Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adam Lallana

When Southampton manager Nigel Adkins told Adam Lallana he had been called up by England manager Roy Hodgson for the World Cup qualifier with Ukraine in September, the 24 year-old midfielder thought his boss was joking. Even though he plays for an unfashionable club and has only a handful of Premier League appearances under his belt, the call-up was genuine and shows just how highly-regarded the Saints captain is becoming:

Having joined the club as a 12-year-old, Lallana has shown a keen eye for goal, scoring 37 times in 175 appearances, while a constant source of left flank creativity has produced 11 and 13 assists respectively in Southampton’s last two seasons. Already this term, Lallana has scored once in the Premier League and has also notched up four assists to take his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) tally to 39 points, with 37 points also accrued in the Sky Sports game.

With a price tag of 6.0 in FPL and 4.9 in the Sky game, Lallana is priced attractively and has a kind run of fixtures on his side (SWA, qpr, NEW, NOR, liv, REA). This should offer Adkins’ side the perfect opportunity to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat at West Brom last Monday saw them slip to the foot of the Premier League table, with just one win and 28 goals conceded thus far.

Despite the team’s poor form and woeful defence, Southampton are still grinding out attacking chances. This indicates that even if the team lose, Lallana and Southampton’s attacking assets could still benefit from that upcoming schedule. They have only failed to score twice so far and with 14 goals accrued, have found the net more often than 10 other Premier League teams including Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham.

While Gaston Ramirez offers another alternative in the Saints midfield and Rickie Lambert is bound to acquire interest up top, Lallana’s strong source of consistency gets the nod; he has produced attacking returns in five of his opening 10 Gameweeks. Indeed, for those looking for a cheap to lower mid-priced midfielder, Lallana is among the best on offer; only Swansea’s Wayne Routledge has scored more FPL points in the 6.0 and below category.

So Carroll, Nolan and Allardyce head back to Newcastle on Sunday.

Maybe a shock 1-0 to West Ham.

    How are Walters owners feeling?

So tempting to get Gaston Ramirez in instead, but hard to sell Walters with his fixtures coming up.

I have a FT, should I do it?

I have Walters - concerned about whether he will play and if he does may not get a full game, but you can't really take him out with the fixtures he has. If he does nothing this week and gets subbed around 60mins or worse then he is out.

In answer don't use the transfer on Walters this week and if you can save it then re-assess with 2 free transfers next week.

    Good afternoon people...

Here is my team for this week. Any thoughts or ideas O'wise ones?

    Begovic (Foster)
    Baines(c) Cameron Hangeland (Cuellar Demel)
    Hazard Cazorla Michu Sterling (Noble)
    Tevez Lambert RVP(vc)

    2FT - 0.6m in the bank account

I'm thinking maybe Hazard > Mata in order to fund Hangeland > Rafael

Any thoughts much appreciated. Cheers boys/girls

It's debatable, really. Ramirez is still new to the country and yet to completely adapt unlike Fellaini and Nolan. Lallana provides more consistent returns. There's not much between the two, but I am not fully sure whom I should go for. I am sure I will be picking the wrong one though.

well the 2 games before injury ramirez was described as unplayable against villa at home and then at everton he scored a header from a corner which shows he can mix it i guess and he also missed a sitter so couldve had double figures

Hey Guys I am new to this site and would appreciate some feedback on the team as well as help with this week's transfer.
    My current team is:

    Mignolet (Jussi)
    Rafael, McAuley, Wilkinson, Gorkss (Clyne)
Michu (vc), Cazorla, Bale, Pienaar (Sterling)
    RVP (c), Tevez (Defoe)

I have a FT and 1.4 in the bank. I am thinking either:
    A) Play Defoe (against city) instead of Gorkss
    B) Defoe > Ba and bench Gorkss
    C) Defoe > Jelavic and bench Gorkss
    D) Leave as is and make 2 transfers next week ? ( Was hoping to do Tevez to Suarez next week)

    Thanks

Start McCarthy (Newcastle Away) or Riise (Aresnal away)

Both tough fixtures, can't see either having clean sheets, West Ham would have a slightly better chance. Riise probably has better attacking potential though

Tell me about it. I am finding it hard to decide between the two, too. The way I see things :

Lallana - Safe pick, will give you consistency but not an explosive option.

Ramirez - If you like to gamble, he is your man. It's either hit or miss with him.

Of course this is the blog and not Wenger but:

"Given the manner in which injuries have accumulated in recent weeks it’s pretty obvious the boss has had no choice but to keep playing both Cazorla and Podolski when he might have been tempted to give one or other of them a rest."

He made similar comments with RVP last season and he only benched him once.

Hey everyone, need some help. Can't for the life of me make a decision on my starting 11. Was thinking of doing:
    Begovic (Vorm)
    Ivanovic, Rafael, Jagielka (Shawcross, Jenkinson)
Mata (C), Gaston Ramirez, Ben-Afra, Fellaini (McAnuff)
    Tevez, Defoe, Ba

Not sure on my defence. Can't see Chelsea keeping a clean sheet with Suarez in the form he's in. Should I drop Ivanovic for Shawcross since Stoke have a decent fixture? Thanks
