Euro 2012

Euro 2012 – Fantasy League Pro Update

Following on from yesterday’s round-up of our McDonald’s game, it’s time to focus on our dabble with the Fantasy League Euro 2012 Pro game.

With auction leagues created throughout the community, the Scout hosted three divisions, involving myself, Mark and Andy as Chairmen. Here’s a breakdown of how those divisions have panned out.

Scout Division One

In the Scout Division One, Boomslang’s eponymous lineup dominates going into the final four. A 14-point lead over second place Bozovac looks to have sealed him the crown. A combination of Andrea Pirlo and Mario Gomez have done the business for Boomslang, with Iker Cassilas and Joleon Lescott providing returns at the back. Boomslang will go into the semis looking remarkably strong, with 14 of his 15 players still active and one hand on the Division trophy. Bozovac takes just eight active players going forward: he can only hope that the Spanish pair David Silva and Jordi Alba can produce to help him close the yawning chasm. The signing of Marco Reus in last night’s round of bids could also be instrumental.

Gigging Order’s lineup is giving chase in third, with just a three-point gap to bridge. He’ll be looking to 10 active players, with Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Bastian Schweinsteiger surely crucial to his prospects.

Mark’s team sits in fifth, trailing the top three by a huge 22 points. It’s been an unremarkable campaign for him, with the gamble on Wayne Rooney falling short and Xavi and Andres Iniesta massively disappointing, considering their hefty auction fees. There’s still hope though; 12 active players for the final four may yet see Mark climb to a respectable finish.

Scout Division Two

There are a mere eight points separating the top three in this Division as we head into the semi-finals. Tommy J has led the way since early on in the competition and, with 60 points on the board, holds a slender two point advantage over Ginkapo. Tommy’s been blessed with the most efficient attacking squad in the league; so far, his side have racked up eight goals and provided seven assists, while a total of 14 goals conceded is the least number in the league.

Only three of his players picked up the points in the quarter finals, though; Alvaro Arbeloa and Joleon Lescott returned six for a clean sheet apiece, while Joao Moutinho earned four for assisting Cristiano Ronaldo’s winner against Czech Republic. After last night’s 11.30pm auction deadline, Tommy now has 10 players going into the last four, including the suspended Christian Maggio for Italy.

Ginkapo shot up the leaderboard in the quarter finals after picking up a monster 32 point haul. His decision to double up on the Portugal defence worked wonders, as Joao Pereira and Rui Patricio produced 12 points between them in the 1-0 win over the Czechs. Elsewhere, Jordi Alba and Xabi Alonso notched a combined 22 points in Spain’s win over France, grabbing two goals, an assist and a clean sheet between them. Last night’s auction saw Ginkapo mirror Tommy’s player quota – he, too, has 10 players left going into the final stretch.

Mch makes up the top three, sitting with a total of 52 points. He picked up 14 points in the quarter finals, thanks to the contribution of Cristiano Ronaldo, Joe Hart and Jerome Boateng though, after last night’s auction deadline, he has just five players for the upcoming pair of semi-finals, with the likes of Fernando Torres, Andres Iniesta and Bastian Schweinsteiger also in his squad.

Elsewhere in the league, I’m sitting in fourth on 47 points after picking up 16 points in the last eight; I’ve still got 12 players left in my squad, including the injured Helder Postiga for Portugal. Gurka is 10 points adrift in fifth, while SuperDunny and Saram sit in sixth and seventh on 34 and 32 respectively. Shinoda brings up the rear on 18 points and, with three players only remaining, he may well be fearing the wooden spoon.

Scout Division Three

A 15-point gap separates leader, The Giggs Boson, from second place Battersea Babes. The latter was, at one stage, the top team in the entire Pro League game but now sits 547th overall, with the leader of this division lying in 127th place. He’ll go into the semis with eight active players to protect his lead, with Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller likely to be key to his chances. Battersea Babes will give chase with just five players and looks unlikely to challenge.

Michelen, lying in third and just a point behind, will fancy his chances of closing on both the teams above him with eight players, including Nani, Bastian Schweinstieger and Miroslav Klose, up his sleeve. As for Andy, like Mark he’s suffered an inauspicious campaign: he lies in fifth, with just Mats Hummells, Alvaro Arbeloa and the Italian pair of Mario Balotelli and Di Natale still alive and kicking to see him over the line.

And Finally…

Fantasy League are looking to gather feedback on their pro-auction game with plans afoot to improve matters ahead of the Premier League season. If you’ve played out their Euro 2012 Pro game, feel free to send on your feedback to mark@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or via your comments here.

Talk about risky, my wife and I are #1 and #2 in our Mini League, My team has 4 portugues 2 german and 6 italian and 1 spanish - she has 6 Portugues and 6 German. Go Portugal! If spain pass, it will be hard times for us (dont think they will, can honestly see Portugal winning 2-0.) At least now I dont need to wait for lineups to see if it is Fabs or Torres. Good luck everybody. All or Nothing - Most will have Spain and Germany. Would love to see a Portugal clean sheet in this one, and think it is very Possible the way Pepe and Alves are playing. Only Spaniard that I think can cause major havoc today if playing is Pedro.

Yes IMO. Even though he has been quite average, they need experience and the semis of the Euro is not the time to gamble on somebody else.

              Patricio
              Hummels / Alba / Pepe
              Ozil / Khedira / Iniesta / Busquests
              Silva / Torres / Ronaldo

La Repubblica thinks that Chiellini will replace Balzaretti and that Abate will be fit (with Bonucci and Barzagli the other defenders). Could just be the Italian press speculating again though.

German Press Conference is scheduled for 17:15 (or 16:15) UK time I believe as i think it's 17:15 CET. So hopefully just under 2 hours to wait for some news on Gomez/Klose. But knowing Low he won't tell us anything.

Hopefully PB can confirm I have this right.

Yes, it's 16:15 UK time with Löw and Schweinsteiger on the wheels of steel. You might find out more about Schweinsteiger's fitness, but that's about it.

Leaks won't occur until tomorrow morning at the earliest. That's when the agent of one of the unhappy players who has been left out cuts a deal with Bild (which appears to be what happened last week).

Hey Isaki and Snowy, and/or Arsenal fans, I'm interested in your take on he Arsenal lineup next year, my thoughts:

Aresnal's front 6 should be fine with all their signings, especially with Wilshere back for central mid competition.
They need a good backup CB behind Verm and Kos, Sagna and Gibbs to stop getting injured, or add a proper backup to them.

Tbh, Arsenal's first choice XI looks very dangerous from where I am, it's what happens when injuries strike that has been the problem

    Chesney
    Gibbs, Verm, Kos, Sagna
Wilshere, Song, Arteta (Rosicky, Ramsey, Ox)
Podolski, RVP, Walcott (Gervinho, Giroud, Ox)

That front 6 has depth, the defence doesn't, that seems to be the main difference.

    Agree with that lineup?

Even Baloteli and Boateng MAY miss out.

Too many uncertain Players for me.

What are people's views on hanging on to Wildcard for the final? Am thinking of going all in on Spain/Germany for the semis, then if it goes wrong, still got the wild card to bail me out. Alternatively, use it now to probably have a slightly stronger team for the semis, but very little final wriggle room!

Given only 4 free transfers for final is it best to go 4 Germany/Spain 2 Italy/Portugal as a ML leader, not wanting to take any majr gambles as I has a 25 point league.

This will mean 12 if Germany/Spain win, and that if there is only 1 upset you still have 10, or 2 upsets you would still have 8. (without having to take a hit)

Can see why those chasing would gamble, but what of those who are defending a league, how will you play it?

Is Khedira really a valid choice? Or are people selecting him because he scored a goal? I mean... If any portuguese midfield had scored a goal, I wouldn't bring them, so why should I (we) bring Khedira?

Because he'll probably progress and be worth points in the final.

As above re the Germans being likely to progress, plus he's been playing further forward for Ger than he does at Real so might be more likely to pop up with another goal/ an assist

@Archie. We wont have RVP next season. A replacement will be needed. I think our squad will be good enough to finish within 12pts of the champions. I think Gervinho will have a good first half season before he heads to ACON.

    What do you think?

    Neuer
    Boateng, Alba, Balzaretti, Arbeloa
    Khedira, Fabregas, Ozil, Pirlo
    Silva, Klose

Not so sure on Balzaretti, Fabregas, Silva and Klose

Wait for today's starting eleven to decide on Fabs and Silva, as for the other two, you'll have to risk... From what I've red, Klose is pretty nailed on... Not so sure on Balzaretti, but you might replace him with Barzagli or Abate (the later will probabbly start according to press).

I would chose 1) just because you won't be worried in the final about who will start... (assuming they both go to the final)...

Sorry ... new player question. How do you get a 4.0 player? Virtually all the available players cost more. Did I need to have these 4.0 fillers on my team from the QF or earlier?

People gambling on the likes of Reus, Klose and have 12 men are you going to put them in even if they start on the bench? Eg. Would you replace a 3 pointer?

Thoughts please, with & without Fabregas

    Casillas Butland
    Abate Boateng Alba Badstuber (4.0m)
    Khedira Iniesta Busquets Fabregas (4.0m)
    Cassano Ronaldo Muller

    Casillas Butland
    Abate Boateng Alba Badstuber (4.0m)
    Khedira Iniesta Busquets Moutinho (4.0m)
    Torres Ronaldo Muller

Can't help but think I need to find a place for Silva somewhere. Going virtually all in on Germany/Spain with wild card backup for the final if it all goes wrong!

i think in your 1st team it is possible...
but you will have to sacrifice your 3 players
      swap fabregas for alonso...
      swap silva for cassano
and swap muller for someone will low value

and then you could play with 4-4-2 formation
