Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Casualty

As you’ll have seen in Sunday’s Scout Notes, Fantasy favourite Marouane Fellaini was the big casualty of accrued yellows this week. A booking in the 2-1 loss at Reading tipped the Belgian over the five-card line and into the ban list for Gameweek 13 – the pileous purveyor of Fantasy points will now miss the visit of a buoyant Norwich and hand his 36.9% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners a midfield conundrum this weekend.

Elsewhere on the tightrope, we saw a couple of new faces arrive, with Wigan captain Gary Caldwell the first to fill the void left by the aforementioned Belgian, as his fourth yellow of the season added him to an ever-growing list, while in Sunday’s game at Craven Cottage, the only player with three cautions to his name – Steve Sidwell duly delivered another indiscretion and will receive his tightrope invitation in the Monday morning mail.

On to Monday night and a plethora of players blink wildly on the tightrope office radar system, as West Ham host Stoke in a game that could justify a couple of extra paragraphs should the cards fall a certain way. On the home side, we already have the defensive pairing of James Collins and Winston Reid primed on four bookings, just one slip from a week off, while midfielder Mark Noble sits one away from tightrope notoriety on three. The visitors see a trio of protagonists alongside Noble on three bookings, with Charlie Adam, Ryan Shawcross and Andy Wilkinson also ready to climb aboard.

Welcoming Fellaini into suspension land (no doubt to compare grooming tips), we still have Fabricio Coloccini sitting out the third match of his ban in Gameweek 13. The Newcastle skipper will be followed swiftly through the door by the sheepish pair of Tottenham’s Togolese striker, Emmanuel Adebayor and Fulham’s Texas-born Norwegian, Brede Hangeland, after their game-changing straight red cards bring three game bans that will stretch well into December.

8,5M for 2 cheap defenders in my defense, which combo would you recommend?

Next week with 8p hit I can fill this team

    Begovic / Foster

    XXX / YYY / Cuellar / Demel / Nelsen

    Walcott / Mata / Bale / Silva / Guthrie

Suarez / Ba / Van Persie

(Will downgrade Foster --> 4M GK later to upgrade Guthrie or another defender.)

Shorey has one assist for a so-called attacking full back. Was class in earlier Reading FF times. Check Gorkss recent FF points and he's cheaper. Reading will concede though sooner or later.

If Clark's price drops to 4.3 get him and Turner. Not great CS prospects, despite Norwich's recent defensive displays, but both are good for thge odd goal.

I'm not a member. I'm not saying Shorey is that bad, kept him in FF when he was at Villa thinking he'd provide handy points. He didn't. If Reading defence keep improving as they are and as well as they were in Championship then Shorey could be a decent option. I'm not convinced that they will. I dunno if Gorkss will be nailed-on cos I'm looking purely at FF stats, which are quite good the past few weeks 🙂

He is nailed on and hogs set pieces for Reading, he was a squad player with no set pieces at Villa and barely played. The two shoreys are not comparable.

Fair point Jonty, cheers. Like I said I was a big fan of his in days of old. Maybe with Federici back their CS ratio will improve though I remain unconvinced. But a few assists from a 4.1m FB is just what I need for Christmas. Will keep a close eye on Nicky 🙂

It's so annoying not having City coverage but the only way I can see myself being able to do it is either to downgrade RVP, downgrade Baines or swap Mata for Silva which would mean no Chelsea coverage and therefore the same issue.

Any body else in the same boat?

    Afternoon!

    Begovic • Foster
    Baines • Rafael • Cameron • Davies • Demel
    Bale • Cazorla • Pienaar • Sterling • Maloney
    RVP • Tevez • Berbatov

2 FTs, 0.5 in the bank.

Might as well keep Pienaar for Nor, so Demel to Cuellar? Leaves me 0 in the bank, so if I did want to change Pienaar next week there aren't too many options...

Yeah, there's not a lot of options to replace Pienaar for 7.1, though. Nolan has awful fixtures, don't rate Sunderland at all for attacking players (AJ or Larsson), maybe Morrison at WBA?

So get Walcott, or Cazorla. I would prefer RVP Ba Suarez Tevez and Berbatov. Only RVP out of that bunch is far more expensive. With Fellaini you get the midfielder with the highest goal threat in an attacking team who are scoring goals against anyone, he dominated United and can't see too much different with Arsenal/Spurs. At 7.5 or whatever people have him at there is nobody better for cheaper, and only Michu and to a certain extent Nolan come close within a 1.5M price range.

Not so sure that he's "sure to be rested"..Dzeko is a sub, that's all he's good for at the moment. Tevez offers more overall to City than anyone bar Yaya and maybe Silva. He's been rested once all season and it resulted in their first points drop at home in quite a while. Mancini isn't stupid and you can tell he wants to play his best team. I've not got Tevez, I might bring him in, I'm just saying.

Had a good week, slightly miffed about the RVP fail when I had Tevez and Silva in my team but hey there you go.

This weekend threw up a couple of new ideas. What do we think of either of these transfers this week:

    A) Pienaar -> AJ
    B) Sagna -> Enrique

B seems knee-jerky given the haul but Pool have a good run of fixtures and an OOP Defender is always a good buy. Still confident Arsenal will pick up quite a few cleanies but not sure Sagna can match Enrique's attacking potential.

Pienaar out ain't a bad move but not for AJ just yet. If Johnson hits form get him then. But I'd keep him for Norwich game, he'll play more offensive with Fellaini out. Don't sell Sagna for another while and definitely not for Enrique. His exploits on left wing v a poor Wigan has blown his reputation out of all proportion. Will prob be Reds 2nd choice LB soon.

Cheers. Yeah, I've realised Enrique probably won't hold his position at LM.

Thats exactly my thinking on Pienaar and porbably the reason I'll keep him. Watching the MOTD highlights worried me though - he barely broke a sweat, was happy to pass it on and not get forward. AJ has hit form already imo - I know they were against 10 men but he put it lots of fantastic balls and almost scored.

True, I was waiting for one for Hazard for weeks.

I only mention it because you're considering taking one out. It's not the be all and end all, but it can be the source of cheap points.

I highly doubt i will get rid of him, it's just amazing what you can do. But then, you could argue that Nolan, Fellaini and Michu are matching the big hitting midfielders making them pointless right now.

scoring one week doesnt make you a season keeper, he was great value beofre because everton used to keep CS, but have more attacking outlook now, so don't have them. The fact he took pens etc was the added bonus, now people are relying on that being his main contribution. Just too expensive for that, when spare cash could mean a suarez or a silva

Penalties is one area, free kicks and corners too.

His creativity is massive too . He's created 50 chances. Next defender on that list is Shorey with 24.

What classes as a chance created though? A cross into a dangerous area? Or does the pass actually have to find a teammate who has an effort on goal?

Correct me if I'm wrong - the problem with chances created is that any kind of cross in the box counts as a chance created so while Baines has created a lot of chances his stats might be slightly inflated.

It's different, there is a stat called crosses succeeded.

This is clear cut chances created. Basically the ones that Sandra Redknapp could put away.

Obviously subjective, but not the same as a succeeded cross.

I'm not quite getting the rush to buy into the Norwich defence. Sure, they've excelled lately in their home games but the only CS they've had away from home was at Reading.

They only have two home games in the next six. Are people only buying for those two games?

He will keep it for next week, long term i'm not sure. Heard he only got the spot cause Assaidi picked up a late injury. Assaidi has being impressive when he has played in the Europa league.

After that last performance, Enrique will hold the spot, but I would not bet my house on it being long term. Wait and see for a few GW's imo.

Morrison 60 points, 3 behind Nolan and 4 behind Bale.

      Only 6.3% ownership.

      Hernandez, 8,2,9,2,9, last few scores.

Only 0.6% ownership and haven't heard a peep about him on here.

Maybe Mark and Granville should name drop them in the Cast, that usually drives the hype up! (E.g. Kolerov..oh dear)

Feel like I've backed myself into a corner a bit with a lot of injuries and 0.0m in the bank, so I'm looking at a -8pt "long term" reshuffle.

Foster, Gibbs, Walters > Gazzaniga, Shorey, Walcott

I'd be very satisfied with this team for a long time, but is the hit worth it?

Do you need to do them all at once?
If this is a long-term strategy then do them in stages so you don't take a hit.
You've got Bego so Foster is not urgent, you've got 4 fit defenders so Gibbs isn't urgent but you need the cash to get Walcott.....
I would shift Gibbs out this week and then re-assess next week

Afternoon. Another red. Another week my team looks rubbish. Missing out on all the decent bandwagons and trying to be clever isn't working. Missed out on Fellaini/Suarez/Michu when they were cheap and now can't afford them on the whole. Team is as follows:

      Schwarzer / Al-Habsi
      Sagna / Boyce / Baines / Gorkss / Demel
Mata / Sterling / Bale / Gera / Santi Cazorla
Jelavic / Cisse / Van Persie

1 FT, £0.8m in the bank.

I need to ditch Gera and Cisse but there are no decent cheap options that I can see. Do you think I should ditch Bale/Mata/Baines in order to upgrade one of them? Or other sensible options? Lambert looks quite appealing.

Get on the Baines-out wagon to fund your upgrades

Hmm I could get Tevez and Cuellar or Suarez and Stam?

Something is telling me that losing Mata until the January WC could be a good move. Chewls have such a busy schedule coming up.

Getting rid of Cisse has to be your priority.

Also, do something about Schwarzer. I think Martin Jol must have been to Kevin Keegan's Klever Konference to find out how to win football games.

Not to mention Boyce and Al-Habsi. It's a mess.

Van Persie to Rooney for the next two. Then Aguero after that.

Upgrade Gera to Morrison at some point.

Downgrade Sagna to Turner or something. Giroud in for Jelavic. Berbatov in for Cisse.

Do it incrementally and at appropriate turns.

It carries some risks, but such is life.

Ps. Rooney statistically does better at home then RVP, hence that advice. Think you could make a quick profit, then move to Aguero longterm.

Jelavic to Giroud in 2 weeks is definite.

Not keen on losing RVP it's classic knee-jerkiness.

That's Disse not Pisse by the way. Berbs may come in in 3 weeks time but there needs to be at least some placeholder there in the mean time.

What price you get RVP at out of interestest. That would heavily influence my decision on him.

He was predicted for some regression though, so it's not a big shock he has not scored as much.

Keep then I suppose, but keep an eye on those numbers. If he continues only getting 4 shots a game, it is probably time to move on for someone like Aguero who is a few million cheaper and carries a near equal threat.

Cisse to Ba/Giroud. I would go Ba because you already have Santi. Then after the Norwich fixture you can get rid of Jelavic and upgrade Gera.

Right. Decided to ship Pienaar this week after a very poor display at the weekend. Probably not the most popular picks but I've whittled down my choices to replace Pienaar to Hernandez and AJ. Michu will come in after he gets his 5th yellow.

      Hernandez: LIV WBA ars NOR
      AJ: WBA QPR nor CHE+RDG

Fixtures are pushing me towards AJ, anybody prefer Hernandez?
