Set-Piece Takers Updated

One of the benefits of the international break is that it allows us to pause and take stock and perhaps refresh some neglected areas of the site.

We’ve been able to update our set-piece takers based on the evidence of the season so far and, of course, last season’s records – you can now view the updated table – listing the penalty, direct free-kick and corner and indirect free-kick takers for every side – right here.

Mikel Arteta’s shift to Arsene Wenger’s squad has undoubtedly had the biggest impact on the current set-piece landscape. Having relieved Leighton Baines of free-kick and spot-kick duties for Everton at Blackburn in Gameweek three, his deadline day transfer to the Emirates has put Baines back in control, proving a major boost to the left-back’s appeal for the remainder of the season. We’re yet to see what kind of impression Arteta can make at Arsenal but, there’s little doubt he arrives with the reputation of one of the league’s primary set-piece experts and Wenger could well look to relieve Robin Van Persie of some of his responsibilities in this area.

Revisting that Blackburn vs Everton clash in the previous Gameweek – it’s worth noting that Junior Hoilett took on spot-kick duties with both David Dunn and Morten Gamst-Pedersen on the pitch. Jason Roberts was available, but Hoilett got the nod over him. Roberts was then off the pitch when Mauro Formica hit the post with his effort. This leaves the Blackburn Rovers spot-kick situation in flux, but we’ve given Hoilett promotion above Roberts in the pecking order, despite Saturday’s miss. New arrival Yakubu could yet have a say in this however.

Indeed, we’re still waiting on the impact of a host of new signings on the set-piece set-up. We imagine that both Samir Nasri and Juan Mata will both have a say for City and Chelsea respectively. Similarly, we’re yet to see how Steven Gerrard’s return, with the Spurs game in a fortnight the target, will influence the situation at Liverpool. Right now Charlie Adam is hogging set-plays but, we imagine that could change on Gerrard’s return to the fold.

Having established a new starting point for the season, we will work to keep this table updated and refreshed on a regular basis as the Gameweeks roll by.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hi all - great site, and plenty of people who know their stuff to sponge off - love it! 🙂

I'm a newbie to FPL, so please be kind if my first question on the site is a silly one. Klasnic, yes or no? Is there a reason he never gets a mention here? A goal in each game so far, decent price - so what's the catch?

Yea his not too bad, maybe fixtures? but this season they don't seem to make things predictable. I just think there are better options ie suarez, dzeko in better teams

I think the catch is that he does play for Bolton who have average fixtures. But more importantly he has the likes of Rooney, Suarez, Dzeko, Aguero and Bent to compete with. But on the other hand if your content with just 2 big gun forward spots then he may well be worth it. Not a bad differential either.
      Hope this helps.

He was certainly shaping up to be the good cheaper option but with N'gog coming into the team as well he's starting to have a lot of competition. It's a cheap gamble to take or even cheaper if you take a risk on N'gog who was looking very sharp in pre-season (for whatever that's worth!)

Should have played my wildcard the minute GW3 wound up, but didn't. I've now pulled the trigger on Bent back to RVP, as I just can't watch my team drop in price any more.

Would it be foolish to use my wildcard now, after watching the price changes? Probably missed out on 1m worth of team value in 1 week...

Just have a sneaky feeling N'Zogbia will come good, just like last year...

Of course Mancini will have no problem dropping him. I'd love to take a punt on him this weekend because I think it's his best chance of starting and doing something. But would I want to keep an 11.9 striker, who may or may not start, in my team after this weekend? Nah.

Now quite pleased I played my WC considering the NTI issues, perhaps another FPL cock up, but i'm not complaining.

Can I have your opinions on the following

    A.
    Given, Arteta, Brunt

    B.
    Krul, Walcott, Petrov

    Team is:-

    Given, (Vorm)
Jose Enrique, Bosingwa, Simpson / Brown, (De Laet)
    Silva, Young, Arteta, Brunt, (Dyer)
    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez

My thinking is that Walcott is better than Arteta and I can see Walcott doing some business against Swansea. However Brunt has better I'd prefer Given over Krul as I may end having to play 2 Newcastle defenders and Villa look pretty good defensively.

With Ryan Taylor playing so well its possible that when santon starts he might get switched to his natural position of right back and simpson dropping out so defo cabaye and santon.

I can't stand either MartinJohnson, or the team he's selected. I am ashamed that we are sending out that rag-taggle of shite.

I could select a much better squad out of what he's left behind - and so could every other English rugby lover. 🙁

Fair enough. I don't think I've actually seen the England squad. Is it the usual heavies up top, with little flair behind? 😉

... except they've got heavies behind as well ... 🙁

just because jarvis has outscored ohara in the first 3 weeks doesn't make ohara a bad pick, I actually think ohara will outscore hunt and jarvis over the course of the season.

Playing too deep, OHARA has played more then Jarvis and Hunt, but has less points. Hunt looked good when he came on for Ireland on friday night

Guys pretty much decided on my team, trouble is I'm £0.5m short! Any ideas on how to save it?

    Given, (Vorm)
Jose Enrique, Bosingwa, Simpson / Brown, (De Laet)
    Silva, Young, Walcott, Petrov, (Dyer)
    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez

I'm thinking maybe Krul instead of Given, Ferguson for Dyer or Brown for another £4.0m defender

    Any other thoughts?

I'm just not sure... I have Baines and Shane Long. Should I move the money around?

    Baines -> Ward
    Long -> RVP

I want Baines AND RVP, but that isn't going to happen! No arse Coverage so my other option is to bring Arteta into the midfield, but am desperately trying to avoid playing the fixtures as it's bitten my in the ar$e already... Ignore Arsenal??

Guys appreciate some help! Got two free transfers.

    Given (Vorm)
    Boswingwa Brown Simpson Kompany Senderos
    N'Zogbia Moses Sinclair Brunt Silva
    Rooney Suarez Torres

I am looking to get rid of Torres and thinking RVP is my best option. But would need to raise 1M to get him, so would only fancy doing N'Zogbia to Jarvis but need to act fast as Jarvis is at 6.3 and N'Zogbia has dropped to 7.4, what do you guys think?

    Therefore should I do:

    A) Torres to RVP and N'Zogbia to Jarvis (.1M left)
    or
    B) Torres to Dzeko and maybe N'Zogbia to Walcott (.5M left)

I want to keep N'Zogbia for fixtures but I can't see how I really can. Any one have any other suggestions?

dnt do anything with RVP yet as he has to play for holland 2moro and he is so injury prone!!
and dnt jump on the jarvis bandwagon either, i no hes started well but doesnt always last!

Yeah, I don't plan to rush getting RVP until after the internationals but getting him in will cost me in the midfield so im edging closer to doing B at the moment.

I worry about getting Dzeko as City have so many attacking options and i'm not keen on doubling on Nasri and Silva and I'm considering Mata only for GW6 but I do want to get rid of Torres.
