The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Five – Rush

Rush. The best form of goalkeepers for the playground. A long-haired Canadian prog-rock outfit. A mustachioed goal sniffer and, sadly, a description of how Granville and myself had to approach this latest episode of the podcast.

With our studio slot limited, we had to skinny things up and turn this one out double-time. Nonetheless, in 26-minutes, we touched on all the regulars, whilst scattering the silence in between with the usual sniping between the pair of us. It makes you wonder what we waste the other twenty minutes on every week.

Not to worry. Enjoy what you can of this little taster and look ahead to next week’s full-fat return, when we’re planning a new feature and a new voice.

These are the games i think will be in doubt. They are mainy matches in the north or wales.

    Lpool Vs Nor
    ManC Vs Ful
    Newc Vs Read
    Swans Vs Stoke
    Wigan Vs Sunderland

My sister who lives in West Brom also says it's been snowing heavily so

WestB Vs Villa could be a doubt

yep although its gonna be cold throughout england, with a heavy risk of ice. This means theoretically all matches could be cancelled.

He looked a little too nailed on and Giroud got a lot of the ball against Swansea. I think he's due to convert one or two. I haven't been convinced by Podolski the last couple weeks either. I'm living on the edge this week.

Think Giroud could actually do quite well, had a bunch of chances against the Swans. Unfortunately they all fell on his right peg.

Seems to me the bulk of it will be Friday. All the major prem grounds (perhaps not Swansea) have undersoil heating so if any are canned it'll be due to unsafe surrounding roads/pavements.

The premiership has an aim of zero cancellations in a season so I can only see it happening if the UK converts to Siberia for the weekend.

Yrp matches should not be cancelled due to the pitch (though amusingly united required two pitch inspections before playing Newcastle in the festive period). The snow is a valid concern because it becomes ice, and then there is a public safety argument for not going ahead because the transport to and from the stadium might be unsafe.

    a)WC
    b)Lambert->Podolski, O’Brien/Nelsen/Shorey->Gibbs(4pts hit)
    c)Puncheon->Cazorla, O’Brien/Nelsen/Shorey->Demel(4pts hit)

    My team:
    Begovic
    Cameron OBrien Davies
    Walcott Mata Fellaini Michu
    Suarez Lambert RVP

    Foster Puncheon Shorey Nelsen
    5.9 in bank. 1FT. WC:Available.

I am leaning towards b) at the moment. Take a Podolski one week punt, then WC after that. I am ready to sell Lambert for my WC anyway, more comfortable with 343. But I just worried is it Podolski a better choice than Cazorla?

I'd say so yes, in the top 10 forwards and with a likely 70-80 minutes per game over two games this DGW (checking minutes played the 60 minutes claim is a big exaggeration) . Penalties are what really swing it IMO.

I have Ba too and am mulling over whether to get him or berb out for pod. It would be a surprise if he starts - benching Torres for 3 games is unthinkable. Course. You never know with benitez.

OK. That's different then. I can't answer that question, as its not a decision that i would make. I make all of my decisions on their individual merits. If I thought that both were the best option in their position, it wouldn't bother me that both play for chelsea. Unless that is i can't make a decision based on other factors. For example, on my WC, I am probably going to keep puncheon, which means that i have to lose one of the "power five". As I have Ba, this may be a reason to drop mata from the equation.

He should start, rotation will be down to him, his performance. I'm not holding my breath but hoping he proves me wrong as The Reds need more attacking options.

Yet to be clear there. I'd avoid till it's known how BR wants to use him.

      Sagna for value
Mata for consistency and the can't-hurt-him Spanish connection with Benitez

As neither are sure to play both games (pod a little more likely to), i wouldn't bother. I can't see Bentitez playing Ba in the easy games, then resting him for the difficult ones, so he should play on Saturday.

Mrs China Mag says that the real question is Torres > pod or giroud? Leaning towards Giroud.

The way I see it, giroud is more of a high risk = high potential reward pick.

Also, it helps with the walcott (c). If giroud doesn't play, then walcott will play up front = good news, if giroud does play then he has more points potential than pod = good news

having a good laugh at Chelsea fans on CFC Forum talking about Drogba in 2005

"Personally I'd take Heskey over Drogba. They are both Donkeys but Heskey can control a ball. Had to laugh when Drogba said he's just as good as Thierry Henry. The most absurd statement ever to be made in the history of the world. 24m, you're having a larf. "

"Am I the only one running out of patience with Drogba's lack of finishing? "

"I have had some doubts about Drogba since he came on board and am now convinced he's no Shevchenko nor Henry. His performance in today's game against West Brom was utter crap"

"We do need a world class striker and that should be a top priority for next season. Sorry for the negativity but I'm really upset with Drogba's performance. "

If there is no other info to consider, it is a no brainer. Ba will score the most goals between now and the end of the season. Easy.

But if he was looking at ba as his 2nd striker, plus a cheap 3rd striker, it would be different

So, this is week 2 of my Power Burst.

Did my WC last week. to take as much advantage as possible from the 2 double game weeks..
It has worked ok so far. Got 80 points which isnt massive but well above average.
    Moved from 180k to 130k.
4 solid green arrows now and need 5!
Looking for a huge one this week.

Then 2/3 transfers later to balance the side out.
No transfers this week for me..

    Szcez (Federici)
    Demel, Gibbs, Cole, (Clark, Martin)

Walcott (c), Nolan, Fellaini, Ramirez, Mata,

    Rvp, Ba, (Ruiz)

    Nothing in the account.
Thinking of getting in Lambert or Remy in the weeks ahead..
Downgrading Cole and maybe changing Wally or Mata..

Ba will score more this season (better long-term option), and Podolski won't score as much as Walcott or Cazorla I imagine. If you are just referring to the DGW, then obviously Pod will get two opportunities to score more points. I say keep Ba and get Walcott and/or Caz.

Is anyone else felling really smug about still having their main wild card to play?

china mag: i guess it comes down to this

    a) ba + clyne + pearce
    b) sturridge + dawson (or someone else 4.5 or less) + cueller
    c) lambert + zab + another big hitter probably

    rest of team would be:
    bego, bunn
    davies, and two of demel/wilson/martin
    mata bale walcott afro marveaux
    rvp aguero

Reading have signed two centre backs this window, so I would avoid investing in their defence until we know how they will line up

We know that one was signed as a central defensive midfielder and featured there this past week - Daniel Carrico.

        Stephen Kelly is a RB.

Think Mariappa at 3.8m is good value as a starting CB - he was the big summer acquisition from Watford right after promotion.

I think the Lambert combo offers better balance... I'd love to have Zaba right now...

You won't be able to factor marveaux into your rotaiton, meaning that you have to be happy starting yor 3rd striker every game. That would make the decision between ba and studg for me. If you can't do better than pearce with Ba, then maybe you should go with studge. As you already have marveaux who isn't nailed on, so you can't really afford a non playing defender. UNLESS you decide that you're willing to miss out on the odd 2 pointer when your 3rd sub is called upon, so that you can maximise the points in your starting 11 (ie Ba)
