Monitor – Philippe Coutinho

Heading into the home game against Stoke, Philippe Coutinho was one of the most popular picks around. Second only to Eden Hazard in terms of midfield ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the Liverpool winger was heavily backed to run riot against the Potters after a thrilling first few months on Merseyside last time round.

Unfortunately for his Fantasy owners, Coutinho returned a blank while Iago Aspas and Daniel Sturridge picked up the points after combining for the Reds’ match-winner. As we edge ever-closer to the weekend’s fixtures, we take a look back at the Brazilian’s display against Mark Hughes’ side and assess the underlying data in our first Monitor article of the new season.

I fear I made a big mistake with my FT with my RVP team. I went Barkley in for Kim.

Trouble is my strategy was based around rotating 2 cheap mids.

Now I have Ravel and Barkley. I'm hoping West Ham are poor V Newcastle, Ravel Shines on Monday V Cheltenham and comes in GW3 and Barkley holds his spot. Unless I take a -4 I will need to use my next FT on getting out Lukaku or Hazard and benching the other in GW3

Having pondered for so long on a tactic for a squad with RVP I'm hoping to save the WC until later in the season, say for getting out of a bumper DGW...Hopefully I can get to Christmas in good nick with MINIMAL hits. Points hits towards the end of last season back fired (having used WC early). 2nd season. As long as I improve on last I'll be chuffed! 🙂

A defender who seems to be overlooked a bit is Vidic. He is now 6m, which I reckon is a good deal when you think that is the same as Johnson, Zabeleta etc

I recall a few years ago when he was 8m...for a defender !

United will keep clean sheets and will get the odd goal here and there. I have brought him in for Ash Cole for GW2.

Anyone else agree he is a good defender to have ? 🙂

      then again he haven't played every match for 2 year because of injuries so wouldn't count on him doing so this year either. and we don't yet know how his playing style tempts bonus points. atm there are few defs that are bound to get bps if the clean sheets come by: mertesacker, williams, vertonghen, hangeland..
