The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 5 – Saturday

A mixed bag from Saturday’s action, as mid-price assets flourish and Eden Hazard stutters to disappoint his armband backers. Here’s the “Stock Check” from Gameweek 5 so far…

On the Up

Rickie Lambert
Southampton’s striker is well and truly in the mix for our third striker spot. We raised him in the Watchlist this week and Lambert lived up to his billing, gaining a brace in the 4-1 comeback victory over Villa. We anticipated his bandwagon – it looks like we’re going to get it.

Steven Fletcher
The Scot maintained his incredible form for the Black Cats, converting his fourth shot for his fourth goal to put Martin O’Neill’s side in front at Upton Park. Fletcher remains another candidate for our Fantasy forward lines, although again, Sunderland had just his one effort on target all afternoon.

Marouanne Fellaini
Yet again, Fellaini was outstanding for the Toffees: it’s tit-for-tat with the Belgian and Steven Pienaar who was also excellent in the 3-0 win at Swansea. Given Everton’s invigorated attacking form, there’s a case for considering both. For those wondering, we’d expect Pienaar’s assist to be awarded at some point.

Leighton Baines
We gambled on his Scout Picks selection for an away game but Baines duly delivered again. It was another display full of creativity, with the assist for Felliani’s goal and a clean sheet thrown in. We’ll keep on stressing this – if you’ve money to spend on your defence, spend it on Baines. If you haven’t money to spend on your defence, Baines is presenting a very good case to try and find it.

Kevin Nolan
A third strike of the season saw the Hammers rescue a late point again remind us all again of Nolan’s consistency as a mid-price midfield offering, with or without Andy Carroll leading the line.

Jason Puncheon
If you need a budget option in midfield, Puncheon just might be the man to rival Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling. The winger kept his place despite a debut for Gaston Ramirez and delivered his third goal of the season – at least we think he has – shortly after it was scored, the Press Association changed it to a Ciaran Clark own goal. We await the verdict on that one.

Going Down

Nathan Dyer
Dropped to the bench to make way for Pablo Hernandez’ debut, the spritely winger finally emerged for the second half with the Spaniard suffering a knee injury. Dyer didn’t last long, however, seeing red for two bookables to add further frustration for his concerned Fantasy owners.

The Swansea Defence
Five goals conceded in the two games since the injury to Neil Taylor. Chico will surely return to the back four for the trip to Stoke next weekend after he serves out his three-match ban in the Capitol One cup tie in midweek.

John Terry
Considered untouchable within the Chelsea back four, Roberto Di Matteo rested both him and Frank Lampard to the bench after the midweek Champions League exertions. Terry missed out on the shutout as Ashley Cole owners cleaned up.

Eden Hazard
Backed by the majority in our Captain Poll, the Belgian drew a blank and was replaced by Victor Moses on 61 minutes. Those who handed him the armband now face an uncomfortable Sunday as Robin Van Persie takes the field at Anfield. Decent returns for the Dutchman will again remind us all of his consistency as an armband option.

Fernando Torres
Still owned by 29% of Fantasy Premier League managers, a home fixture with Stoke looked like an opportunity to repay the faith that has remained following the Gameweek 1 double fixture. Sadly, as has often been the case, the Spaniard disappointed. With mid-price prospects flourishing – we can surely expect big sales ahead of Gameweek 6.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Will Friedel start next week? And even if he starts what the feck does it matter? He's away to MU. And my other keeper is Federici. 4 pt. hit coming up.

Yes, but I am still somewhat wary of Saints.

Next week Lamby could get the standard 2 pts and Berbs could notch against a Man City def that doesn't do cleanies anymore.

I think for anyone who doesn't already have it then getting Everton MF coverage or Baines may be more important than getting Lambert in this GW.

He's netted against both Manchester teams. That'll do for me. Southampton seem to score a few, they're just leaky. Agreed that maybe this week isn't ideal, but I'm sick of Pog, and I reckon Lambert will score similar to Berba.

I agree about La Liga. No idea what sh!t happened there.

Precisely what I'm saying! He won't score very often.

I know he's scored some goals so far this season. But not impressed me at all. Not had him so far, no plans to get him too.

not much rhythm to the Swans today, but Michu was in the box a fair amount. He wasn't all that threatening in the end, but he's in high positions and is a target for the team, so against lesser defense (w/o brilliant tim howard) he should still get returns

He's virtually their only striker, given that Graham is about as much use as a store dummy. But he's a card magnet.

I got rid today out of frustration - probably foolish given his fixtures, but we'll see.

Baines for ivanovic in a straight swap as I have the cash

my defense as of the moment is

And if Swansea keep giving up goals ,then Rangel is hardly worth 5...you could do Riise+Rangel -Baines + ....?

        Mata looked much better today.

I think the problem is that he had 2 very easy games to kick off the season and he and Torres looked like world beaters in them. The win against Newcastle kind of made him and Chelsea look better than they probably are.

However, since then they have come up against 2 resolute teams in QPR and Stoke and he and Torres haven't looked as great.

Now may be the time to cash in as most people would have made some money on Hazard. There are good options out there who are not rotation/gametime risks and will earn decent points every week.

Michu is another one whose early games made him appear better than he probably is. Which is why its good to hold off on using the WC until a definite pattern emerges.

            Conisdering him myself, Corrigan.

After the Swansea debacle Hughes looks like he will make Loftus Rd a fortress again and there are some nice games coming up for us now.

Think it will be him and MBia eventually in CD. I would play him over Anton if MBia is good enough to play CB in the Prem tbh. Can't go wrong at £3.9m really, can you?

Every year there are early leaders who fall away.
One of Hazard's goals was a pen. that Lampard was not on for... so how good is he really ;). I agree though ,pondering whether it is time to cash in.

I watched Baines for the first time against Reading and I can honestly say the guy is a fruiting genius on the ball. So much skill and vision almost Messi like----Yes I said it Messi like,

Trouble with many a footballer is they lack brain capacity---he however is a clever little punter.

I feel terrible having to drop a Chelsea defender but Oct.I wll bring in Baines. It's a no brainer!

While I can't compare him to Messi I can say he's a one off, no one plays like him. He doesn't play like a cross machine, which is what most fullbacks try. He has the nimble intelligence to work the ball into the box and the positional intelligence to cover his back.

Having seen it again, it looks like Pienaar's cross is deflected off Williams who's outside the box, so no assist given.

Annoying, but if that's the rules than that's understandable. (Pienaar owner).

The assists can be change up to the end of the GW. Just saw the goal in question and am amazed no assist was given. The Sterling one last week was given in similar circumstances, unless FPL are claiming it can hit a player but not a post???

People can bitch and moan about others 'going on about it' but I'd be very interested to hear what part of the rule excludes a Pienaar assist being awarded.
