Season Predictions 2013/14 – The View From The Scouts

We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

Just been plotting my RVP plan.
Very simple. Hazard out week 3, RVP in week 4.
RVP will be essential weeks 4-10.
Thats the weeks he will be worth sticking the armband on.
Seems rather simple to get him actually.
Just downgrade hazard and Chelsea defender weeks 2/3 is all I need to do. Even price rise is covered it seems.
Why did everyone make out it would be tough?

No. My view is £14m is fine when captain.
Weeks 1,2,3 he cant be captain, so I had no interest those weeks. Soon as week 10/11 comes, he's getting sold again.

Nope. Blank week 3 offers nothing.
Fixtures after too tough to merit benching him.
West ham mid for him week 3 me thinks.

Planned to get him in GW4.

Already have 4m in the bank. Will go A.Cole > 4.5 in the next 2 weeks & which will give me enough for Lukaku (or whoever I've got in by then) > RVP with no hits 🙂

Of course this is only a good plan if RVP doesn't rise 😀

        £4m?

I left £1m and its still easy

        Ivan to 4.5
        Lukaku to Aguero

        (0 bank0

        Hazard to a hammer wk3
        Aguero to RVP week 4

Spending the 4pts though. My plan is:

GW2: Lukaku > Negredo (or whoever looks best for Citeh)
          GW3: A.Cole > 4.5
          GW4: Citeh attack > RVP.

Got a little bit of leeway with the GW2 transfer too, could make him a 4.0 if RVP has increased/looks to.

        £6m in the bank 😯

The key to him I think will be to always have him or Aguero/Rooney/Suarez.
That means you are never too far from him if you want him in. RVP to Suarez week 11 for example. That looks about right if Suarez is back and playing.

I could never bank £6m for him.

DZ I need a couple of tips...

When do you make your transfers normally? End of gameweek? straight after the player you want in has finished their game?

If I win my work league I'll definitely become a member next season as a thank you xD (£62 manager of the month 31 players + 150/70/50/30/10 at end of season) I'm 5th but analysing opponents I'm set to be 1/2 at the end of the game week unless the nailed ons don't play... Ie Soldado hazard etc.

Bed time - let the games begin in 11h15!

Yes. That is correct - but I am playing vs others who equally don't know how to play.

What's the answer? I've already done mine for this week... Just wandered if it was best to wait to see if someone gets injured. Or buy now to avoid any price rises...

It's sort of an open question. Early transfers can help you build value, but there's the risk that one of the players in the transfer or else where in your team will get injured, transferred, arrested etc. I like to play it safe and usually wait until Friday night unless I won't be able to afford the move otherwise.

A lot who play know feck all about football and even less about fantasy. Therefore they pick players that they know. Big names like Cech and Bale and fill the rest of their team with players from their club or those with a high % selected. And yes, hugely annoying when they then beat you. haha. Great name Dzeko unchained too.

So, another season, another opening day disaster:

    Sessegnon instead of Nolan ✔
    Turner instead of Collins ✔
    Benched Seamus ✔
    No Benteke ✔
    No RVP ✔

It's going to be a long hard season. Still, Chelsea may well thrash Hull and Spurs should beat Palace so hopefully Salado will be in thick of it.

I woke up at 4:35 to watch 'pool and fell back asleep during the first half of the second set of matches, but what I saw looked good, and reports from others were that he looked sharp and was very active but just didn't have the chances today. I'm looking forward to seeing a bit more in the match day recap show NBC is airing here, but I expect to hold onto him for the foreseeable future. I will say that I expected Fellaini to be gone by now, and his presence my impact how willing I am to take chances on other Everton attackers.

See the URL on either your gameweek history or this weeks points. Change the number to 199.

    Help!

As I'm fast asleep when the games are played, I avoid the scores until I can d/l Match of the Day later in the day.

By the time I watch it though it's beyond the price change cut off. My transfer plan means I can't afford to miss a single 0.1 change for three weeks.

So can someone be kind enough to tell me if there are any significant bandwagons underway that will cause price rises/falls today to template players. DON'T INCLUDE NAMES, just a yes or no please, and if yes how many players going up or down.

    Thanks for your help.

I already know two teams that won, tends to be obvious when you see shirts being worn in Vancouver.
Thanks for the info, sounds as if there is one marginal player from combining your replies.

Actually just held my hand over the names on Fiso, and there's very few transfers.

Nobody is anywhere near. Highest riser is on 19% per FISO, prices change in about an hour.

dude yar going to find out the scores if you stay on here long enough, possibly yes, like one in particular, but your safe enough to wait until after match of the day comes online I'd say.

All these people with their high scores, I have 28 points.

I also have Hazard(c), Lukaku, Lampard, Soldado, Silva and Negredo. The fightback starts tomorrow.

Yeah just a bit frustrated. Could have been superb had I played Shaw over Murner. I bet on Southampton to win and Norwich to draw as part of my accumulator as I thought that would happen, rather stupid of me not to take that into account with my starting lineup. That H next to Turner sway me.

Mignolet saved me, between him and Kolo that penalty was worth 16 points.

Bit concerned to miss out on goals for a number of popular attackers today but hopefully my lot can do the business.

People with high scores are always the loudest here, so they seem like the majority.

I always have to laugh when they're posting their huge scores halfway through the gameweek, when they have no players left to play. The only thing that matters is having as much points possible after the gameweek ends.

I guess the sight of me at the bottom of my mediocre work league makes it look worse that it is. They've had most their players in action. I'll be top by Monday night 🙂

I'd say that doesn't matter either. That's just one thirtyeigth of the season!

Aye. Its all the RVP captainers.
I'm all for captaining such a player most games.
But when Hazard is staring a dgw at home to rubbish twice in the face, you'd need to be mad to go rvp captain.
