Sky Sports Fantasy Game – Bonus Points Analysis

As mentioned previously, our Fantasy football coverage will also include a weekly article on the Sky Sports game as we look to broaden our analysis of the various games available to Fantasy managers this season. Having already assessed the Rules, the Player List and broken down last season’s Man of the Match awards, the next article analyses the introduction of the new bonus points system, which awards players who make 60+ completed passes and/or 4+ successful tackles in any given Gameweek.

Unlike the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Sky Sports use Opta data for analysing player performance – making it a perfect accompaniment for our Members section data. For that purpose, we’ve created custom tables in the Members Area which highlights the main protagonists from 2011/12, indicating the respective haul each player would have accrued in bonus points alone were the rule in place last season. These statistics are not available in the Sky Sports game, or anywhere else, giving our members a real edge when it comes to selecting their initial squads.

With two points for 60+ passes and another two points for 4+ tackles, it’s clear that the new bonus system will have a definite impact in how we approach the task of setting up our teams for the season ahead. Bearing in mind that the Points Scoring system allocates five points for a goal or a Man of the Match award and three points for an assist, identifying those players who are capable of producing the bonus points looks almost as vital.

Unsurprisingly, given the bonus criteria, nine of the top ten are midfielders, while Swansea’s passing game under Brendan Rodgers sees as many as three of their players also feature in the upper echelons, with one hovering just outside…

      similar to mine altho i keep swapping Cazorla to Michu - Graham to Podolski.....then i swap back again......and the pattern repeats itself upto 10 times a frickin day!!!! I also have Pienaar instead of larsson as Sunderland have ZERO attack at the moment so assists will be non existent! Good team tho, nice balance

          I think I prefer Podolski to Cazorla.

          I also don't think Everton really offer much in the way of attack and can't see Pienaar scoring big this season. I have not followed Everton's preseason games, how ha she looked since his return?

    Isn't there a real danger of Rooney gaining value after GW1 and Torres going the opposite direction?

      If that does happen it gives those people 2M of float money to spend on bandwagons and any players that seem to be performing exceptionally well.

      On the flip side, it could mean not spending that money straight away could limit returns.

      No one knows.

        Depends if you're going to play him or not. I've gone with Guthrie in my team but only because I will only play him when he comes on as 'auto-sub' ... if I was going to rotate a player into my team I would spend the extra .5 and get Noble.

    With Kolarov's undoubted potential from this new wing back role and given the outstanding returns that he offered within the limited time he played last season (73 points from just 823 minutes played) ... is he worth having in your team all season, having him replaced by your 'auto-sub' defender when he doesn't play and hoping he gets quite a bit more game time than last year?

    Even if he played every other week in this more advanced role at home and/or against the weaker sides, surely he has the potential to score a massive total. What do you all reckon?

        Well last season I noticed that in the few times he did bring him off the bench, it tended to be when the game was won and he used to keep bombing forward so that wouldn't necessarily put me off if that was in between games where he was starting, although I do agree that it isn't the best situation having a 6m player coming off the bench for only 25 mins!

        Not a risk worth taking then?... cheers for your advice.

                There are a LOT of problems in that team, as he will discover in GW2.

                  Freidel, Nasri, 3 x CHE stand out as early transfers he will need to do.

                    The first problem is a Chelsea defender. This is madness, imo. Still, if you wild card, all problems are solved, I suppose.
                    Goalkeeper risk.
                    His midfield may not figure much.
                    His defence is a mess, imo.

                    i wanted 7.0M defender so i could get Baines in gw 3 or 4

                    and i really like my defence

                    3 big hitters and 3 cheap players who rotates perfectly

    DDG – Federici
    Lescott – Hangeland – Saylor – Demel – Barnett
    Nasri – Hazard – Michu – Maloney – Guthrie
    Aguero – Torres – Graham

    3.5m spare for Nasri -> Silva an Torres -> Rooney

    I am having troubles freeing up an additional 1.0m for torres -> rvp rather than rooney

        I want Bale long term, so i'm either bringing in Bale or Cazorla gw2 for Mata. I did consider VDV, but i know i will have to use a transfer on him at some point!

    ok folks can we afford to have Rooney AND RvP alongside Tevez, do we settle for one or the other (with Tevez or Aguero) or do we say that it's not worth having either.

    I have the Torres, Tevez, Rooney axis atm, can dump Torres for RvP for GW2 by dropping Lamps and Zabaleta to Ramires and Hangeland/Williams. Still have VdV as a midfield big hitter? Worth it, or dump Rooney to Bent and get Nani?

      Planning a Lamps to Ramires transfer doesn't make sense :/. Rather just start with Ramires, imo likely to outscore Lamps.

      For now I would wait on the whole RVP vs Rooney saga. I still think Kagawa will have a role to play and this could be the key in determining United's tactics. I think RVP will probably turn out to be a better buy than Rooney, because SAF is more likely to use Rooney in non striker positions as he loves his versatility. So keep some cash in reverse and observe 🙂

      Also keep the City defender.
