The Pre-Season Guide

This morning we’ve added our Pre-Season section to the site and main menu bar (at the top of your page). This links through to the pre-season guide – our comprehensive coverage of Premier League sides’ warm-ups before the big kick-off.

In the guide you’ll find links to all our notable pre-season articles so far, including the End of Season reports for the promoted teams – West Ham, Southampton and Reading.

The guide also lists all the upcoming friendlies for Premier League sides and we’ll be recording the result of each one, with a link to the match report and recording the scorers. Under this we’ll be putting together some pre-season scout notes on each team and listing the form players. This should equip you with all you need to get a synopsis of how each team has fared over the summer, the lineup trends and the players taking form into the kick-off. Scout Notes, published regularly on the homepage, will also add to our pre-season package.

West Ham started us off with their 3-1 defeat to Austria Vienna earlier this week, with a good amount of teams in action this weekend. Highlights of the summer include the Arsenal vs Man City clash on July 27, United’s meeting with Barcelona on August 8 and, of course, Swansea’s encounter with “Ventura County Fusion”. No, we haven’t a clue either.

Top 25K overall rank
One 100+ GW score
One top 25K GW rank
One 50+ score for a single player (captained of course) in a GW (probably DGW)
Less than 200pts on the bench for the season
Win ML & H2Hof course......

  All reasonable, but less than 200 on the bench is going to be very difficult, and not even a good thing really - I now it's frustrating having points on the bench but if they're scoring well then it's a good thing. < 200 over 38 weeks is about 5 per GW 😆 Shane Ferguson maybe?

  Lampard will only play as part of two DMs (along with Mikel or Essien I expect) and Torres up front on his own. Then Mata is nailed on, with two from Hazard, Ramires, Oscar and Marin. Three of those will be in their first season, and I can't see Marin playing much.
  
  Can't see them buying Hulk anymore either, and Lampard won't play every game. I'd say only Mata and Torres are safe options (and probably Hazard) in their midfield.

why are people that desperate for FPL to open?

dont get me wrong, most of you will have seen me post the last few years and know that im pretty addicted to the game but its 39 days until the season starts, surely as long as its up and running at the start of august that will give you more than enough time to tinker with and sort your team?

        I live in Toronto. Lots to do here.....night life is great! If i were you, i would hire a Corvette, the Charger is "just another muscle car". Take the drive north of Toronto about 2 hours in it. You will not be dissapointed!!!

1) Stick to home/ away rotation (regardless of fixture) e.g. newcastle/ sunderland - hope across season will average out to 15 clean sheets between them

2) Rotate based on home/ away + fixture so play the team most likely to win (e.g. picking REA vs sun instead of NEW vs che) - hope you can get a few extra clean sheets by avoiding particularly tough home fixtures

It seems that clean sheets are quite random so a lesser team might beat city 1-0 away then lose at home to wolves the next week.

Reason I ask is was considering 1 MCI/ MNU + Sun/ New (~ weekly rotation) + Tot/ Rea (Reading just for the hard tottenham fixtures e.g. REA vs nor instead of MCI vs tot).

Any advice would be much appreciated =)

  I had Krul/Mignolet/Al-habsi second half of last year and just picked whichever I thought was more likely to keep a CS. Home or away was a factor but also thought about form of the attacking team. And I got really lucky.

  Accounts, I think tat if you go cheap rotators, then play the odds/home adv. It's notoriously difficult to predict a 'shock' result.
  
  Built around a couple of expensive sho-in players (Kompany, Vidic eg) is probably how I'll go, assuming enough cheapie rotators available.

  He used to be a great FPL prospect for Reading last time they were up. Once got four assists in one game I think.
  
  That Reading side in general were goodt for FPL. Shorey, Sidwell, Hunt, Doyle, Kitson, super Leroy Lita all decent value.

Difficult to measure but who were the form players at the end of last season? Find its often a more reliable picking policy than based on stats for the whole season.

      I'm not sure how you reached that conclusion Couch P. Refusing to sign a new contract and failing to fulfil your current are hardly one and the same.
      
      But my instinct remains that attempts to keep RvP will prove futile, especially with the possibility of 'convenient' injuries. Get some cash for the lad, and move on, but preferably (from Gooner point of view), sell oversea.

  In fact if i am not mistaken, Wenger mentioned in an interview that he was considering seeing out the season with RVP. Would really work out. If he stays, Arsenal have a really good chance at winning some silverware this season i think.

Right, first off ; great WUM from AP. I never checked his link, so was caught big time. I had huge doubts but decided that the risk was too great to miss out on all the fun. However my night didn't go exactly to plan.
Firstly, told the missus that I would do the night feed for the 4 month old. She was very suspicious because I would never volunteer, especially on a work night. Set alarm for 3.55 am. Put 5 year old in our bed and lay down in spare room...happy days.
Then, at 3.15am, the 2 year old wakes up screaming and delirious (she'd had a temperature all day). Got her some water and gave her some Calpol. Five minutes later she does the biggest watery puke you've ever seen...pyjamas, duvet, pillow all drenched. More wailing. 4 month old wakes up and joins in.
Changed pyjamas and stripped down bed. Puts 2 year old in with the mammy. Then have to take 5 year old out of our bed and back to his own bed. He starts crying then.
ALL three are now crying. It's now circa. 3.45am. Mayhem.
Feeds infant. Check FPL.
Had a smoke on the patio.

  Same here. Our 2.5yr old boy made the biggest piss ever in his bed at 330am. I was soooo happy when it happened and I had to get up. Very excited I Logged onto Fpl...only for my mobile to shut down due to low battery. I ran to get a charger and started to charge the phone while I got him new Pj's, duvet & sheet. Eventually he is asleep and I log onto Fpl.

        I didn't change my team, but many did and I can understand why. The team news was expected to come out at that point (just before the deadline), and unfortunately for some people that coincided with this website crashing and no new comments allowed to be made, so Alonso14's stayed there. People didn't regularly post fake line-ups, really.

      That depends on with whom you picked the fight. Don't go making the mistake of believing the 'good ol' days' were some age of innocence. Have a read about the 'Teddy Boy tear-ups' of the 50s, or Mods vs Rockies in the 60s, you'll get plenty of bloodshed.
