for Arshavin over Nasri. Nothing concrete to back it up, just a feeling - I think he could score well over the next few weeks and Cesc is back next week to reduce Nasri's influence...

Feck ya! Was all set to do Gerrard to Nasri, now i'm not so sure.. Youve given me something to think about!

Am I crazy to go Torres captain? In a normal week I'd be thinking no way but with no Drogs or Fabs playing..

Yeah, Torres is no no for me until he proves otherwise. See you have Nani, he would be a safer bet imo.

You're considering captaining the man you're also considering selling? Not exactly confident are ya?! Just captain Nani.

So Fabregas is not playing as he is a little bit short. Great, just great.

      yeah funny, I noticed that.

guess that mean Wilshere, Arshavin and Nasri are unavailable aswell.

Oh dear.. no Alex or Drogba leaves me calling on the dregs of my team, looks like im set up as

    Robinson
    O'Shea, Faye, Elmo
    Malouda, Albrighton, VDV, Ferguson, Nani
    Tevez, Berbatov

Subs: Carson, Dann, (Alex & Drogba)

It's okay but not great, surely not worth taking a point hit to change something there right?

Think I'll be stubborn and leave Drogba in my team for later automatic sub from the bench. Just don't believe news any more til it happens.

my thoughts exactly. Fabs is still in too, and Alex. Why the hell not, been caught out by evangelising managers too often before
