Introducing The ICT Scout Index

Yesterday we launched the ICT Scout Index for our Members. This is immediately viewable via the dashboard on login, with top 10’s displayable for both the current Gameweek and the season as a whole. Obviously, right now, this is based on last season’s data.

Read on for more details on what the ICT Index brings to our Members’ offering…

What is the ICT Scout Index?

Basically this is a football index created specifically to assess a player in Fantasy terms. It uses the statistical data already available to Members to create a single score for three key areas – Influence, Creativity and Threat. These scores then combine to create a single ICT Scout Index score.

In basic terms the ICT index will help to make our statistics easier to digest. The individual index scores help to measure a player’s importance to their team and to a match (Influence), a player’s likelihood to earn assists (Creativity) and to score goals, or at least get in goalscoring situations (Threat).

Index scores will be generated on a gameweek basis and cumulatively over the season for all players. All the usual statistics are available, but Members now have an easy route to identify how players are performing across the key statistics – they can go straight in now and start analysing players based on last season’s data.

The index, like any football index, will require tweaking as we go. Even so, we feel that it’s a valuable addition for our Members and offers us plenty of material to discuss in a series of new weekly Members articles.

How Can I View the ICT Scout Index?

In addition to the Top 10 standings on the Members dashboard, the full index is available within the Fantasy Index tab for Player Stats. You can view the index by position or for all players.

By default this offers a cumulative view of the Index totals – however, Members can also slice the data by a given gameweek or a range of gameweeks and view average Index scores per appearance using the Advance Filter Options.

The Player Profiles (available by clicking on any player), also offer a complete Gameweek by Gameweek breakdown of a players’ Index score. Using this, you can analyse trends and assess how a player is developing in terms of Fantasy potential as the season progresses.

We will of course, use such breakdowns in our regular articles to help you identify those players in form according to their ICT Scout Index scores.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Schwarzer (Ruddy)
    Lescott Kompany Enrique (Alcaraz Gabbidon)
    Silva(C) Nani Taarabt Moses (Tiote)
    Carroll(V) Drogba Gervinho

Any suggested improvements? Considered Lescott>R.Johnson with Alcaraz starting to have 1.5 in bank.

Kompany - Smalling - Ekotto (Brown - Simpson)
Nani - Nzogbia - Silva - Taaravt (Moses)

I took Van Persie out and reworked my team as he caught an injury. Personally I'm going to leave him out during week one and see how he fares.

      Just a comment from a n00b.

I'd do Smalling and A-Ekotto to Hughes/Enrique/Jagielka. You might want another big-hitter up front.

        Will Smalling play 90?
If i do that i can fit Gervinho for Zamora...but it's a double up. I'm hoping for a Zamora - Suarez swap as soon as he's fit.

Hi there. Anyone care to rate my team before i go to bed? I would like to feel that the last 6 hours have somehow been productive..

    Schwartzer (Ruddy)
    Kompany Riise Enrique (Ekotto Naughton)
    Silva Downing Taarabt Young (Moses)
    Hoilett Zamora(vc) Persie(C)

    0.00 Available Funds.

Enrique is there in the hope he plays for Liverpool, will be keeping a close eye on that. Ekotto is there beacause he looks a nice price, plus i will have at least 1 player for their double week. Also, the fact i've pretty much run out of steam tonight..

I like the rest..any critique welcome..

My thinking was Nani at WBA should be better than Chelsea at Stoke. Don't think you can go wrong with either in your team, but Malouda seems to have better fixtures after GW1.
And there is the slight probability that Malouda won't start whereas Nani is nailed on for the starting 11.

Say you have a player selected by 1% of managers. He scores 10 points in a match then you've just gained 10 points on 99% of managers.
On the flip side if he does sod all than you've essentially lost ground to 99% of managers.

Right folks, finishing my team now as I won't have internet for the next few days. Reasonably happy with it.

    Schwarzer, (Ruddy/ Vorm if he's 4m)
Cole, Lescott, Dunne (Orr, N Taylor/De Laet if i get Vorm)
    Malouda, N'Zogbia, Taarabt, Ramsey, Moses
    RVP(c), Carroll, Holt

Would love to squeeze Drogba in but it's only possible by downgrading Cole which is risky, don't wanna sacrifice anyone else.

Not gonna ask anyone to rate as i'm happy enough with it but wouldn't mind opinions on the most reliable £4m boys from QPR and Swansea.

I've knocked up a team which I'm fairly happy with, that leaves me with 2.5m in the bank. Which is strange.

    Schwarzer, Mignolet

    Cole, Lescott, Simpson, Orr, Rangel

    Silva, Downing, Ramsey, O'Hara, Moses

    Drogba, Caroll, DJ

1.5m will go on upgrading Lescott to Baines next week. I could spend an extra million in defence, or I could splash it in midfield somewhere, or I could save it for a rainy day.

Every team I made up until a few days ago I was finding myself 0.5m short of what I wanted, so it's weird to have spare cash now. Anyone else planning to underspend?

I guess I like myself an attacking defender. Your stat below is food for thought though... any idea what his stats for assists are?

R.E. Moses, I happen to be a believer. I think he might have a bit of a break-out season and be snapped up next year or the year after, a la Valencia and N'Zogbia.

Nah he's definitely worth a gamble alright. I 've had him in since day 1 before the unexpected bandwagon took off. Had him at the start of last season too but he was useless.

Champ's assist stat for Rangel looks slightly promising. I dunno though, I just wouldn't like to spend the extra on a defender I'll rarely willingly put into my XI.

Looks good jonny. Mignolet is very risky though they have a 3 way battle for the #1 jersey.
One thing i'd recommend, for the same price as your keepers & Cole you could have cech, 4.0 gk & Riise. You'd get the same chelsea/fulham cs points but imo more attacking points from Riise than Cole will get.

Don't get me back onto that debate! I settled for Cole over Cech because I think attacking fullbacks may be a big part of what Villa Boas has planned for Chelsea. I also figure with Cech you're going to play him every week, which inevitably means games like United, City, Arsenal away... whereas you can play the fixtures with 2 rotateables. Although having said that, at the start of the season I was firmly in the Cech+a cheapie camp.

You've made me luck up Riise's stats now: 21 goals in 234 appearances for Liverpool. Almost a goal every 10 games over the course of his whole career. Damn....

for totalfpl dream team, so considering GW1 only,

    Kuyt and Zamora

    or

im thinking kuyt is flying under the radar heading into GW1, dont see him in alot of drafts here, and definitely dont hear anyone considering him for captain, im leaning kuyt but could be persuaded.

Liverpool have signed Downing and Adam. Both good players and point magnets. I'd say that diminishes Kuyt's real value though you can never be sure.

Those two options are hard to compare because one has a striker. I think the other 3 players are promising, especially Carroll.

i might be missing something, but pool are playing sunderland, which is pretty much the opposite of a "gutted out" squad like newcastle's....

Ok thanks for your advice. Who would be a good cheap reserve defender i can replace alcaraz with?

Enrique if you can stretch the extra .5. For cost parity Olsson or De Laet?

            I have $0 left so....
            Maybe Al-Habsi > Ruddy
            Alcaraz > Enrique

Quick sense check before GW 1:

    Schwarzer (Given)
Shawcross, Orr, Kompany (Da Laet, Bramble)
Taarabt, Yaya Toure, Nani, Moses (N'Zogbia)
    Zamora, Hoilett, RvP

4.5 in the bank ... GW 2, swap out Hoilett for Drogba or Saurez.

Fair enough ... do you think I've weakened my midfield too much to be able to bring in a pricier mid if they light up?

what happened to the Taarabt bandwagan...

he's on all set pieces and top pk man. big talent and QPR at home GW1. I know he hasn't lit it up in preseason but should that really matter?

Been fretting over my team for hours and hours today!!! It's just getting annoying! Can anyone put to bed any of my concerns please?

    The line-up for GW1

    Given
    Lescott - Kompany - Orr
    Malouda - Silva - N'Zogbia - Moses
    Rooney - Bent - Holt

    Ruddy - Sinclair - Bramble - Simpson

Afraid of Villa losing to nil and scoring 6 points combined from N'Zog, Bent & Given!

I just have a feeling Bent will dominate the early part of the season. He's scored on the opening week of the PL the last 2 seasons. Not convinced with Carroll, but I guess it seems the logical option. Thanks for clearing my head Welshy! I'm biased as a Villa supporter!

What is the general thinking about Huth now that stoke has got Woodgate and Upson? is he likely to be rotated a lot?

have to consider europe, that is why they bought the extra defenders. Huth will start in the more important games whatever the manager labels that as, he is certainly first choice though.

I'd wait and see with Huth. Their opening fixtures aren't that good anyway. Don't think he'd be rotated off the bench, just maybe a change in position.
