The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – It’s About Time

With just five games played out, Saturday satisfaction always looked unlikely. It’s fitting however, that with the big guns yet to be primed, we saw a handful of mid-price players come to the fore and deliver long overdue returns. Fitting and just little bit painful.

Jamie O’Hara started proceedings, blasting a dramatic equaliser to earn Wolves an unlikely point. Full of industry, creativity and threat, O’Hara has been an influential figure, without delivering returns for those brave enough to take a punt. Subject of our recent Members’ Monitor article and, just a couple of gameweek’s later, O’Hara has at last broke his duck. It was coming.

The start of something special? With City up next and three away games in four, it seems unlikely. Even so, O’Hara could yet figure on our radars should McCarthy get Wolves earning victories again.

A few hours later, Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon – another mid-price midfielder who has failed to live up to his pre-season billing, earned Steve Bruce three points with a victory at the Reebok.

Ironically, Sessegnon’s first goal of the season coincided with his shift back to the flank, as Bruce paired Connor Wickham and Nicklas Bendtner in his forward line. The Dane later converted a second for the Black Cats; Sessegnon providing the assist and fetching a belated 10-point return for the few thousand Fantasy managers who had kept the faith. Expect bonus points to follow on Monday morning and, with three home games in four to come, suddenly “Sess” is back in the game and blinking bright.

While Sunderland prevailed at Bolton, Yohan Cabaye also fired his first goal of the season to hand North East rivals Newcastle the points. The Frenchman is another Fantasy prospect that’s been touted as overdue returns. Having delivered just a couple of assists thus far, Cabaye gleefully converted to keep the Magpies buoyant and Wigan resigned to the relegation spots.

Unlike Sessegnon, Cabaye’s stock seems unlikely to rise from today’s success. Alan Pardew is now set to steer his happy ship through choppy waters, three away trips in four with Stoke, City and United presenting three of the toughest destinations around. Cabaye’s next significant return could be a good few weeks away.

Is anyone out there feeling smug? Is there really any Fantasy manager with O’Hara, Sessegnon and Cababye tucked away in their lineup? There can’t be many and yet, there will be plenty who have owned at least one of them previously, now pondering what might have been.

Having been threatening to return all season, the trio chose today to get off the mark – a day which seems set to see such modest scoring for many. That only fuels the frustration and makes their late delivery all the more difficult to accept.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Aye, funny because at the beggining of the season I thought he would be one of the only players to start and finish the full season for me...

I'm thinking of swapping for Ruddy, and playing Vorm for the majority of GW's. Would give me enough cash to upgrade Sturridge to Aguero...if and when I decide to

Altough I was pretty sure he'll get a yellow too..

No thinking this kind of shiiiiitssssssss,
    a) De Laet, Mata, Suarez => Kompany, Walters, Aguero (-4)
    b) Enique, RVP => Kompany, Aguero
    c) Bosingwa, Rvp = Kompany, Aguero

    I really can't do this.

There is no continuity and it is impossible to have a decent discussions about anything. Any adivce given is like words offered to the wind.

You will understand if you remember the old ffs.

I just feel like it is impossible to follow a discussion now due to the volume of postes and the number of new pages. The old ffs used to have one long page so it was easier to have one decent thread on a topic with people adding to it over time. Once the volume of posters went up too high though they had to shift to a new format due to pressure on servers (I think) which was leading to crashes and other technical problems.

Oh well no point wishing for the past its like when you are eating at your inlaws and you let a silent but deadly one go and wish you hadn't. Wishing can't make it happen 🙁

The problem with this site is that it is infested with people who want you to pick their teams so it will never be good for discussion.

Mark needs to develop a forum, that way the clueless can have their own threads and those that want to debate can debate.

    Given, Ruddy
    Kompany, Bosingwa, Simpson (A.Lopez, Gabbidon)
    VDV, Walcott, Sinclair, Moses (Cabaye)
    Sturridge, RVP, Rooney

I want Aguero. He could get some massive scores in the nest 3 GWs and could be a great captain choice!

2 FT, reluctant to let Sturridge go, but how else can I get Aguero in?

    So out of these options

    A) Bosingwa, Walcott and Sturridge -> Shawcross, Walters and Aguero(C) (4 points)

    B) Bosingwa and Walcott -> Shawcross and Silva

    C) Walcott and Lopez -> Shawcross and 8.6 mid

I do love the comments from people who's players have 1 bad game, and suddenly they're the worst and have to go. Like so called fans in the stands who get on the backs of their manager and players ten minutes into a game, and are then surprised they lose. 🙄 I really believe this is a lot to do with generations growing up with instant entertainment and instant gratification. No attention span or patience.

I just have enough for wes just feel he hasnt got his rewards yet for his performances and a quality differential.

        My midfield would be

        Mata Nasri Nani Brunt Hoolahan

Would it be a big gamble subbing nasri for next week just think brunt and wes in good form and rotation king may rotate samir again.

If you can afford Ade then get Ade, bang in form, nailed on to start and with great fixtures.
