Set-Piece Takers Updated

One of the benefits of the international break is that it allows us to pause and take stock and perhaps refresh some neglected areas of the site.

We’ve been able to update our set-piece takers based on the evidence of the season so far and, of course, last season’s records – you can now view the updated table – listing the penalty, direct free-kick and corner and indirect free-kick takers for every side – right here.

Mikel Arteta’s shift to Arsene Wenger’s squad has undoubtedly had the biggest impact on the current set-piece landscape. Having relieved Leighton Baines of free-kick and spot-kick duties for Everton at Blackburn in Gameweek three, his deadline day transfer to the Emirates has put Baines back in control, proving a major boost to the left-back’s appeal for the remainder of the season. We’re yet to see what kind of impression Arteta can make at Arsenal but, there’s little doubt he arrives with the reputation of one of the league’s primary set-piece experts and Wenger could well look to relieve Robin Van Persie of some of his responsibilities in this area.

Revisting that Blackburn vs Everton clash in the previous Gameweek – it’s worth noting that Junior Hoilett took on spot-kick duties with both David Dunn and Morten Gamst-Pedersen on the pitch. Jason Roberts was available, but Hoilett got the nod over him. Roberts was then off the pitch when Mauro Formica hit the post with his effort. This leaves the Blackburn Rovers spot-kick situation in flux, but we’ve given Hoilett promotion above Roberts in the pecking order, despite Saturday’s miss. New arrival Yakubu could yet have a say in this however.

Indeed, we’re still waiting on the impact of a host of new signings on the set-piece set-up. We imagine that both Samir Nasri and Juan Mata will both have a say for City and Chelsea respectively. Similarly, we’re yet to see how Steven Gerrard’s return, with the Spurs game in a fortnight the target, will influence the situation at Liverpool. Right now Charlie Adam is hogging set-plays but, we imagine that could change on Gerrard’s return to the fold.

Having established a new starting point for the season, we will work to keep this table updated and refreshed on a regular basis as the Gameweeks roll by.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is Baines worth his price, given Everton's plight?

Nah, should have stuck with him. You're lucky if you get 90 mins from a 5.0 midfielder. Can't expect anything more. And promoted sides always play well at the start of the season.

Senderos not a guaranteed starter. Sess probably won't play oop with Bendtner in the team, Ferguson is a no go imo, he won't play so you only got four midfielders. Moses might come good, but Wigan got hard fixtures.

    Front 8 at the moment

    Silva Sinclar Sessengeon Nani Moses
    Bent Saurez Long

    In bank 2.7 i guess

Now Long's injury is a concern..i was tempted to do Bent to Rvp
Is it wrong going without Rooney and going with nani instead??and if long is injured enough and not fit to start this wekkend...should i take a 4 point hit of replacing bent and long??if yeha then any other decnt option??

Ne changes on sinclair sessengein moses necessary this week??or gonna leave them for a while

            Not bad Robert G.

I currently have 2 options, not sure which way i'll go yet:

            A) Given 4.0
            Santos Bosingwa Komany Simpson Taylor
            Young Walcott Nasri Barkley Petrov
            Adebayor Suarez Dzeko

            B) Given 4.0
            Bosingwa Enrique Ward Simpson Brown
            Nasri Walcott Brunt Dyer 6.2
            Rooney RVP Dzeko

I just have a feeling about Adebayor. Think he'll hit the ground running. I probably will go with B though.

Regarding your Baines +1 -> Kompany Santos in two weeks, surely it's better to go with that now as both City and Arsenal have easy home games no?

                  At the moment it's Baines + 5.5 midfielder > Kompany/Santos + c. 7.0 midfielder...

I like Baines for the next two weeks though. Reckon he'll pay for the possible point hits needed to make the switch in a couple of weeks. Need someone to captain in week 5 as well, and Baines looks like a good bet when a lot of the old favourites have tricky fixtures.

It's possible but i find it hard to believe that RVP won't get his usual glut of points against us, even if Dann and Samba can form a decent partnership. After all, Salgado will still be there to give away some penalties!

Yeah, Faulk was saying the same earlier. It's definitely an option, although he (and Arsenal) would need to show some form in the Swansea and Dortmund games between now and then. Plus, you lot could tighten things up with Dann and Samba at the heart of your defence, although I guess things may not click immediately.

Yeah, for all his faults he can score goals, especially against the lesser opposition, and (especially with the new bonus system rewarding goalscorers) he should be a good bet for the next few weeks at least.

Until he gets injured, I'd imagine so. He's their best defender by some distance.

I can see the massive benefits of doing that. I was looking at holding onto Bent with some reasonable games upcoming, but still have that home game with Wolves at the back of my mind.

To be honest Agbonlahor lookes the best attacking option for Villa at present.

RVP cannot be ignored (usually) but I hadn't considered him with my restricted finances and modest-looking midfield.

Looking allright? Need to do Young->Petrov tonight if I want to go with this team. Anyone think Young is likely to rise .1 in value before saturday? Need to get petrov in before he goes up.

Wilshere's absence will push one of them back. At full strength I reckon Ramsey will be bench material, otherwise at the moment:

      Song/Ramsey
      Walcott/Arteta/Gervinho
      RVP

      ???

Hi im new this year .......used to just do the metro but have used my wildcard to mirror my metro team and will see how the difference in scoring pans out...such a difference in the scoring between the FPL and METRO. Will do the whole season with the same teams and see it out...
    Bergovic/Hart
    Bosingwa/Sagna/Ward/Brown/Richards
    Ssesegon/Jarvis/Adam/Pennant/Nasri
    Rvp/Rooney/Klasnic

Got money left in both games so have scope....

    OR

Mata and Petrov and 4.5m defender (e.g. Ward)

Will also have Baines and Bosingwa in defence plus De Leat and Simpson

Not sure if Meireles is fantasy worthy.

I think you should be bothered about team value EpicFail when playing your WC. I didn't play it this GW also.
Hang on and use a transfer or two to sort your team out over the next few weeks. There's another International break after GW 7 and 10. make some money then and hope this break's risers all flop. Thats what I'm doing.

The wheels of the Bendy bus will fall off mate.

Its unlikely there'll be a bendy bus anyways 😉

      Bendtner > Gyan.

      He'll start I reckon.

Apparently Sunderland were desperately trying to get rid of him on deadline day, and trying to get Gignac in on loan.

I'm not sure which of those transfers is worse. Both horror-show, non-scoring forwards

Gignac did go through a period of scoring a few goals though, admittedly a while ago.

I think you guys are hard on Asamoah Gyan.

Is it a reaction on the fact that he's massively over hyped, and had a stupid nomination for the Ballon D'Or etc? That is all true but he's really not as bad as you two make it out imo.

His scoring record is all right, roughly 1 in 3 at club level and 1 in 2 with Ghana, and he does some work on the pitch too.

He's an okay centre forward. Fluffs his lines a lot though, and can be erratic.

Gyan? yeah. He was going to go to Sp*rs, but gambled on a move to Galatasaray, as he'd get a bigger contract there. Both fell through and he had to stay put.

I assume if they wanted Fat André-Pierre as a replacement, Bruce was happy enough to have Bendtner as his main forward.

Sunderland need goals, Bendtner scores goals. It seems like a good move.

Do you want under or over on Bendtner goals? The line is at 11.5

With Seb Larsson swinging crosses in to him - over. Although not by much.

    RMWCT:

    Given (Vorm)
    Boswinga Kompany Enrique (Ward, N.Taylor)
    Nasri Jarvis Arteta Sess (Watson)
    Rooney Dzeko Suarez

What ye reckon? Nil in the bank, any way to find room for Baines?

Given & Vorm don't rotate well (says he who has both). Looks good all round to me.

Sessegnon may now play wider with Bendtner coming in and he hasn't scored yet - you may need to think about a replacement there: Brunt, Petrov etc.
