The Watchlist – Morten Gamst Pedersen

Three wins in their last four league games means Blackburn Rovers once-stuttering season is now firmly back on track, with Morten Gamst Pedersen, in particular, being pivotal to their recent resurgence. The Norwegian has scored four in four for Sam Allardyce’s men, including a brace against Aston Villa on Sunday, and all of this after getting punched in the heart by Joey Barton.

Pedersen’s recent outstanding form has allowed him to sneak up the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings somewhat un-noticed. Priced at £5.7m, he costs the same as Charlie Adam and has, like the Blackpool playmaker, also scored 65 FPL points, yet Adam has been selected by a whopping 18.1% of Fantasy Managers in comparison to Pedersen’s meagre ownership of 1.7%. The Norwegian’s credentials as a real “differential” is shown by the fact that his FPL points total also tops the far more popular (and equally-priced) Fantasy selections such as Matthew Etherington, Charles N’Zogbia and Chris Brunt.

Outwith a difficult trip to Old Trafford this upcoming weekend, fixtures are certainly on Blackburn’s side right now; from Gameweek 16 their next five games (WOL, bol, WHM, STK, wba) are all definitely winnable. A good run of form before the New Year would push Rovers up from mid-table mediocrity and perhaps persuade the club’s new Indian owners to splash the cash in the January transfer window, which would surely be the perfect Christmas present for Big Sam.

Pedersen is bound to be a vital participant in this potentially significant run and is in irresistible form, picking up 9 FPL bonus points in his last 4 games. The player himself has identified the spurt in form to a change of position that has seen him come in from the left-flank to a more central role.

“I’m playing in a different position now, more central rather than out wide as I played five years ago…It’s going well for me and that’s five goals in five games if you include the international match last Wednesday. It’s hard to say what has happened, but I worked hard to turn things round. Now I’m really looking forward to that next game at United”

Pedersen goes to United having scored a brace in a Rovers victory back in 2005. While a repeat performance may be too much to ask, Pedersen is undboutedly on a high and continued returns after the United game look a strong possibility.

“.”

    So, that's:

    Brunt - highly doubtful
    Emerton - late test
    VDV - 50:50 at best
    Bramble - out
    Fabs - out

    Lovely jubly!

        I'm loking at 12:

Krul > Hart (been wanting to do it for weeks)
        Fab > Lee
        Brunt > Jarvis
        Bramble > Vidic

        Clean slate and all that.....

I think you'll regret taking such hits for defensive players, Vidic with United's fixtures may just be worth a hit but it's seriously unlikely. Hart certainly not.

Thanks, but I've been wanting to get a big keeper in for the last month. This is about the best week to do it in as Krul and Carson both have bad fixtures. I have a transfer I want to do next week, and undoubtedly I'll need to do somethign the week after etc etc....

Forget any Liverpool biase on my part but how does this sound for the next 5-6 GW's?

    Fabs > Kuyt
    Coleman > Kolarov

This will leave be with a very risky triplet of Torres, Kuyt & Konch but with fixtures of tot,VILLA,newc,FUL,blackpool,WOLVES i fancy some returns all round.

And of course if it goes tits up i just transfer Torres to Tevez/RVP/Rooney!

Or should it be Fabs > Cahill until he goes for 6 weeks then Cahill > Kuyt?

    Head f*ck.

I am thinking of taking the change on Kuyt but my rival does have Cahill already. Having the money upfront means its going to be nice and easy for you to get Rooney if he finds last seasons form which could prove handy but you would imagine Torres will be able to bag a few over the next 4-5 weeks.

Is anyone else finding that Tim Cahill just isn't setting their world on fire? True, he's scored a lot of goals recently, but I wouldn't want just that in a mid, and its never more than 1 per game. With not much in the way of boni I'm finding him a little uninspiring at the price. Thoughts?

I have to disagree. I'm not sure what more you can expect from a midfielder below £10m.

He has scored 7 goals, is joint 3rd top scorer in the premiership and ispretty much playing up front. He played very well vs Sunderland and was a constant threat.

I think that you can spread the funds through out the team now.

Fabregas will certainly miss the next 2 fixtures and most probably return for the match against MUN. After that they also have CHE & MCY in their next 5 which brings you to the January Wild Card.

If he is back, fully fit and tearing it up, he can be brought in then imo.

I'm going to risk it and spread the funds 🙂

I've subbed Fabregas to Kuyt and used the extra money to upgrade Carroll to Rooney for a 4 point hit.

Liverpool's fixtures are good, Hodgson has starting playing two up front and very few people have Kuyt was my motivation.

Spurs away is a tough fixture this gameweek but then things get easier for Liverpool. This transfer is for the medium term, not the short term.

Man Utd v Blackburn 2009/10 report here. Not sure what use it is to decisions today but does indicate that even a below par Man Utd should be able to squeeze a couple past Blackburn.

would anyone care to give me their thoughts on this DF for this week please. Im not sure if i need to spend some money this week but I really want to do fabs >> cahill and dont want too many more hits (taken too many already!)

    foster, dann,vidic, coleman (jara, konch)

not sure on playing konch at the lane, but if VDV is definitely out i might put him in instead of dann.

Would you keep this as is or spend some cash (coleman >> kolarov maybe)??

Aghh! Can' decide between Nasri or Bale for replacing Fabs! Who do you think will score more this weekend? Bale vs Liverpool (h) or Nasri vs Aston Villa (a)?

    Thanks

What to do if VDV isn't fit for Liverpool? Ride it out with NZogbia coming in as a sub or swap him straight out for Bale?

Plan to get Vidic in thhis week for Bosingwa but could go Bale instead..

    Suggestions?

I think Bosingwa is about to embark on a really good run for Chelsea - I reckon Carlos has gently been feeding him back in post injury and he will be first choice right back moving forwards. hope so anyway!

Think this week may be bad for me, got one free transfer, current team:

    Foster (Krul)
    Kolarov Alex Elmo (Givet, Simpson)
    Nani VDV Adam Nzog (Fabs)
    Drogs(c) Carroll Tevez

    Should I:
    a) Fabs to Cahill
b£ Elmo to Konch (Spurs hangover?)

Everton fans, or talented sooth sayers, do you think Cole'lol'man is going to start for Everton? It's him or Carroll for a starting berth.

Dunno, Alex and Ivan the terrible are pretty solid. Carlo will never be stupid enough to make the same mistake again starting Ferr at CB.
