Spot the Differential – Gameweek 3

As the minutes tick away towards the Gameweek 3 deadline, our weekly assessment of some overlooked Fantasy alternatives is rolled out again. We’ve a trio of wide men with favourable fixtures for your perusal this morning, with a Tyne-Wear duo and north London option all worthy of our attentions.

Hatem Ben Arfa

It’s hardly been the best of starts for Newcastle. A couple of games into the season and the Tyneside team have yet to register a league goal, continuing a run that has now seen them find the net twice in their last eight league matches.

If there’s one person capable of putting a smile back on Alan Pardew’s face, though, it’s Hatem Ben Arfa. The mercurial Frenchman climbed off the bench in the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Morecambe and immediately made the difference, setting up assists for both the Magpies’ late strikes.

With a home clash against Fulham this weekend followed by showdown against Villa and Hull, Ben Arfa may well finally deliver on the potential that has seen him register eight attempts on goal thus far. At 7.0 in Fantasy Premier League (5.9 in Sky Sports and 3.5 in Sun Dream Team) and with a 4% ownership, the fleet-of-foot-Frenchman looks a decent short-term punt heading into the deadline.

Adam Johnson

The Sunderland winger is another whose statistics suggest he’s been a little unlucky not to pick up the points. So far, only five midfielders have created more goalscoring opportunities for team-mates that Johnson, while his eye for goal has produced five attempts without any degree of success.

Nevertheless, his displays hint he could be set for an upturn in Fantasy output as the former City wide man attempts to return to the form that harvested five goals and nine assists for the Black Cats last time around. A trip to Selhurst Park, where he faces a Palace side without a point to their name, affords Johnson the perfect platform to finally get his campaign up and running.

At 7.0 in FPL (7.4 in Sky Sports and 3.5 in Sun Dream Team) and 3% ownership, he could appeal to those on the lookout for a one-week punt ahead of the international break – with Arsenal, Liverpool and United in three of the following four, however, the upcoming schedule is far from encouraging.

Andros Townsend

The typically high-scoring north London derby brings the Tottenham wide man onto our radar this time around. Having dazzled in last week’s Europa League win over Dinamo Tbilisi, Townsend retained his starting berth against Swansea last Sunday and provided the assist for Roberto Soldado’s converted spot-kick.

With Aaron Lennon still likely to miss out due to a foot problem, Townsend looks set to be unleashed against Kieran Gibbs on the flank in Sunday’s showdown against Arsenal – given that the previous five Emirates encounters have harvested 30 goals, a goalless game looks highly unlikely.

A price of just 5.5 in FPL (4.6 in Sky Sports and 2.5 in Sun Dream Team) and ownership of under 1% makes Townsend a real under the radar option before Erik Lamela and the incoming Christian Eriksen stake a claim for starting roles in the attacking midfield positions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Still the principle is there - Hazard 0.2 down could be a bargain, although I'm a little concerned about his game time.

102.4 mainly down to Barkely, Coleman, Silva.

Would quite like to cash in 0.2 of Barkley's rise as he's going to head back to where he came from when Gibson gets back.

A goal this week would be great - up to 5.1 and then sell for 0.3.

    Dzeko.

    Are people overly panicking?

    Facts.

    * MoM performance in first game despite not scoring.

    * Goal in second game.

    * subbed after 60mintes. Due to performance or gash on chin ?

    * Pellegrini seems to like him and has states he's his 'main man'

    * City have dropped 3 points out of 6. Cant afford to drop anymore.

    * however, Negredo will start some time - the perfect game?

    * Will Pelle wield the axe after Cardiff?

They just have options thats why it is too risky, and despite Tott form Walcott is the player most due a goal with so many shots on target being saved for him and also hit the bar in europa. But Dzeko could go off, so if you got balls maybe go with him. I could not handle a 1 pointer for my capt especially before the international break

    Any thoughts on the below?

    (A) If you have neither but want one, is Shaw wipers the extra 0.2m over Clyne?
    (B) Kevin Mirallas - will he come good or worth looking at Barkeley as a cheap option into Everton and upgrading elsewhere?
    (C) Brady has great fixtures after City, anyone expect him to pick up some decent points or is any midfielder who plays for Hull always going to be facing a bit of an FPL uphill battle?

      A) I don't think so
      B) Keep the faith in Mirallas. 7.5 mid, so he's not that big of a risk. Lots of talk about Gibson. I think Barkely will soon be second fiddle unless he performs out of his skin. Gibson will definitely be in to try and shackle the big boys when they come to town though.
      C) Bargain players all you can hope for is that they play week in week out, but he does look like great potential.

My wish list for this GW:
    1. Dzeko to start for City.
    2. Clyne to start for Soton.
    3. Mirallais to finally score.
    4. Newcastle to finally score.
    3. Each of NLD,Utd vs Pool to be goals fests.
Possibility of all of them happening?

If you have neither, you cap’n Silva.

    Hey guys
Would you take a hit (-4) to field 11 players? 3.1 left

    Boruc
    Zaba, Coleman, Garrido,
    Mirallas, Nolan, Gerrard, Wally
    Soldy, Anelka

Bn > Benteke, Tiote, CAshley n Baker

I was thinking in Benteke > Aguero, but I'm not convinced to lose Benteke.
So maybe a mid/long term transfers
    for my 5th mid(Tiote > JWP/Witthingham) or
    5th def(Baker > Chester).

With so many options in the middle. Who do you reckon will be the most nailed on mids for Spurs this season. Was thinking about transferring in Paulinho but considering the truckload of players tht have arrived since, even he might become a rotation risk

    -------------------Hart

    Zabaleta---Nastasic----Lescott-------Clichy

    --------------Fernandinho------Yaya----------

    Nasri-----------Silva----------------Aguero-----

    ----------------------Negredo

Really fancy this line up. Nasri and Negredo to start ahead of Navas and Dzeko Imo. Nasri is a lot more dynamic than Navas. And they could easily play it through the middle

You're relying on him scoring or assisting twice inside 60 mins? Too risky for me.

I went Dzeko(c) last week and it paid off.. but I got very very lucky. He was rubbish in his build up play but that goal was special.

Despite all this "confidence", am I the only one that thinks he doesn't get on with his team mates?

Manchester City FC have scored in each of their last 51 home league matches, the longest current such run.

      Just follow the flowchart:

If you have Aguero, you cap’n him.
If you have Walcott but not Aguero, you cap’n him.
If you have neither, you cap’n Silva.
Got none of them? You cap’n Giroud.
Not got him either? Then you cap’n Goldado.
      If all else fails, RVP.

Any chance we'll know lineups before the early kickoff?

Could make the whole Sliva/Dzeko/Walcott debate a little easier

Any truth to the Rumour of Butland to WBA on a 12 week loan to cover Fosters Inj?
5m and I would prefer him to Myhill.
    Thanks.
