Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek Thirty Four – Saturday

Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero tear Norwich apart as City suggest the title race is far from finished. West Brom and Sunderland pick up home clean sheets yet again, while a Gylfi Sigurdsson-inspired Swansea dump Blackburn at the Liberty and all but seal their own bid for top-flight survival.

Carlos Tevez
City’s away problems have, notoriously, been their Achilles heel this season. Despite dropping just two points at home over the entire campaign so far, Roberto Mancini’s side have been lacklustre on the road, winning two of their last ten in an appalling run that had seen them score just five goals. The stage was set, then, for Tevez yesterday, and he didn’t disappoint. A hat-trick and assist tore Norwich to pieces as City hammered six past a stunned Canaries side, with the gap at the top now temporarily trimmed to a couple of points. Mancini’s men have now notched 10 goals in the two games since Tevez returned to the starting line-up, with his partnership with Sergio Aguero looking unstoppable. The maximum bonus will surely follow, as will plenty transfers in – a trip to Wolves is likely to offer further attacking returns for the prodigal son, with Tevez clearly focused and intent on making up for lost time in sensational style.

Sergio Aguero
A brace at Carrow Road followed on from his two goal, two assist performance against West Brom on Wednesday. Incredibly, despite a total of 21 goals so far, you’d have to go all the way back to Gameweek 5 to find the last time Aguero scored in back-to-back matches – yesterday also brought an end to the dire away run that saw Aguero fail to notch in his last ten on the road. Providing United win their next two and City triumph at Wolves, then, the Gameweek 36 Manchester derby at the Etihad could allow Mancini’s men to cut the lead to two points – the early-season form has maybe returned too late but Aguero could be set for a significantly strong end to the campaign as City go all-out for goals in their tussle for the title.

David Silva
The Spaniard grabbed his fifteenth assist of the season yesterday, edging further ahead of Antonio Valencia (13) in the rankings. Silva is picking up in performance as the campaign comes to the boil – he also scored in the 4-0 win over West Brom, having returned a single assist in the previous ten Gameweeks. Priced at 9.6, down from a season-high of 10.6 in Gameweek 27, Silva is slowly but surely producing the goods as a Fantasy force again and could prove a pivotal figure for City over the final four Gameweeks if the Etihad club can maintain their current level of performance.

West Brom Defence
Since the arrival of Liam Ridgewell in the January transfer window, the Baggies backline have proven to be particularly reliable at the Hawthorns – despite losing Jonas Olsson to a groin problem in the warm-up, yesterday’s 1-0 win over QPR was their fourth clean sheet in the last five home games. Only Newcastle have managed to score away since Ridgewell made his home debut in Gameweek 26, in a run that has also brought four wins for Roy Hodgson’s side. The visit of Villa in Gameweek 36 affords further chance of defensive returns and, while a home clash with Arsenal in the final match of the season will deter many Fantasy managers, West Brom’s defenders could offer a decent option next term if they can replicate their current home resilience.

Peter Odemwingie
Over 10,000 Fantasy managers drafted in the West Brom forward ahead of the home clash with QPR. Having been given the night off in Wednesday’s mauling at the Etihad, Odemwingie returned to the Baggies’ starting lineup – his recent role out wide seems to have come to an end, as he partnered Marc-Antoine Fortune up front, with Chris Brunt stationed on the right wing. The Nigerian picked up the Fantasy points for the first time since Gameweek 26, providing an assist for Graham Dorrans’ winner and, with Villa and Bolton to follow in the next three, could offer further chance of returns before the season is out.

Sunderland Defence
With Wolves conceding an average of three goals per game prior to yesterday’s trip to the Stadium of Light, many were expecting a goal fest. While Terry Connor’s backline defied the odds, the Black Cats once again picked up a home clean sheet – their sixth in the last eight in front of their own fans. Martin O’Neill recently hinted at affording Craig Gordon some game time but this failed to materialise yesterday, with Simon Mignolet maintaining his role between the posts. The 4.4 priced Black Cats keeper continues to rack up the returns; his average of 4.2 points per game is the third best of any first-choice keeper, matching the likes of Joe Hart and edging out Brad Friedel and Tim Howard.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
At the seventh time of asking, the Icelandic international grabbed his first goal at the Liberty Stadium as Swansea ended their four-game losing streak in emphatic fashion. All six of Sigurdsson’s previous goals had come on the road, with just a couple of assists to show for his previous home endeavours. Sigurdsson was also belatedly credited with an assist for Scott Dann’s own goal and, pre-bonus, picked up an 11 point haul yesterday. After fourteen appearances for the Swans, then, his current average of 6.2 points per game is top for midfielders, with Clint Dempsey’s 5.8 in second place. Despite making a mockery of his 5.6 price tag, Sigurdsson is still owned by just 6.8% of Fantasy managers and, with Bolton and Wolves up next, is afforded plenty opportunity to rack up the points before closing out the campaign with games against United and Liverpool.

Nathan Dyer
While Sigurdsson steals the limelight amongst the Swansea midfielders, Dyer and Scott Sinclair have fallen way off the pace. The latter has now failed to find the net since Gameweek 23, while Dyer hadn’t scored since Gameweek 21 prior to yesterday’s visit of Blackburn. Having scored just one goal in their previous four matches, Brendan Rodgers side had been woefully out of sorts up front but the 3-0 win saw them notch more than two goals for only the fourth time this season. Dyer’s goal just before half-time saw him break the 100 point mark and in terms of “value”, he’s the third top midfielder this term, behind Victor Moses and team mate Joe Allen.

Michel Vorm
The Dutchman was required to make just a couple of saves in yesterday’s romp as Swansea picked up their first home clean sheet since Gameweek 28. Vorm now has 13 clean sheets for the season and is only one behind Joe Hart in the race for the Golden Gloves award – those aforementioned games with Bolton and Wolves offers a chance to rack up more and, with Rodgers’ side now 13 points clear of the drop zone with just four matches remaining, the pressure is almost certainly off. Blackburn and Wolves cannot overhaul the Welsh club now, while QPR would need to win all their remaining matches and hope Swansea lose all theirs in order to climb above them by a point.

GW 36 Differentials if you're chasing leads?

Assuming you think Bale, Adebayor, Mata, Dempsey and Cisse will be popular amongst most teams, my differentials are:

Suarez - The big haul is due! Rotation worry for FUL with cup final on the horizon.
Jelavic - Out of the cup so no need to be rested. A proven finisher.
VDV - The forgotten man. Rotation an issue but less so if they go out the cup.
Lampard - Still capable of huge hauls and has been playing more regularly. The worry is rotation with all the fixtures they have.
Huth - Only defender I'd consider. 2 home games and can score goals.
Carroll - Finally getting amongst the goals. Rotation risk.
Crouch - 2 home games. Not explosive but could be a nice differential.
Ba - Everyone will be getting Cisse but if you're chasing then Ba could spring back to life. Still on pens (I think) and while he has been moved a bit wider, he has still been getting chances.

A lot depends on how Chelsea and Spurs do today and whether Chelsea are stuffed out of sight by Barcelona in the week.

Out of that lot, I already own Suarez and I plan on adding one of Lamps/VDV (depending on whichever one goes out the cup) and then one of Jel/Carroll/Crouch/Ba. Not going to get Huth unless I get defensive injuries as already have 3 double game week defenders.

I think Mata would be more on that list than the 'popular' list, plenty won't touch Chelsea given their fixture bundle along side RDM's rotation policy.

Here are some points I gathered re: the Tevez vs Aguero discussions:

    - Aguero played an average position that was further forward
    - Aguero had more chances on goal
    - Aguero had more time on the pitch
    - Tevez’s passing vision was better (better assist potential)
    - Aguero’s finishing appeared to be more clinical
    - Tevez was a better poacher
    - Aguero looks like he is really hitting form with his running/finishing
    - Tevez looks like he is out to prove something

    some other facts:
    - Aguero is owned by more FF players
    - Aguero is 2nd choice penalty taker (after Balotelli)
    - Aguero is cheaper by 0.7mil (irrelevant if you only wanted either player GW35)
    - Aguero has more transfers (knee jerking)
    - Aguero has a history of poor away form until recently.

Decision: I’m going to select Aguero this GW against Wolves. Probably captain him too.

I was proud of Yaya with his two assists for me this week. Then I saw MOTD and realised in no way could they be called assists. Shooting at the keeper and passing to Aguero behind the halfway line do not count as assists in my book.

Right, no the troll from Stoke has gone to the "barbers" on a Sunday

I am really in a pickle

My money mini league is now a 2 horse race. I am currently 31 points behind before today with Verm Theo and Tony V versus his Young and Siggy bps

Excluding players that are the same

Me...Begovic Verm McCaulay Walcott Valencia Sess Suarez Williamson
Him Hilario Turner Kompany Kelly Siggy Dempsey Young Cisse

Both..Vorm Jevans Caulker Bale McClean Rooney RVP

I have a saved transfer and .9m. He will have Vorm only for wk 36

I really would appreciate some advise as I am dreading next week

Lots of crazy DGW picks being suggested. My advice, for what it's worth, is not to pick a player for the DGW that you wouldn't pick on an ordinary GW. Petrov, Ryo, Davies, etc, will all probably disappoint.

That can definitely be lucrative. My point is that players that don't perform in ordinary GWs are unlikely to in a DGW. The proven points scorers are safer bets. Bale, Dempsey, etc.

Villa are the last team to stop Utd scoring at Old Trafford, and Villa were excellent last season with Bannan and Hogg in CM with a lot of other youngsters in the team. I know it's about 1 win in 30 against them, but we can always hope, right!?

    Potential Summer Transfers (News)-

-Manchester City are said to be preparing a £16 million bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.

-Bayern Munich are set to offer Edin Dzeko a return to Germany.
Bayern are looking for a new striker with Mario Gomez likely to move to Real Madrid in the summer.

-Chelsea are eyeing up Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul as they look to replace Petr Cech.
Despite Krul signing a long-term deal at Newcastle earlier this season, Chelsea are lining up a £15m bid for the Dutchman and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is reported to be happy to sell for the right price.

-Adding to Chelsea’s goalkeeping woe is the news that Thibaut Courtois wants to stay in Spain for another season.

-Royston Drenthe is set to cause a stir in Liverpool when he crosses the city to join the Reds.
Currently on loan from Real Madrid to Everton, winger Drenthe is out of contract in Spain at the end of the season and while the Toffees cannot afford to match his £80,000-a-week wages, Liverpool are able and willing.

-Vedran Corluka looks set to quit Tottenham permanently for Bayer Leverkusen.
“Bayer have the option to buy me in the summer,” the right-back said. “I can’t see any reason why I shouldn’t stay.”- Corluka

City would certainly look for a striker & if RVP doesn't signs a new contract at Emirates, he may come to City.
Another striker City would be looking for is Higuain.

    RVP, ade, cisse

unless youre getting him out for Demps it might be worth it then. Mata has barcelona, Fa cup. many reason to be rested. but not demps, if you dont want demps then i suggest dont do the move at all. keep sess

Yeah he is super consistent too. I wouldn't be surprised him putting a couple past united, he is hard to handle. City when on fire with their tails up as now are very difficult to play. I'm still thinking whether I should get him or not, as would like a dgw player! But it's mighty tempting!

Somewhat determined by the United game I suppose but assuming its an unspectacular result what would you do. Other mids are Bale, HBA and Siggy.

    A) Valencia > Dempsey (Surman on the bench)

    or

    B) Rooney, Surman > Cisse, Dempsey -4pts (Serious benching Dilemma)

What are peoples planned DGW teams?

    Mine is currently the following;

    Krul
    Kaboul - Simpson - X
    Dempsey - Bale/VDV - X - X
    RVP - Aguero - X

Last defender: Either play McAuley/Caulker or go for Huth/Cahill (Could go Baines if I go HBA as final mid)
Two last midfielders: One of them will probably be Siggy, last spot currently between HBA and Pienaar
Last forward: Adebayor, Cisse or Jelavic (Highly dependable on which defender/midfielders I go for)

Sitting at home watching LA Galaxy against Portland. Portland are 1-0 up. Essentially I'm watching Beckham, Donovan and Keane fumble about in from of goal, lose the ball to player's who can't dribble it and drill the ball into the stands. I can see why they left the Prem.... On the plus side? Watching this has given me new hope that I can actually become a professional footballer. Albeit in America.

Currently have RVP--Rooney--Aguero...Bought in Kun for just this one week hoping to field XI players... Original plan was to get Cisse back... And after his brace, dont want to get rid of Aguero...

What the hell am i supposed to do now??? 🙄

What an utter mong. Time to retire Carra, before more people realise that the only reason you're even in the squad is because you're Scouse.
