The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk- Taking Liberties?

Three home games and not a single goal conceded- Swansea once again returned a clean sheet this afternoon as Brendan Rodgers’ side finally picked up their first three points of the season.

While the swashbuckling performances of both Manchester clubs provide Fantasy managers plenty options going forward, the Swans continue to offer plenty cut-price options at the back and, in this thoroughly unpredictable Fantasy campaign, are showing a defensive consistency that seems to be lacking the length and breadth of the Premier League.

Michel Vorm defied West Brom at the Liberty Stadium with a string of saves and jumped to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeeper rankings- at 4.1 he’s cementing his position as one of the bargains of the season. Ahead of the Dutchman, the likes of Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor –the left-back was stretchered off after a clumsy challenge from Peter Odemwingie, however- are all racking up the points right now.

Shipping four goals in their first fixture, it seemed impossible that Swansea would then go on to concede just one in the following four but, exposed to the harsh realities of Premier League life in the Etihad Stadium opener, Rodgers’ side have learned fast. While the likes of Arsenal are hit for four by a side managed by Steve Kean, the Welsh club are defying all expectation with a series of resolute displays.

In a sense, it merely adds to the frustration of many Fantasy managers this season. There have no doubt been a proportion of casual players who initially added Swansea defensive options to their ranks simply due to the low price, allowing their budgets to be allocated to big-money buys such as Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Hand one of them the captain’s armband week after week and bang- there’s your big points haul right there. No need for tactics.

As the big names bang in the goals, the dirt-cheap options chalk up the clean sheets- this Fantasy lark is supposed to favour the more dedicated player; study the form and the fixtures, rotate as and when accordingly. At present, though, it seems far from it.

Anyone reckon a straight swap from Rooney & Dzeko TO Hernandez & Aguero is worth it? i am very, very tempted.

    Any comments well appreciated 🙂

i know yeah, im just really tempted to though because if i do it i can just about afford with zero left in the bank, before all the price rises go up.

If aguero pulls another goal streak tommorow and goes up in price, and hernandez grabs the goals instead of rooney tommorow, i'm gonna do it i reckon. Big call as you say though.

De Laet getting dropped is such a pain, need him for this week. Although at least Hoolahan is back in the side, and possibly on penalties if Holt stays on the bench?

      World English Dictionary
Australia (ɒˈstreɪlɪə) [Click for IPA pronunciation guide]

      — n
a country and the smallest continent, situated between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific: a former British colony, now an independent member of the Commonwealth, constitutional links with Britain formally abolished in 1986; consists chiefly of a low plateau, mostly arid in the west, with the basin of the Murray River and the Great Dividing Range in the east and the Great Barrier Reef off the NE coast. Official language: English. Religion: Christian majority. Currency: dollar. Capital: Canberra. Pop: 19 913 000 (2004 est). Area: 7 682 300 sq km (2 966 150 sq miles)

      Word Origin & History

      Australia
17c., from L. Terra Australis (16c.), from australis "southern," from auster "south wind," metaphorically extended to "south," but based on PIE word for "east" (see aurora), perhaps on false assumption about the orientation of Italy (or perhaps the connection is more ancient,
through the "burning" dawn and the "hot" south wind). Aussie for "Australian" first recorded 1917.

Too many around me have Suarez so may have to give in.

Hate how generic it is though. But they seem like blindingly obvious transfers. The huge decision this week is going to be whether swapping Walcott for Mata (for a 4 pt hit) is going to be worth it or not....

Loving Martin Petrov at the moment, feeling very confident about playing him at the Emirates next week.

    Re-post ; but I'd love a discussion on this

I’ve been convinced for a while that I’d WC after GW7 int. break.
But int. break after GW11 sees a lot of swing in favour, fixture wise for some big teams.
Any thought on this lads? It will be very hard to wait that long!

See how your team looks in GW7. If you're in ok shape then try and hold on to the WC. Same applies for GW11. No need to use the WC just because it's an international break.

the phone calls are great. there was one with a welsh guy calling the maker of his pizza because it didn't have any topping on it. they spent about a minute discussing if he could get a refund then he paused for a while and it turned out it was just upside down and he just had to flip it over.

    My defs atm are:

    Given Vorm
    Baines Kompany Bosingwa Simpson Brown

Looking to ditch Baines, but not sure whether to do:

    a) a 5.5ish who will play most weeks, or
    b) a cheapie to only play when desperate.

b would obviously give me a lot more options up front. What do people think?

Think I'm going to do it - Baines/Saha - Enrique/Suarez. Any reason not to do it tonight to avoid the drop on Saha?

Definitely, although I have no real reason not to with Baines and De Laet nowhere near falling and Suarez + Enrique both closer to a price drop than a rise. Who knows, if Suarez fires another blank (very possible away at Tottenham) then he could fall again this week, especially if the likes of Dzeko, Hernandez and Adebayor score again this week, providing people viable alternatives to Suarez.

As ever I've confused what I want with what I expect to be the Chelsea side. Sturridge could very well start, and if he does it bodes well for his FPL prospects, but if was picking the team he wouldn't be in it.

To be fair, that was only the second game this season where Arsenal's defence has looked poor. Didn't see all of the game today, but Andre Santos was very unimpressive and Mertesacker wasn't much better.

              Sagna Koscielny Vermaelen Gibbs

....is a good defence IMO. And I'd be absolutely amazed if Stoke finish above Arsenal this season, which is what you were suggesting.

The 'communication' between Koscielny & Metersacker was abysmal. That first Yakubu goal when he ghosts past both of them to score, what must be said was an elegant goal for him.

Koscielny has looked pretty good to be fair - he's basically watching over and being sidetracked by his partner's lack of positional sense and slowness.

They struggled last week to beat Swansea and needed a freak goalkeeping mistake to do it.

They let in 4 against a team that couldn't score for toffee up til now. Colour me unimpressed. The new signings in defence don't appear to have solved the issues defensively.

it is a good game, but the reason i dont watch it is because of the blatant way in which they fool the irish public to make money, as i mentioned below, but not just the dublin factor, everybody knows if there is any chance they can make it a draw they will, so they can have another big day out, this really gets to me yet people will always pack out the stadiums, however ive found backing the draws has been very lucrative over the years

u really trying to say that the GAA are not all about making the green and maximizing profit, they are the most corrupt organization i know, they want the dubs in croke park as often as they can get away with it, im not going to argue about when its so obviously a fact

RVP and Brunt -> Adebayor + Mata, no point hit looks good to me?

Yeah, doing something similar. Not happy having players who come off the bench. I think Mata is establishing himself as Chelsea's most potent creative force.

Part of me wants to keep Brunt and not give up right away but with Walters on the rise and him maybe dropping in the near future I may just go for it now. Hmm.

I'm definitely keeping Brunt, people are only getting rid because he's been injured the last 2 GWs but he'll come good and he's on penalties.

Have had at least 2.5 million in the bank for the past 3 gameweeks and if I do Sess to Walters this week it'll go over 3 million with no transfers I really need to do.

Having said that, some feedback would be much appreciated:

    a) Walcott and Suarez
    b) Adebayor and Mata

Yup, before this week I didn't want anyone from Arsenal because I saw little to suggest they still were the same old free scoring Arsenal. Today at least shows that they still are capable of the high scoring games. Its not like I'm getting an Arsenal defender. Suarez has a good run of games as well.

I'll probably be going with b but I don't think a is all that crazy either.

He came on for someone whos even worse than him. I don't think Arshavin will hold his starting spot much longer. Other than Walcott hopefully you had a decent week 🙂
