Scout Picks- Gameweek Eleven

Before we’re rudely interrupted by yet another two-week international break, the Scout Selection Committee have knocked their heads together once more to come up with a squad ahead of gameweek eleven.

With so many matches looking prosperous for points, balancing the budget proved to be tricky this week. With the Wayne Rooney midfield conundrum thrown into the mix and rotation high on United’s agenda, plenty of options were discussed behind the scenes before we eventually came to a conclusion. Rolling out a 3-4-3, we present to you the following…

It was a toss-up between Tim Krul and Shay Given for a place between the posts but the Toon Army stopper gets our vote in the end. Newcastle will be buoyed by last Monday’s triumph at the Britannia and ahead of a tricky set of upcoming fixtures will be looking to maintain the defensive form that earned them a clean sheet in the last home game against Wigan as Everton pay visit to St James’ Park.

A home clash with Swansea could offer Jose Enrique a chance of points both at the back and going forward. The Liverpool left-back has also returned bonus points in three of his last five games and with Brendan Rodgers’ side somewhat toothless on their travels, Enrique stands a strong chance of prospering.

Having started eight of his side’s ten games so far, Jonny Evans offers a cut-price option at the heart of the Man United defence. With the return of Nemanja Vidic bolstering the champions’ back-line, the 4.5 priced Irishman seems set to benefit from an increased resilience as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side line up at home to Sunderland.

Ten gameweeks into the season and only three players have produced more assists than Micah Richards. With 4 to his name already, the right-back has benefitted from Man City’s more attack-minded approach this term and having been rested in the midweek Champions League trip to Villarreal, looks an assured starter this weekend as the league leaders make their way to Loftus Road.

With four assists and a goal in his last five appearances, Juan Mata is returning solid, if perhaps unspectacular, returns for Chelsea. A goal and assist in the previous game at home to Arsenal suggests he’s becoming more pivotal as the gameweeks go by and with Andre Villas-Boas’ side rolling up at Ewood Park, Mata could be set for a double-figure Fantasy return for the second game running.

Subject of a Watchlist article this week, Aaron Ramsey takes his place in the Scout Picks midfield. The young Welshman has produced 3 assists in his previous three home games and is creating plenty of goalscoring chances for the like of Robin Van Persie and Gervinho right now. A home clash with West Brom could see him plunder the points once again.

It’s impossible to ignore Rafael Van der Vaart now. The arrival of Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor seems to have furthered the Dutchman’s potential with in the Tottenham team and Van der Vaart has flourished, with 6 goals and 11 bonus points in his last five games. A trip to Fulham is by no means easy but he has the form to prevail, regardless of opponent right now.

The next two spaces in our Scout Picks team prompted the most debate. We needed Liverpool and Man United attacking cover and the choice boiled down to Nani and Luis Suarez or Charlie Adam and Javier Hernandez. Both duos had their merits; Adam is just one point behind Suarez for the season so far, is on most of the set-pieces in Steven Gerrard’s absence and Hernandez led the line for United at Everton last week as Rooney dropped deep.

Nani and Suarez, however, are, on their day, capable of explosive Fantasy returns and with that in mind, they won us over. Both face home games with Sunderland and Swansea respectively and offer the potential to score strongly this weekend- we expect them to justify our faith.

Robin Van Persie– we could just leave it at that, really. If you somehow need a reminder: 2 goals in each of his last three home matches, a total of 9 goals in his last five games, the Dutchman is on fire right now. Fresh after a brief midweek sub appearance against Marseille, the Arsenal skipper faces West Brom at the Emirates with an incredible 61% of votes in this week’s Captain Poll.

As mentioned above, a slight concern over David Silva has reshaped our plans. Sergio Aguero is hardly a bad replacement, though; the number one forward in the top-scoring team in the Premier League, Aguero played just sixteen minutes as a substitute at Villarreal in midweek and surely seems set to be named in City’s starting lineup at QPR tomorrow.

Quite like my forward line for this weekend...

    RVP, Rooney, Suarez...

Ok I know that one is currently masquerading as a midfielder but I will be hoping to use a famous Brucie line...

    "Didn't they do well"

Personally, I'd rather have Sess than Walters purely because I absolutely despise Stoke's way of playing football. They are route one galore and the only way you are going to bag points off Walters is from penalties.

Sess will be up against FUL, WIG, wol, BLA after the United game which is very attractive on paper.

I'm considering doing Rooney IN Aguero OUT. Genuinely think Rooney is just as good a captaincy option this week as RVP (who I now can't afford) and a better captaincy option than Aguero.

I get the impression I'm in a massssive minority here!! 🙂

Yeah I would be very worried. Do people really think Rooney in midfield is likely? I think he's about 80% to start upfront and 20% in midfield. If he does play in midfield, he'll be playing along side Fletcher, so won't have to play as deep as when he was playing with Anderson. I think there's a chance we could see Jones in midfield as well.

Do you think 20% is too low?

Anyone ever considered having an erratic player like Adam Johnson as a first sub as a long term option.

So if any of my big hitters are rested or rotated he would come in and his points to mins ratio is excellent.

From week 12 the midfield and forwards i plan to have are

    VDV Silva Brunt Mata

    RVP Sturridge Bendy

So if any of those were rotated or rested adam's points would come in , a risky startegy but could be rewarding.

Can't see how that could possibly be the right thing to do. It can be useful to have good prospects who are rotation risks if they have good average points given that they play but why would you want these good rotation risks on your bench and not in your starting line-up? If you need them to come in and they haven't played then you're stuck.

Normally, you want your high-variance players in your starting line-up more often than not, so that if they don't play they will be subbed out.

Was hoping to save my xfr this week and have 2 for the International break. Not so sure now.

Wondering whether I ought to get rid of Kompany for Jones and Taarabt to Ramsey. Will cost me 4 points and no money in bank though, but in my position I can afford to take a one off 4 pointer.

Wos reckon lads? If I leave things as they are then I will have to play this team:

    Hennessey
    Saylor, Naylor, Jenny
    Silva, VdV, Taarabt, Sinclair
    Sturridge, Rooney, RVP (c)

I have taken an 8 point hit this week, Rooney -> RVP, Kompany -> Jones, De Laet -> Evans. Hope they pay off, need a united clean sheet else those points are going to be sorely missed. I felt as though I needed to get rid of de laet eventually and this was a perfect opportunity for it, was going to wait for the january wildcard until today though. The last time I took a hit like this was a few game weeks back and I was sure that both mata and arteta were going to explode to I moved mountains for them - ended up with a 16 point hit and dropped like a stone. Terrible decision from me, although mata has been decent.

Okay I don't thing you need to get the chain saw out yet - what's needed is a little bit of Hollie Oaks plastic surgery.... having Tate in your team is a total joke and Kompany a no point weekend. Sub Kompany for Jones - He will play this week and Manu have a far better fixture list over the next few weeks from a defensive view then Mancity. Moses thus far has been more disappointing the an England away game - if you have the money go for a good differential like Drenthe. No one got him but he will get loads of points as the major attacking flair player for Everton. Your front three are better then mine, so stop whining and for God sacks get rid of Tate!

I have the almost same dilemma with walters and johnson and have opted for walters based on stoke making 9 changes for their midweek european game (hopefully easing the general fatique and tiredness that stoke will undoubtedly be feeling with 3 tough games this week), walters being an oop mid on pens and stoke having the more winnable fixture (bolton easier than villa imo). As for allen i would still pick walters over him as swansea have been fairly poor on the road and liverpool may run rampant if they hit their stride this weekend. Hope this helps mate.

I don't think either is worth the hit as long as you have 11 who will play.

Really don't know what to do with transfers this week..

    Given
    Woodgate Simpson Bos (Orr, Kompany)
    VDV Silva Petrov Sinclair (Surman)
    RVP Rooney Agbon

I don't really want to save the transfer because i will probably play my wildcard so it would be a waste, any thoughts?

I have 1 transfer. Thinking of banking it. I was planning to Wildcard, but honestly, like the team.

    Anyone disagree?

Wildcard Saturday night, for the international break and try to play the market that is. Problem is, like the team for the most part, think the market is a waste of a WC, and would like to have it down the road for emergencies!

Bank it, but get Begovic for Given before next GW with one of your 2 frees.

You have some nasty Villa games coming up and GW12 and 14 are a horror show for both your keepers.

Feel like I'm reaching desperation levels, 160 odd points off mini league leader and desperate to make up some ground. Team this week:

    Vorm
    Jones, Simpson, Enrique
    Nani, VDV, Silva, Pilkington
    Aguero, Van Persie, Sturridge

    Subs: Ruddy, Shawcross, Dyer, Gabbidon

0 free's left and 0.4m in the back burner.

    Any advice is much appreciated

    Schwarzer Mignolet

    Enrique Kompany Warnock TaylorS BrownW

    Silva VDV Moses DyerN PetrovM

    RVP Suarez Adebayor..

    0.3m in bank.

1 free transfer.. I don’t mind taking a 4pt hit but would prefer not to.. where should I start? Basically I want to get Hoilett in the next few weeks and either Drenthe or Ramsey in for Dyer/Petrov next week, along with getting rid of Warnock next week.

Do I need to get rid of Mignolet? Surely I can’t play Schwarzer every week?
