Projecting Value – Goalkeepers

Having rolled out a Selection Guide to Goalkeepers earlier this afternoon, we now switch focus to the Members Projections for our search for the men between the sticks. While Joe Hart predictably sits out on top, we focus on value in this first Members article, examining those keepers who are expected to deliver the best points per million ratio for the season and the first six Gameweeks…

      Not sure about the Young punt, but the MU midfield is a conundrum. Otherwise very decent.

    Right so here's your City update!

    We are still the Champs!

    okok, seriously. In the latest friendly against Malaysia, Tevez and Aguero both started, both looked menacing, and both scored. They both played set up man and striker at different times but clearly have a real chemistry growing.

    Your welcome.

      Yeah, noticed that too.

      I really wonder if Lescott will be challenged for the second CB spot along side Kompany, or if they will have 2 partnerships (1 of cup competitions, 1 for the league)

    First (and probably only) RMT of the ore-season:

    Friedal, Federici
    Ivanovich, Clichy, Gunter, Clyne, Demel
    Hazard, Kagawa, Pinaar, Noble, Maloney
    Torres, Rooney, Tevez

    Too many risky players/rotation risks?

    Which options do you guys think is better,
    A. Rooney, Michu, Teves, Harte
    or
    B. Aguero, Bale, Pog, Collonci
    Really like have a 3 gun foward like consisting of Teves, Rooney and Torres but really want to find a way to get Bale into my team. Option B seems like a possible way, it will also leave me with the money to go Torres to Rooney GW2 but A already has him.

    Heres my team if it helps, basically just want to fit bale in.
    De Gea - Fredici
    Cole, Clichy, Harte - Demel and Fonte
    Silva, Taarabt, Michu, Noble - Maloney
    Teves, Rooney, Torres (C)

    Thanks in advance

        Yeh that has always been in the back of my mind but really think Silva will have a great season. Bale is a must IMO tho especially with his early fixtures, just looking now maybe Bale to Silva GW6? Well that would be the plan, my team will change a bit early so hopefully should have the funds later on. Bale it is!

    I could ask just Rangel or Williams, but since it seems that it could be annoying, could you just talk about Swansea defenders fantasy prospects for coming season?

      its between the two, rangel more attacking, williams more prone to bonus, at least so last season. So its close to even. I heard rumour of a williams transfer so until that gets sqaushed im happy going rangel for the time being.

      Martinez set their team up.. so Rodgers leavin won't affect their CS chances much as they'll still play their possession football. Caulker was known for bein out of position often.. i honestly think chico will be an improvement. 5 home games in the first 8 just cannot be ignored.. They got the potential to get as many CS's as the top teams in their first 8 imo. Rangel is far more attackin in open play and should be set for 5+ assists. Williams however always gets 2-3 goals a season and BPs. Can;t go wrong with either. Get rid for Huth/Wilson GW 9 but

        I've gone with Rangel purely for his attacking prowess and ability to bombo forward ... Swans fans have said they expect him to have a much better year again! Also considering chico, especially after he scored in the US tonight ... but we'll wait and see methinks.

      Will Williams even start though? I just wrote off the Swansea back line due to the prices but I've seen a few people flirting with Williams. Is this just hopeful or is there actually a good chance of him being nailed on (and I mean actually nailed on, playing 100% of games when fit)

    ok so as Hellasleaf said, the RMT's are getting a bit boring so I thought I would come up with something a bit different. Here's a guide to the best defensive choice from each club factoring in both price and points potential (all my opinion). Enjoy.

    Arsenal - Szczesny (5.5) To begin with the Arsenal defence looks a not so appealing option as for tough fixtures, and with popular choice Sagna out with injury it makes their defensive options look even less viable. But at an equal price to Brad Friedel, Szczesny looks to have much potential as a solid keeper choice.

    Aston Villa - Avoid. With new attacking-minded manager Paul Lambert, the Villa defence looks a horrible option for even the most desperate of Villa fans. With no nailed on 4.0 starters and a 5.0 keeper you are definitely better off looking elsewhere.

    Chelsea - A. Cole/Ivanovic (6.5). Depending on personal taste either Cashley or Ivanovic would be a viable pick with 6.5 seeming a great steal into the Chelsea defence. The only doubt surrounds Ivanovic's place in the side with Di Matteo maybe looking for a new right-back, but on the other hand he does offer much more attacking potential.

    Everton - Heitinga (5.5) Although known for their slow starts many predict a turn-around in the Toffee's fortune this season; however, the Everton defence may not be the best place to lay your money down. If you really wanted to, I would say that Heitinga is the best choice as he has nailed down his spot, and is not as much to splash your cash on as Baines who is also a possible option.

    Fulham - Hangeland (5.0) In my opinion Fulham will have a magnificent season this year, keeping many CS along the way and at only 5.0 Hangeland is a steal as he is solid at the back and gets himself in many attacking spots.

    Liverpool - Skrtel (6.0) Similar to Arsenal, Liverpool do not have the greatest of starts so it may be better to veer away from their defence early doors, but further in Skrtel might be a gem at 6.0, if Brendan Rogers can repeat his Swansea strategies at Liverpool.

    Man City - Lescott (6.5) With the champions having a relatively easy start to the season, City defensive coverage seems vital, and although there is much doubt surrounding their full-backs, the CB's seem pretty much set. At a full 1.0 less than his counterpart, Lescott seems the sensible option as he will probably score similarly to Kompany anyway.

    Man United - De Gea (6.0) Man United are in a very similar defensive situation to their Manchester rivals: not a lot of certainty, and prone to rotation. Included in this defensive rotation doubt is David de Gea, but at the moment he looks set to start the season ahead of Lindegaard and if he can his confidence back up I doubt he will be challenged. No one can complain about having a 6.0 goalkeeper who keeps CS more than every other week.

      Surely Koscielny > Szcsesny?! Can't argue to much with the rest, although personally I think Baines is worth the 1.5m over Heitinga.

    So Tevez and Aguero playing well together pre-season.

    If we assumed that they continued this into the season, is it right to assume that Silva's returns will be impacted? i.e. is he worth his £10m?

        I've currently got Silva and Tevez, and I'm likely to keep Tevez for a fair while as I'm set that he'll see enough game time and returns to warrant it. I like the Aguero + Tevez move, it tempts me but I also like having Ade+Torres too, Spurs fixtures are so nice I want to double up on them.

        Maybe I should go Aguero+Tevez, Bale+Siggurdson? Flair move 😎

          That's a fair call. Aguero looks pretty devastating right now though, so I'd be wary not having him for the 2 'easy' games in the first 3 GWs.

          I think I'm starting with Aguero, Tevez & Bale, and I may well do Lamps -> Siggy in GW2 (lets call that option e) below!) 🙂

              It's an option yeah. If Piggy looks out of sorts in GW1 then I may take a gamble on on MUN (GW2-4 aside their fixtures are pretty pants in the first 10 GWs). To be honest though, it's more likely i'll get him in via one of the options below - thoughts on my post below?

    Afternoon fellow deadzoners! Post minor changes to the defence, here's my latest team - any thoughts? Also, which of the GW2 options looks best right now? Thanks in advance!

    Friedel, Federici
    Ivanovic, Rangel, Hangelaand, Cuellar, McCartney
    Bale, Lampard, Taarabt, Noble, Maloney
    Aguero, Tevez, Torres

    GW2: Depending on player form and which club they're playing for, either
    a) Torres -> Ade/Jelly
    b) Torres & Aguero -> Rooney & Ade/Jelly (4 point hit)
    c) Torres & Tevez -> Rooney & Graham ( 4 point hit)
    d) Torres & Lampard -> Pienaar & Rooney (4 point hit)

      a all day long for me. You definitely want to get some spurs attacking cover in. those fixtures are a real opportunity you don't want to miss.

      I'd seriously advise against hits, especially this early on in the season. I don't think Rooney is essential given their fixtures - they're not bad, but they're not amazing either. I think you can go without.

        Cheers, I'm normally against hits too (only took 3 last season), but I'd also captain Rooney in GW2 and he has a nice little run (albeit only 3 games). Agree on the MUN fixtures front though. Perhaps i'll see how he looks against Everton in GW1 and then decide.

      Morning Jinswick.

      Tempted as I am by your fwd line for GW1 I think you'd be regretting it quickly as I can't see Citeh hammering either Liverpool or Stoke away from home and at some point you just know Mr Ballotelli will have us all asking 'why always me?'.

      If you are gambling on Citeh annihilating Soton in the home opener I'd suggest you go with Jelly for Tevez in GW2 then transfer out Torres for Adebayor for GW3.

      Playing it safe, Jelly instead of Tevez to open with and an upgrade for Noble may make more sense.

        Morning! My double on City is for a 3 week period. SOT and QPR in the first 3 games could be goal fests, and the 2 city strikers look on form and likely to start imo.

        I think Torres -> Rooney in some form is unavoidable in GW2, unless he looks awful in GW1. I quite like d) above.

    Note to Fabio owners

    He started off yesterday night's game in midfield with Traore starting at LB. 2nd time this pre-season that has happened. Might be best to get someone else in and go with Green in goal for QPR coverage if you were looking at him as your 4th rather than 5th defender in the rotation.

        Although I'd expect him to start over Traore. What is the point of going on loan from United's bench to QPR's if thats the case.

            Surely Hughes would prefer to give game-time to someone who is actually under contract at the club if they are performing at a higher level though or he thinks they deserve a chance? If Fabio doesn't nail down a spot in the team, he could always end up somewhere else on loan.

            I don't think he's necessarily nailed on, although it's looking like he will get a chance to establish himself in the team.

              Would agree with your final statement. Traore will definitely start some games - I'm guessing about 1/3rd of them - but I think Fabio has first dibs on the LB position to start with.

        As with all OOP LB/RBs who playing further forward on the wing, I guess their position is not guaranteed if the defender playing behind them is solid and there are other players challenging for the position on the wing.

        I suppose it could work out great if he gets a run in the team (similar to Coleman, Elmo, Shotton etc.) but could also suddenly get dropped/rotated.

        I guess it could be worth taking the risk!

      Assuming you're a QPR fan, is there any danger of Taarabt not starting games right now? With the likes of Hoillett (who I reckon could play his role) and Zamora & Cisse (if they fo 4-4-2) about, maybe he'll be subject to some rotation?

        Taarabt not starting? No chance of that happening. He'll play in the hole behind the striker in both the 4-3-3 or 4-4-1-1 formations and on the right when we play the traditional 4-4-2.
