Scout Notes

Scout Notes- Gameweek Two- Sunday

David Silva continues to dazzle as the main dangerman for Roberto Mancini’s stylish Man City in a 3-2 win over battling Bolton. A Matt Jarvis inspired Wolves keep up their 100% league record with a comfortable win over Fulham, while Stoke grab a last-gasp equaliser to deny Norwich a dream home start. Here’s the round-up of yesterday’s matches:

Solid Wolves
With Kevin Doyle partnered by Steven Fletcher up top and Roger Johnson marshalling the back-four, Wolves are looking a steelier proposition this season. The strike duo rarely played together last term due to injuries but have already shown that, if they can keep match-fit, will be a handful for any side. Mick McCarthy’s side swept Fulham aside in their opening home fixture of the season and with a wiser, more experienced look to the first XI, look unlikely to suffer a repeat of last season’s battle with relegation. Matt Jarvis was the stand-out player, with a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win. Roger Johnson appeared to grab an assist in the win but with all assists under review this weekend, we’re anticipating this to be addressed.

Jol Has Work to Do
Fulham have been impressive in their Europa League qualifiers so far but yesterday’s loss at Molineux means they’ve taken just one point from two league games and have failed to find the net. Martin Jol made four changes from the side that beat Dnipro in midweek but Fulham looked lethargic in this, their ninth game of the season, and will need to pick themselves up for next week’s trip to Newcastle. Clint Dempsey started up front again, partnering Andy Johnson as Bobby Zamora missed out with an ankle knock.

Bolton Up for the Battle
Owen Coyle’s side may have been beaten in the end but their willingness to scrap every inch of the way was encouraging for the Trotters boss. Ivan Klasnic scored again, Martin Petrov looked the part on the left wing and picked up two assists and with Kevin Davies also netting, Coyle’s side are in fine form going forward right now. The only problem for Bolton is that their fixture list doesn’t get any easier- the City game was the first in a run of matches that will see them face five of last season’s top six between Gameweeks 2-7.

Silva Continues to Shine
Man City have now scored seven goals in their opening two games and despite Sergio Aguero’s brilliant debut last Monday, it’s David Silva who has been the consistent stand-out. The playmaker was immense at the Reebok, passing and probing for openings in a porous Bolton back-four that was lucky to concede just the three goals. Silva has now scored in the opening two games, though there’s no denying his goal was somewhat fortuitous. With Carlos Tevez getting game time at Aguero’s expense and Yaya Toure dropping deeper now that 4-4-2 is a viable formation for Roberto Mancini, Silva looks the most assured Fantasy option of any City player. Mancini left out Gael Clichy, Nigel de Jong and Adam Johnson for this one, with Aleksander Kolarov, James Milner and Sergio Aguero starting.

Tinkerman Lambert
Paul Lambert demonstrated that he will shuffle his pack in attempt to counter the threat of opponents. He made no less than five changes to the Norwich starting XI that earned a draw at Wigan, dropping the likes of Andrew Surman, Russell Martin and Wes Hoolahan to the bench. Steve Morison missed out with a groin injury meaning that Chris Martin came in alongside Grant Holt. Turning his back on the midfield diamond in favour of a traditional 4-4-2 with wingers, Lambert emphasised the need to adapt in his post-match comments . From a Fantasy perspective then, the early signs are that we can take nothing for granted with the Canaries line-up. Ritchie De Laet at the back and Grant Holt in attack would seem the most reliable targets – De Laet was again impressive and his goal will have earned him further attention which is likely to tempt investment.

Potters Spot-Kick Dilemma
Stoke’s persistence eventually paid off against ten man Norwich, with Kenwyne Jones’ late equaliser denying the Canaries all three points. Jonathan Woodgate returned at centre-half after being rested in midweek, though a knee injury to Jermaine Pennant will cause Tony Pulis some concern- the winger was withdrawn just after the half hour mark. Jonathan Walters seemed to have jumped to the head of the queue for spot-kick duties- he stepped up and subsequently missed a penalty with previous first-choice Matt Etherington on the field. It’s perhaps doubtful as to whether Walters takes the next one.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Did someone's post get deleted then?

Anyway how was your weekend everyone? Friday night was usual hijinx.

Saturday, went for a drink with Donna, who then abandeoned me with most of a bottle of wine (whch to be fair was nice, and she did pay for) to go shopping 9___9. Suffice it to say that not long after, I was verrry drunk. Got home and faceplanted into bed, and was served up fish and chips by Donna.

Then yesterday was spent in the sunshine and playing pool, when Donna phoned to see if I wanted to go for a drink by the waterfront. Well she was already pretty drunk when I got there and in her usual drunk-beligerant manner. Then we got some shopping and I made some nachos (melted a bag of grated cheese over plain Doritos) with some nice dips, and watched Zombieland (I can't remember who recommended it, but TOP CHOICE! thanks!).

Sounds like an interesting weekend! I went white water rafting at the olympic place near London - capsized on the second run down the course, 10 of us flung from the boat and I ended up doing a run down the rapids with no boat which was rather painful.

Me either to be honest. Got invited and decided to go for it, didn't regret it all. It wouldn't have been as good without the capsizing! It's inspired me to do some more adventurous stuff.

Oh, nice, hope the weather was good for it. My mate reckons it's brilliant, the way he put it is you sit there listening to the radio commentary having a pint. So it's like being in a pub, but outside and with cricket.

I don't think cricket's that good, but as long as you're in the sun having a pint, I'm sure it can't hurt 😀

+1 are all bps up? Really flawed if he can play 90, clean sheet and save a penalty and not get a BP, but Suarez (sure he was good for 20mins) gets 2 points for nicking a goal at the end....

I think they just need to scrap these stats sites for BP's and have a small panel who actually watch the games to give BP's to those that deserve them. I know it's potentially more costly but at the end of the day you could just have a get-together watching Match of the Day and come up with better choices than the stats sites do - as long as it was a few varied, unbiased people that's all it would take.

Sam, I think that's very decent given the number of miss-firing stars so far. 59 myself, including a 10 bap haul, so reasonable too, but frustrated a bit with Torres/Saha solo point a piece. Roll on GW3.

Looked like he was hard working and played fairly deep, probably deserved a BP. Not sure why he got more than Derry who was everywhere for QPR on Saturday.

I think Taarabt completed something silly like 98% of his passes though, which probably swung it for him.

When QPR win it looks like he will be in with a shout for bap love.

    HELPFUL TIP

Guys, I have heard a couple of people complain about not being able to click on the matches on the homepage anymore, in order to conveniently see who the bonus points were awarded to.

Instead if you click the FIXTURES tab, then click the scoreline of a match it will shows you some stats on the game and show who got the bonus points. It isn't as good as the old site where you could see the scores of every player involved in that match, but at least this way you can see who got the bonus quickly.

bollocks as the bonus on there is wrong if u compare it to the ppi for this week
dont believe averything the FPL put out there check it urself
take the EA PPI minus the one on the FPL and u get the true ppi for this week then check the bonus and u will see that is wrong

So how can a keep that is widly expected to go down this year, keep a clean sheet, save a penalty, draw 0-0 and not get a bonus point. Pathetic.

he fact that they are favoured to go down this year has zero influence on the BP. That being said, I agree that if a keeper was due a bonus point that game it was Vorm.

Straw poll.... Save transfer to have 2 for GW4 or use one on this lineup?

I feel your pain Andy, I am in the similar boat, my bench has more points than the first team. To bad u didn't go with your dearest friend Bent. I had him and Silva in my initial squad so my team would looked much better if this GW 2 free transfers madness didn't happen at all.

But u r proven manager and double GW King as someones will say, so look forward the next GW's.

      Cheers,

Wowsers, thought i was doing bad, both relying on Wayne then. Good to see someone else punting on Cahill, cant believe he missed that one from about 2 yards. Im giving him the next 3 weeks tho, id like Silva instead but im playing catch up and need the differentials.

any analysis done on a possible positional bias for the bonus points? Does it seem to favour midfield players? could have impact on formation choice.
