Season Predictions 2013/14 – The View From The Scouts

We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

        Yes he did nothing with Arsenal, but he could have a solid season now for 5.0. The thing that bothers me with this plan is too many good options for 7-9 mil this season in strikers and I would be stuck with 14-7.5-5 mil combination of forwards which I don't like for now.

          Yeah there are so many great striker options that you don't really want to be relying on goals from a £5/5.5m one.

          Cheap value midfielders fit into the team better.

            RVP + 9m + 7.5m looks like a winning combo for this season in attack. IN 9m bracket its easy to switch from Benteke to Sturridge, Soldado, Giroud, Negredo, and in 7.5 Lambert could turn in one move to Carooll, Berbatov, Dzeko, RvW etc

        Wish i had him , if it wasnt for all those Chelsea players needing removal he would be straight in.

        Thing is though he does stay in the first team it may well be worth four points , Contemplating taking out hazard for him will make getting RVP for GW4 very easy

      Don't wildcard. Too many teams not nailed-on yet due to injuries/suspensions/rested after internationals etc and, more importantly no player form yet. Much easier to judge players when season is up and running and hopefully after January.

      You should have 11 for GW2. Make your 2 FT and see how many you need to make an 11 for GW3. But the choice is yours 😉

      4-4.5 priced players won't drop that much I guess. I myself have Mannone and I won't transfer unless it becomes clear that Mignolet will rise by .2 this very week. I think you can just keep Mannone, Tonev, Cuellar etc. in bench and make max 2 transfers. A wildcard will become handy after GW30, I am not going to use mine this early.

    Am I the only one expecting big things from Silva? Near essential in long stretches in his first year but had a poor second season. And now he seems like the forgotten man, only seen in teams because of City's pleasing fixtures.

    I expect him to thrive under the new coach and I think he is gonna be one of the top 3 midfielders this seasons.

    Really don't think it's me and my wistful thinking.

    A part of me (the weird part) kind of likes the idea of a defence of
    Cole, Coleman, Collins, Collo and Kolo
    Maybe even play Cole, Colback and Collison in midfield....

      There you go, Granville. Your scout team must have players starting with C or Co. I bet that team would garner more points than mine over the season. Especially if I keep benching 13 pointers and starting -2 pointers.

    I remember getting Adebayor in for GW 3 last year when Spurs played Reading, I think. Ade had signed on a permanent basis. He did not start. Stupid AVB played Defoe instead.

    Hope Soldado starts though. Much better player and should get off to a flying start with the proper supply line behind him

    How is everyone after the highs & lows of yesterday?

    Highs: deciding to double on Reds defence rather than bring in a Arsenal defender (would have been Kos too)

        Villas performance could result in less rotation in the Chelsea team.
        Mourinho cant afford to take it easy , Villa pose a significant threat
        especially with an extra days rest.

        Question is , will he rotate in the Hull game instead?

        If so we may well be in for a few selection shocks tomorrow

        So are there any stand out options from day1. Looking at the high scorers, all the options have too much of a "chasing points" feel to them.

        Mignolet - penalty save, rare bonus and I already have Glenda.
        Coleman - already have ty.
        Shaw - one-off bonus from CS and assist.
        Whittaker - Not assured of starts.
        Barkley - Rotation risk.
        West Ham mids - they played Cardiff.
        RVP - Too expensive.
        Benteke - Two penalties and fixture issues.

        Last year there were two or three stand-out picks but I don't see any this time round.

        I was thinking of bringing in RVP in GW3 but not sure if I should pull it out before price rises:
        Benteke-->RVP
        Coutinho --> Dembele/Cole
        A. Cole --> Shaw

        I will have 0.5 left after that to use in any possible upgrading.

        Need to free up my 1.5 for the blank.

        Is whitteker nailed on for Mert > Whit
        Or
        Cashley > Coleman or Collins

        Not changing yet, just considering options

            Cahill is taking his place. I didn't see that.
