Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope Returns

This evening we bring back the Scout’s Suspension Tightrope widget, which is now available in your right sidebars under the Watchlist rankings.

For those of you less familiar with these pages, the tightrope offers a window into the more nefarious antics of the Premier League and the impact these indiscretions may have upon our Fantasy form. Cards are counted up from League Cup, FA cup and Premier League matches and the table is updated after each Gameweek – we’ll aim to share the Fantasy implications of the latest yellows and reds dished out by referees as we go.

We’ll bring you news of all the suspensions to blight our game, along with a regular update of the yellow card totals of the most heinous perpetrators as they approach the precipice of a ban and mount the ‘Suspension Tightrope’.

At present, there is just one player currently teetering on the brink of a one-match ban. Arsenal’s Mathieu Flamini is the man in question, after picking up his fourth caution of the season in the Gunners’ draw against West Brom on Sunday afternoon – the Frenchman has now been booked in four of his five league appearances since returning to the Emirates this summer.

Given Flamini’s propensity for picking up yellows, he looks highly likely to be facing suspension soon – essentially, he has to avoid incurring the referee’s wrath up to and including December 31, when the card quota is then extended to 10.

Plenty of others currently sit on three yellows, with just a couple more cautions set to trigger a ban. Amongst the most notable in Fantasy terms, the list includes Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, who is owned by 30% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, whilst cut-price midfielder Ross Barkley and Ravel Morrison are also in the mix, along with the likes of Craig Gardner, Jon Walters and Marouane Chamakh.

Fernando Torres and Lucas are now both available after each served a one-match suspension in the previous Gameweek. Torres is still sidelined with a knee injury, though, while his former Liverpool team-mate is expected to return to the fold as Brendan Rodgers takes his team to Tyneside to face Newcastle next time around.

Is anyone else considering aguero this year? He seems to smash it up at home which is quite handy in a captain choice.

I'm considering trading him in for Rooney in 2 weeks time as MU fixtures sour and Man City are home to Norwich followed by away to Sunderland. Obviously a lot can change but could to plan early and have funds ready and other transfers done in preparation

Congrats on the FA Cup success !

Think Aguero could be a good shout but still want to see if Pellegrini persistently rests him before Champion's League matches and how far they go in Champion's League

He should be an every game player, but think he seems oddly too fragile for it (doesn't look it by his physique, but his injury history says otherwise)

I'm considering it but I've been stung by Ageuro before. He seems to bang 2 in against big teams like United and Liverpool and then do feck all against the likes of Norwich and Sunderland

It's the rotation that haunts me. At that price, I'd want my player to be a captain potential. But you can never be sure he will start for certain against an easy team at home.

how typical. deadzone and i still get last comment lol..

    my next few transfer ideas:

moses -> silva, ramsey -> walcott, whittaker -> baker (leaving me 0 in bank, and giving me this team):

    mignolet, k davies
    terry, coleman, ferdinand, chester, baker
    oscar, silva, walcott, michu, barkley
    giroud, sturridge, lukaku

what do you think? - See more at: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2013/10/08/the-suspension-tightrope-returns-3/?hc_page=5&hc_sort_by=comment_date#hc_comments

transfers sound like a good use of funds and baker's okay as 5th defender

Ferdinand seems risky based on his recent performances though he tweeted that he'll do better and is embarrassed by them

      otherwise looks great

Not sure about Silva these days. Blows very hot and cold. I'd wait on Walcott until you see him fit and playing again.

Prefer to see Suaz in the mix, otherwise, a sound team.

Why Baker? Chester's out, Rio's not a cert- that leaves you 2 playing defenders! I agree with Jafa on Silva but I'd always consider him and too soon on Walcott. Sorry but there much better options out there at the moment imo.

can only afford a 3.9 defender. unless wally goes down again, then i can afford 4.0. and i think rio's pretty safe for league games at least. and there's no way i'm wasting a transfer on chester, and hull is decent defensively, so i'm just going to wait until he comes back

I agree, Hold onto Chester, but Baker is not the answer. Silva has Wham & Chelsea both away so I wouldn't be in big rush to get him ( granted, he can score well against anyone). so I'd hold fire till nearer the time.

I don't know a lot about baker, doubt he is nailed on but nor are other 3.9m alternatives. Depending on timing Ramsey may rise again this week (not sure if that will help your resale value). Another 0.1 will give you better 5th DF 4.0m alternatives, you never know when you may come to rely on them.

I also have to admit I am not sure on Silva, he just does not score enough goals regularly. Oscar may be a better prospect this year despite the rotation.

Getting Walcott in when fit seems like a no-brainer despite his lack of early returns

'Breakfast Club' is my favorite. It was actually recommended by someone in DZ last year - it was my first introduction to the 'Rat Pack' / coming of age genre. I can't remember who recommended it, but I am grateful to them. Only in the DZ 😀

I am bummed out or Team India has been dispersed...and I feel bad that we will have to obliterate fellow DZ'ers in the group stages but such is life!

Breakfast Club is probably the best film. Ferris Bueller is very enjoyable and possibly the ultimate 80s movie.

Pretty in Pink and the other one with the drummer...what was that called? Kind of interchangeable rich boy / poor girl or poor boy / rich girl movies but good nonetheless.

there's been nearly nothing going on here all day man

think during normal hours, there were about 5 pages, and most of that was one excellent hot topic post about people who lurk on the site by Tinkerman

this int'l break is slower than the last one

So I need a 5th MF to replace Kim and play the next 2 games whilst Brady is out and has rubbish fixtures anyway.
If I can get them for under $4.9m it gives me the option of getting in Walcott and Aguerio (for Erik / Rooney) as my next 2 potential transfers
    Its Januzaj isn't it?

I don't have Ravel, I think he may be better season prospect but I would need him to play next 2 MCY, swa which I just don't fancy
I think Jan could outscore him by more than 4 over those 2 weeks (which is the effective cost of a transfer) and will make me money into the bargain

Ravel seems more nailed on at this point

Januzaj will be rotated due both to size of squad and Moyes' desire to ease him along; think he will be a hot prospect for next year possibly, but will likely not start half the games in the Prem going forward

I hear you. Got a 3 yr old girl myself. Having been busy lately I took the opportunity last night to take her out for haagen dazs.

          Conversation on the way home:

Me: Think she's eaten too much?
Wife: Nah she can handle it - she's a machine
Me: Feel her tummy, it's like a rock!
          Wife: Nah she's fine

1am I hear coughing, go to her bed

          Big burp, pick her up.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM projectile vomit... all over my face. It was like something out of the exorcist.

Poor little girl was so shocked she didn't even cry.

Ouch. You're at a very tough stage with those ages then! Gets better from the age of 2 - worry not 😀 I'm sure when teens hit I'll be yearning for the days when she effs off to uni though 😀

I remember another priceless conversation at 18

me: Dad I'm going to uni in Sept
              Dad: oh where?
              me: Leeds

Flying with my 3 year old son. As we descend he can't pop his ears, we're giving him drinks, things to eat, practice yawning and all that but they won't pop.

We land and he's a bit distressed. "My ears don't work"

We keep trying through disembarkation' "my ears don't work", immigration, "my ears don't work" and baggage collection "my ears don't work daddy!"

Finally he needs the toilet near baggage collection. I bring him in, sit him down and PRAPPPPPPPP he has a massive dump.

              He looks up.

              "My ears work now daddy"

              I buckled.

Handsome guy by most countries standards, but kind of average for the Spanish national squad

Fernandinho seems to have freed up other midfielders to attack more. Yaya may be benefitting more than Silva and FPL irrelevant yet class player Navas.

If Nasri was more nailed on, he'd be a better option. But if the sky looked like rainbows normally and rainbows were blue, it wouldn't be that cool, it would just be normal.

      BBarKley, Ramsey, Anafitano.

Paulinho is a great player but ultimately is a defensive mid scoring a few goals. Might bring less points if Spurs attack up their scoring rate and he won't be needed to get forward as much. If AVB states he wants him to add to his attacking returns get him.

I would go for paulinho yes. Spurs have great fixtures and he is the player getting in the box most and having the most shots from close range. His quality of shot is the questionable bit but defeinitely a good option at that price.

I'm wondering whether to bring him in or not myself but I don't really need to make the transfer - would be for ramsey and don't want to rush into ditching him - so I'll watch one more game.

I personally think FPL-wise, ozil will be a flop. Football wise he could win arsenal the league but it won't IMO be by scoring 200+ points which is what he'll need to justify his value - 230 to be considered a must have. *Nobody* gets this score without being a prolific goalscorer.

I have put my money where my mouth is on this too... Brought him in on my WC and then sold him a week later (last week) after deciding it had been a rash decision to buy him and the worst thing to do would be to remain stubborn.

Mids I think will come good at highish price: walcott, michu, maybe Oscar

Mid priced I have faith in Paulinho to come good and haven't ruled out ramsey staying worth the cash

Mou has said he wants to build his play around oscatr as his no 10. And oscar is regularly getting into scoring positions but i lacking in finishing. He is the only one worth buying from the chelsea attack for now. When mata or hazard get into form you can switch.

Just seen that hot topic post on lurkers.

To turn it around, does anyone else get hacked off when you make an effort to reply to an RMT from a lurker or a newbie and you get no reply back from them?

Does my head in. This, I'm sure, is one of the reasons why the lurkers, newbies, get so few replies.

    Comments please.

      It's a great hot topic.

I think manners indicate a thanks to people who respond to their queries.

One thing I would say is that sometimes I ask something and am not online for a while; I would drop a thanks out when I get back but people might miss it.

Agreed, if I put up an RMT, I always try to respond to each reply. Just out of courtesy.

As you mention manners, I think a couple of things that come under the term etiquette, can be highlighted:

        1. As mentioned, out of courtesy, reply to responses of your thread.

        2. Do not interupt a thread with an entirely different topic e.g. Beach volleyball fanatics.

I try to answer to RMTs by both newbies as well as old folks but rarely get replies on mine. Maybe cuz i am an irregular poster on here. Though i never lurk, i post whenever i am online. Just dont get enough time to be on here..

      I agree.

Also think anybody can post something with a bit of thought and imagination and get replies.

I'm not especially active compared to many but when I want to get a debate going I tend to throw out a slightly controversial opinion or question, one I believe in but that I know will get a mixed response.

RMT with no thought process is about as pathetic as a post can get

I have no problem with the RMT per se, it's the lack of response afterwards that bugs me. Ideally, a spirit of co-construction needs to exist to work towards the best way forward.

i also like to see some thought e.g. RMT + my thoughts + my possible ideas for change

I suppose there's nothing wrong with RMT on its own but it doesn't inspire enthusiasm unless it is a terrible team haha which may explain some negative responses

Alright lads, hit me. I've two free transfers (0 in the bank) but not sure what to do and I don't want one to go to waste.

Also, would you leave the line-up as is, or play Ravel over Barkley?

Saving th FT will mean I'm losing out on a FT as you can only have 2 at a time. 😕

definitely play barkley over ravel as you have atm. basically you have no need for a transfer if you like your rooney + paulinho. if not, then consider giroud or ramsey

better to 'waste' it then. worst case scenario is you do something that needs to be undone and then you really lose your 2nd FT

Disagree personally and think a rigid 3-4-3 is possibly why so many good FPL players are doing badly this season.

Name a midfielder at the same price as walker who is expected to outscore him. I find that difficult.

Same goes for baines, terry etc IMO

Then why spend money on Turner and Clyne?

We have 5 spots for two spaces, so why not pump the money into areas where they'll be more useful, and give more flexibility long term?

Because if you play the averages, mids/forwards are more likely to score more in a given week. Can a defender score 3 goals in a single game? They have no potential for explosion. Maximising your chances.

for captaincy that would make sense but I think it is about expectation rather than potential to explode. There is also potential for an attacking drfender to get cs+goal/assist+bonus at a very cheap price

It's a good point. But I can't see anyone good before I get to 7.0 and downgrading walker to Dawson won't help with that.

My team looks good on paper.

I've been saying this for a few weeks now and I've been struggling for a few weeks too.

    Chesney, Davis
    Zab, Vidic, Toure, Figueroa, Celustka
    Oscar, Michu, Eriksen, Ramsey, Januzaj
    Sturridge, Soldado, Lukaku

Anything need to be changed or freshened up a little?

One obvious choice is Soldado but the defence isn't giving the returns it should either.

      Sporting? You still here?

You have missed out on the Saints clean sheets - and those of Spurs.

      | know that I am no good, but I would not pick Celustuka at any price. You have been needlessly stubborn with Soldado. And Eriksen is not flourishing in the Premiership. We all got suckered into the United defence - and it may well work over the next two game weeks. Touré may become a problem for you.

Celustka was punt from the start of the season. Conscious bench fodder but still a small weak point. However, with Figueroa returning CS's, I'm OK with him as 3rd sub.

The MUN defence is the least of my worries at the back. Zab has been poor and, although Toure is playing well, the LIV defence is shaky.

Out of Eriksen and Soldado, I have the most faith in Eriksen. I know there has been analysis of him vs Paulinho vs Siggy but I still believe he will provide the sparks.

And I still have a WC up my sleeve.
