The Watchlist – David Silva

Following a three-match absence through injury, David Silva arrived back in the nick of time for Manchester City’s Gameweek 11 home clash with Spurs last weekend, giving his team a much needed fillip and Fantasy managers a reminder of his sublime talent.

As the game looked to be stuttering to a 1-1 draw it took an 87th minute spark of genius from Silva to win the match, as he brilliantly exchanged passes with substitute Edin Dzeko and his final, killer ball to the Bosnian was duly slammed home. In addition to the assist, Silva also received two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points for his efforts in turning the game around and accrued a modest but significant seven-point total to herald a welcome top-flight return.

Since his opening day penalty miss at home to Southampton and subsequent 71st minute substitution Silva has struggled to recapture the stunning 2011/12 form that saw him rack up a total of 184 points. With just two assists to his name prior to Gameweek 11 it was clear that injury and fatigue, from a summer helping Spain win Euro 2012, were in danger of scuppering his third season in the English top flight. Two substitute cameos in his first four matches and only 90 minutes on three occasions so far this season have prompted managers to discard him in their droves and has seen his price plummet from 10.0 to just 9.3 in the FPL game. In the Sky Sports game, where no such price market exists, he is still the top priced midfielder at 9.0.

Until Sunday’s return, he had become something of a forgotten man for Fantasy managers, owned by only 4.6% of managers in the FPL game and 6.59% in the Sky game. It is a situation that is set to change over the coming weeks, however, as Silva seems certain for starts and is clearly re-energised from his short lay-off.

Silva also looks to be a key player among the ranks of premium priced midfielders for Gameweek 12, in which Man City host Aston Villa. In comparison to his Spanish countrymen Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla, he has not been selected to endure the international side’s gruelling 28-hour round trip for an away friendly with Panama and is primed to delight those managers who have recruited him this week.

Following the Aston Villa game though fixtures are not ideal for Man City (che, wig, EVE, MAN, new), but as arguably the key player in a team vying to retain the Premier League title, tricky opponents should not cause too much concern for Silva. His return is not only ideal for City, it also affords the opportunity to shake up our five-man midfields with a bona fide top Fantasy performer for those looking for an alternative to the likes of Mata, Cazorla, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard in the premium bracket.

Oh my god your team is awful: Because your front 8 is beyond perfection. It's a waste of money and a waste of massive points on bench on your unlucky weeks (probably 1 in 5 weeks at the very least).

Got rid of Aguero before the past weekend as I'm bringing in Silva next week. He kissed me goodbye with a 9 point haul. I don't care for your goal, Silva is king now (assists will be provided for whichever striker play up front and assured game time).

    Begovic

    Baines, Wisdom, Simpson

    Bale, Morrison, Mata, Hoilett

    Ba, Rooney, Aguero

    Tremmel, Maloney, Wilkinson, Cuellar

0.2 in the bank Might do Bale to Silva this week, free's up funds to get Giroud in soon and upgrade Hoilett to Ramirez next week.

I realise Wisdom is a rotation risk now, so Hughes may come in soon or an alternative. Baines would want to get on his bike with returns soon.

Thinking about what transfers to make in the next few weeks…

    A) Naughton + Pienaar > Cuellar + McCleary/McAnuff

    B) Defoe + Santi > Nolan + Suarez

    C) Defoe + Naughton > Giroud + Gunter

    D) Defoe + Santi + Pienaar > Giroud + Silva + Morrison

    E) Kieron Dyer

    Thanks

Thoughts on Snodgrass people. The underlying stats are very impressive and he's only 5.8

But I could just as easily get a Sunderland mid in for

ful, WBA QPR, nor, DGW, then get Snodgrass

Sunderland and Norwich are both struggling for goals. Snodgrass is a decent pick though, way better than Sunderlands players in that price range...

All rate, fellas, have a number of transfers I'm looking to do and I'm desperate for advice from the intelligent and good-looking people on this site. My team:

    Jussi/Begovic
    Baines, Rafa, Cuellar, Gorkss, Davies
    Hazard, Santi, Pienaar, Morrison, Sterling
    RVP, Ba, Crouch

I have 0.0 in the bank and two freebies.

For this week, I'm thinking Hazard-->Mata and Crouch-->Berbs

    OR

Santi-->Fellaini and Crouch-->Giroud (will need some Arsenal exposure)

Both of these transfers are very tenuous since they'll leave me with close to nothing in the bank. Any additional thoughts?

The players I covet right now are Fellaini, Nolan, Giroud, Suarez, Berbatov, maybe a couple of others.

    Any help would be much-appreciated.

Anyone trying for a front three of Ba/Berb/Suarez? I know there's not enough RVP in that, but by god does it free up funds... You can actually have 4 big hitters in mid + baines & rafa at the back along with good squad players! Id be tempted if i had a wildcard

I'm a week or two off getting silva, but he's very tempting player to get in now. Barring injury a real steady source of points with regular assists and the odd goal. I see him and mata as perhaps the best premium mid selections for players like me who like to keep risks to a minimum.
