Monitor – Philippe Coutinho

Heading into the home game against Stoke, Philippe Coutinho was one of the most popular picks around. Second only to Eden Hazard in terms of midfield ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the Liverpool winger was heavily backed to run riot against the Potters after a thrilling first few months on Merseyside last time round.

Unfortunately for his Fantasy owners, Coutinho returned a blank while Iago Aspas and Daniel Sturridge picked up the points after combining for the Reds’ match-winner. As we edge ever-closer to the weekend’s fixtures, we take a look back at the Brazilian’s display against Mark Hughes’ side and assess the underlying data in our first Monitor article of the new season.

Was listening to TalkSport (don't judge me) on my way home from work. They had an Interviewer outside Stamford Bridge who was chatting with 3 Chelsea fans. He asked them about Mourinho and they all purred about the special one's return, their responses were somewhere between admirable loyalty and sickening sycophancy.

When the interviewer cheekily tested their claims of unconditional love by probing with "until he loses a game of course" they protested. One said "No way, he's not Benitez, he actually knows what he's doing" and another declared that they trusted Jose 100% regardless of results.

The interviewer then asked them about what they thought about possible signing of Rooney which was met with silence and then some sighs & groans. One said he wasn't good enough for Chelsea, didn't rate him, another said they need a striker but should get someone like Lewandowski instead. When the interviewer pointed out to them that Rooney was Mourinho's choice they failed to see the contradiction.

Have anybody been paying attention to NTIs and rises/falls. Do FISO have it correct formulae-wise? As far as I see nobody has dropped yet. I'm looking at you Lukaku you big Belgian! Of course if he starts and scores he should be safe.

  We've seen the percentages change a bit over night due to miscalculations from the FISO-guys.
  That's just the usual rust in the machinery that we see in the beginning of every season.
  
  It's not far from correct now though, so expect to see the formula hitting the spot after a few more days.
