The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 10 – Saturday Part Two

City’s unbeaten run stretches to 10 games but their toils in front of goal continue, with a goalless draw at Upton Park. Sergio Aguero is handed a sub role yet again, while Andy Carroll draws yet another blank for the hosts:

On the Up

City Defence
This evening’s goalless draw maintained the champions’ recent upturn in defensive resilience. It’s three clean sheets and just one goal conceded in the last four Gameweeks now for Roberto Mancini’s men – the likes of Chelsea and United have one clean sheet apiece in the last six, by comparison.

West Ham Defence
A first clean sheet in six was just rewards for the home side’s resilient efforts. Sam Allardyce will be buoyed by his team’s ability to nullify City’s threat but with Guy Demel still sidelined and James Tomkins missing out through injury, the Hammers boss will be hoping James Collins can shake off a knock which forced him off towards the end, given their upcoming schedule.

Going Down

Sergio Aguero
With a vital Champions League game against Ajax in midweek, Aguero was benched yet again for this evening’s trip to Upton Park. Roberto Mancini started with three of his four forwards and while the Argentine was afforded some game time late on, he has now been omitted from the City first XI in three of the past four Gameweeks – despite his obvious capabilities, Aguero has simply become far too frustrating a Fantasy option right now, with his manager’s up front rotation dramatically curtailing his appeal.

Andy Carroll
His loan move to West Ham, which saw the towering centre-forward reunited with Sam Allardyce, was hailed as the perfect fit. The Hammers’ tactics seemed tailor-made for Carroll, with delivery from wide guaranteed to create chances aplenty in the air but it hasn’t quite transpired as Allardyce would have hoped. Another blank today means Carroll has just one assist in six appearances since making his way to Upton Park.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

fair enough, but a fit demel on your bench is a decent shout. if he's out for 2 more weeks and you've cover elsewhere, then i'd sit and wouldn't waste a transfer.

    ON THE UP

    Kevin Mirallas
While only the true flairmongers of the community dare buy this Belgian and his dodgy moustache he delivered another brilliant assist today, his third of the season. That number can only bettered by four strikers, three of them considerably more expensive. Being taken off at half-time last game after numerous assaults by an as of yet unnamed Uruguayan he promptly took to the field today as determined as ever to show David Moyes that he is 'much better than that n00b(sic) Nicklas Jelavic'.

I'm leaning towards that as well but my ML leader has Rafael so it's basically just following. Also afraid of potential rotation soon with Smalling/Jones considering the fairly low difficulty of our next 5-6 fixtures.

I would not pick Valencia. He is bang out of form atm and doing the exact opposite of all the things that made him almost essential last year

Bit early to start thinking of next year already, but Seamus Coleman will be a great option for only 5.0 once he's classified as a defender again next year

Just need Ba to not start and WBA to batter Southampton and 50 points this week will be a massive score. Unlucky on the trannie but looking today it seems to be a wise move long term

Low 20s I suspect. RVP, Cazorla apart, too many failures this week.

Apologies to Riise owners. A yellow card, injury and sub-60-minute performance are all signs that I got him in this week.

He can probably take solace by the fact he's beating me. And he's probably three.

So to enter the PP cup you need to score a grand total of 18 😆

In all seriousness, this game is largely luck.

If you have two keepers this week, Howard & Jassi...

99% of people would think that Howard is more likely to do better.

BUT Jassi keeps a CS against City, while Howard scores an own goal & concedes two...

There is a lot of luck involved, a hell of a lot, but there is some skill also. That's the fun it and, unlike gambling, it's free 🙂

Maybe, but Howard is away at the 3rd highest scorers in the league and a team with a good home record. West Ham's home record is good and city have been struggling for goals.

Luck plays a big factor. Skilled players should be in a good position by the end of the season but you can certainly miss out on a lot of points by a narrow margin. I have Boyce third sub, you think Baines would have done better.

Once you get to a high level. There are probably people out there with Hart and De Gea in goal.

Wen you spend enough time on it to post here, luck comes into it.

For example some people here today would have had jussi, fellaini, Cazorla & RVP(c) and that seems to be about as much as you can hope for from this week. They got lucky over some others but they're pretty decent picks to begin with. Maybe they had Caz where you had Mata but it's not like they captained Gerrard or something.
