Sky Sports Fantasy Game – Bonus Points Analysis

As mentioned previously, our Fantasy football coverage will also include a weekly article on the Sky Sports game as we look to broaden our analysis of the various games available to Fantasy managers this season. Having already assessed the Rules, the Player List and broken down last season’s Man of the Match awards, the next article analyses the introduction of the new bonus points system, which awards players who make 60+ completed passes and/or 4+ successful tackles in any given Gameweek.

Unlike the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Sky Sports use Opta data for analysing player performance – making it a perfect accompaniment for our Members section data. For that purpose, we’ve created custom tables in the Members Area which highlights the main protagonists from 2011/12, indicating the respective haul each player would have accrued in bonus points alone were the rule in place last season. These statistics are not available in the Sky Sports game, or anywhere else, giving our members a real edge when it comes to selecting their initial squads.

With two points for 60+ passes and another two points for 4+ tackles, it’s clear that the new bonus system will have a definite impact in how we approach the task of setting up our teams for the season ahead. Bearing in mind that the Points Scoring system allocates five points for a goal or a Man of the Match award and three points for an assist, identifying those players who are capable of producing the bonus points looks almost as vital.

Unsurprisingly, given the bonus criteria, nine of the top ten are midfielders, while Swansea’s passing game under Brendan Rodgers sees as many as three of their players also feature in the upper echelons, with one hovering just outside…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

The Fanasy Team of 2012 I present

I would really appreciate hearing your views

    jaasky/fed
    Zab/A.Cole/hangeland (Demel, Clyne)
    Bale/Mata/Lamps/Dyer/Guthrie
    Aguero/Tevez/Graham

    £0 in the bank

goalies suck, who cares. No one wins this off the back of the goalies and CLs are getting few and far between

    Defence, strong, balance

2 x Chelsea mids – Torres is an unreliable arse. seriously, would anyone really be surprises if he gets 4 points for the dgw?
The points will come from midfield as usual. Hence Mata and Lamps

forwards….graham..ok standard. but Aguero and Teves, they will tear Southampton apart. and i refuse to be the guy to make the wrong pick between the two.

now this is where the magic happens… i see lamps as a wild card, in combination with either Cole, Teves and Aguero. lamp plus one of them can be pretty much any 2 players i wont them to be. rooney, Rvp… who ever.

so i milk the dgw, milk the city game, no Tevez Aguero mistake. i can sit back swap lamps +1, for the form man u player or what ever with no gw 3 head aches – boom!!

I read your team and was worried I had posted this.

Same GK, defenders, 3 mids and Aguero/Tevez

I've gone for Pienaar, Noble and Torres over Lampard, Graham and Dyer - but I can see your arguments for your side.

If I were to go Torres -> Graham, I'd get Ireland for Guthrie (don't like the 4.5 in the team) and keep the 3.0 for optionality all around.

Former Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida urges Alex Song to consider joining Barcelona. Merida, who left the Nou Camp to join the Gunners in 2007, struggled to make an impact in the first team and eventually moved to Atletico Madrid in 2010.

Now playing for Segunda Division side Hercules, the 22-year-old tells COMRadio: "I think he is a player who can contribute a lot to Barcelona because he's a very good player. He has the physical characteristics and is not short of quality."

ok folks can we afford to have Rooney AND RvP alongside Tevez, do we settle for one or the other (with Tevez or Aguero) or do we say that it’s not worth having either.

I have the Torres, Tevez, Rooney axis atm, can dump Torres for RvP for GW2 by dropping Lamps and Zabaleta to Ramires and Hangeland/Williams. Still have VdV as a midfield big hitter? Worth it, or dump Rooney to Bent/Petric and get Nani?

Chelsea ST holder told me last week the onus will be on Mata and Hazard to get the midfield goals this year because Lampard will play from deep midfield.

But I'm not saying that Mata and Hazard will get the goals/assists because we all know how Lampard manages to get on the end of so many Chelsea moves.

          And he's on penalties too.

So good luck with that decision 🙂

I'd swap fonte and noble around on the bench, with Cuella 3rd sub

I'm still saving money for Rooney, but admit its not as attractive now. No chance of bringing in RVP at 13.0 even though I think he's going to have agreat year at MU.

i picked hazard, due to nail on ness, and increasingly lower ownership

Yeah good differential. Not sure if two Chelsea attacking options are necessary.
