Euro 2012

Captain Poll – Matchday Three – Day One

It’s time to wipe the slate clean and start afresh with our captaincy options once again, as Fantasy managers ready themselves for the final round of group matches to begin tomorrow evening. With all four sides standing a chance of progressing to the last eight, defence is not an option for either of the quartet – now is the time to go on the front foot and, with no clean sheets in any of the Group A games thus far, Fantasy expectations will be high:

Current group leaders Russia square up to Greece, with Alan Dzagoev offering the main goal threat. The 7.8 priced midfielder has notched three times already, though Andrei Arshavin’s trio of assists has helped the Arsenal man to 13 points in the McDonald’s game. Roman Shirokov’s attacking menace from the midfield three could well play a part, while Aleksandr Kerzhakov may face a battle to hold down a first-team place after missing 11 chances over his two appearances – Roman Pavlyuchenko is waiting in the wings to replace him.

The Greeks are trickier to predict. Only one player – Giorgos Samaras – has started up front in their two matches so far, with Theofanis Gekas and Dimitrios Salpingidis grabbing goals against Czech Republic and Poland respectively after climbing off the bench. Konstantinos Mitroglou was afforded a 19 minute sub role against the Czechs but could earn a call-up to the starting XI as Santos reassesses his forward options.

Poland’s remit tomorrow night is simple – win against the Czech Republic and they are through. Skipper Jakub Blaszczykowski has had a hand in both his side’s goals so far, providing an assist against Greece before notching the crucial equaliser in the match with Russia – he looks set to be inspirational once more for Franciszek Smuda’s side. Robert Lewandowski’s threat up front will also be crucial, while Ludovic Obraniak’s creativity and set-piece duties have seen him provide plenty of opportunities for his team mates.

The Czech Republic will be hoping Vaclav Pilar can continue his goalscoring streak in their crucial clash with the co-hosts. The midfielder has notched in both his side’s opening two games and, priced at just 5.1, has proven to be a cut-price gem for Fantasy managers. Petr Jiracek’s move to a right wing role against Greece last time out saw him grab the opener and, with Tomas Rosicky still a doubt due to an Achilles problem, the creativity of Jaroslav Plasil looks more key than ever. Up front, Milan Baros is likely to lead the line and will be keen to pick up in performance after a disappointing couple of games so far.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

This free transfer business is bugging me now.

    Who would you boot:

    Nasri/Sneiddy/Dzaegov/Shiro/Iniesta

    Welbeck/Benzema/Lewandowski

I'm thinking Nasri for Xavi. Thoughts?

    Malfeev, Given
    Alba, Bebuchy, Lescott, Kaldec, Maggio
    Inesta, Shirokov, Mandzuick, Afellay, Yarmolenko
    Jelavic, Ronaldo, Benzema
    0.5 in bank

    I am thinking:

    Afellay to Pilar
    Robaldo to Gomez

Can't seem to shoehorn in Dzagoev

    Ozil - Iniesta - Ribery - Shirokov - Young

    Cassano - Benzema - Jelavic

1 FT. Desperately need some Polish attacking cover. Have a feeling that Obraniak is due something too.

If Torres starts(another possibility for you ) silva seems to play higher up in that 4-3-3 formation, for me he's been player of the tournament and I don't expect him/Spain to stop.

I'm not keen on Italy as fantasy prospects. I can see IRE scoring as they go all out for some restored pride and I suspect it may well be Keane and co's last game in a green shirt.

The others are very good except maybe Marchisio. Looks great playing but not a points hitter, a bit like Wilshere in PL. Could be man of the match in your eyes but in this gets few points.. I hear what you're saying and you're right but Hodgson is very conservative. More likely to hold the game with Milner for 1st half at least then spring Walcott. Walcott will get some gametime but there's better options for around 8 m. Cabaye, Pilar, Yarmalenko etc.

FFS Euro Cup 2012 Group D: Permutations for Qualification

As we head into the crunch period of the tourney, let's take a look at what each team needs to do to qualify into the QFs.

But first, here's what the rule book says:
    1) The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout phase
    2) If 2 teams are level on points after the final group match then the h2h record (win/loss) between them will determine
who qualifies for the knockout phase.
    3) If 3 or more teams are tied on the same points after the final group match, the Points Difference (GD) will come into play, as it effectively takes into account all the matches. If the GD is equal, then the team with "higher points scored over the 3 games" goes through.

    1. Sweden: (6 pts) - HillBillyPete & Dynamic
Very much dubbed to be the dark horses of the group but guess what - heading into Matchday 3, they're already the group winners irrespective of other results. Two uber-comprehensive results against England & Ukraine sees them take the group winner spot. Have they peaked too early? Only time will tell.

    2. England: (3 pts) - Drinky & Roscola
Despite a loss to Sweden in Matchday 2, a spirited win against France in Matchday 1 sees them keep the 2nd spot. However, the scenario for qualification is straightforward. A win/draw against co-hosts Ukraine will see them progress as runner-up in the group. A loss would see them joining France in the "crashers party".

    3. Ukraine (3 pts) - Demi & Mac
After having suffered the biggest humiliation of the Cup in the hands of Sweden, they've recuperated well to win (albeit a tad lucky) against France. Next up, they need to win against England to qualiify into the QFs. Anything less would see them crashing out.

    4. France (0 pts) - Mark & ENR
This team boasted the King of FFS & a defending FFS UEFA champion in Europe. As predicted by the masses, they become the first team to crash out of the Euro's. France have confirmed the sacking of co-manager ENR and are now in the safe hands of Mark, ironically who is the only manager in this group playing his wildcard in Matchday 3.

PS - Watch out for the other group reviews by TW. Let me enjoy my "crashing party" in Puerto Rico.

PS - Blessing in disguise - all this Euro FF wasn't appealing at all. Now to watch the Euro's from a solely Italian fan perspective 🙂

I carry the ffs torch alone... Meanwhile in group b china mag and in like flynn's holland exacted cruel revenge on Germany (aka camzy and I ) in the final few minutes with wellbecks cheeky goal howitzering them into a lead.

With germany still on 3 pts, we will be looking to put Denmark to the sword.

I've let Mark down (who's having quite an awesome start to the Euro FF). Can't believe I made such an amateur error of not removing Benz & Mexes from my bench.

Indeed Jonty! High expectations from you now...going down to the wire as they say! Good luck...I'll be cheering for your team, only after Italy. 😀

Yeah I heard that too. Hart will play on the right wing, Walcott in goal, Rooney centre back with Roy Hodgson as playmaker in a cunning ruse more cunning than Professor Cunning of Cunning University.
