The Community Round Up

The community rallies round to help Mark begin one of the most dramatic comebacks Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has ever seen. Liverpool’s key assets come under the microscope and we also take a look at some potential ‘season keepers’. Meanwhile, there’s the community leagues to catch up on and we find out why a Russian-themed team have plenty to smile about…

Hottest Topics

After spending years giving out Fantasy Football advice the community decided to help Mark out with his ailing team in one of our busiest hot topics this week. Among those to offer advice were Fysh who would like to see him swap Hatem Ben Arfa and Christian Eriksen for an Arsenal and Chelsea midfield pairing. Jafalad highlights that Romelu Lukaku, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil and Luis Suarez could be the key men to see him climb up the rankings. While Alberto Tomba also gives Mark the ‘Full Jonty’ treatment assessing where it went wrong for his team. Mark also chips in with his current transfer plans and how his hopes are pinned firmly to a strong performance from Manchester City’s assets.

Another to think Suarez is key to FPL performance is Floydy Floyd who believes he is currently the best player in the Premier League. Among those to agree were Chu Young Ping Pong while Gooner of Oz was among those to back Özil for that accolade.

In a similar vein The Parmtree asked which players could be classed as ‘season keepers’. Pundit of Punts backs Artur Boruc, Suarez, John Terry and Ravel Morrison to stay in his team for the whole season, while  Alberto Tomba believes Olivier Giroud will be a season keeper, assuming Arsenal do not sign any more strikers.

Other players being considered this week include the now cut price Glen Johnson. The Liverpool defender looks an outstanding out of position prospect if Liverpool stick with their 3-5-2 formation, but Zepinho remains sceptical. His research found that in the last two years he has returned just two goals and only six assists, a record that compares poorly to the likes of Leighton Baines, Patrice Evra and Terry.

You Must Be Jokin Ere has been taking a stock check of the bonus point allocation so far in FPL. Turns out that after an initial dominance from defenders, the midfielders are at last fighting back and taking a bigger slice of the bonus cake.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First  – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below  two million in the first five game weeks, sees BarboaII hang on to his lead with an overall score of 441 and rank of 207,63. Five teams are in the top 500,000 and of the 23 teams that entered 13 are now in the top one million.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix’s Friends Life competition Daniel, Beric and and Al Pacino are the league leaders.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin_Dude, Larn Dart, Crouch Potato and Binji, who is top of both the All Things Michu and the All Things Kolarov leagues.

The teams to emerge victorious from the pre-tournament friendlies in FFS UEFA’s  Beach Soccer World Cup tournament were Iran, Senegoal, Spain, Paraguay, Netherlands, Spurgentina, Russia and Solomon Islands. As part of Russia’s victory over Ukraine I was contractually obliged to post this hot topic. Listen out for further contractual obligations on this week’s podcast.

        Yea it's been on Suarez ever since Sunday night, just tempted to put it on Giroud since Palace is managerless.

        That being said, it's definitely between Suarez and Giroud. You're usually spot on with captain choices as far as I've noticed! 🙂

    Some thoughts would be much appreciated boys.

    2FT and 0.3M in the bank.

    A) What would you do? I'm thinking Siggy to 7.5M or less and save the other FT
    B) Who would you capt? I'm thinking RVP(c) Suarez(vc) (if fit, or else Suarez(c) )
    C) Bench JT over the others yeah?

    Vorm
    Vidic Dawson Clyne
    Michu Barkley Ramsey Siggy
    RVP Suarez Gru

      If i was you i would do, RvP to Aguero and Siggy to Hazard. Your choice of captaincy is correct imo. And ya bench Terry do that he can come as a sub if Vidic doesnt play.

      A) Siggy -> Lallana would be my pick although Paulinho would also be good if you don't mind the slightly sideways move.
      B) Suarez should be captain. RVP and United are really struggling for goals whereas Suarez has the stats massively in his favour. Personally I'm captaining Giroud though, Palace will be an easy game and Giroud won't be taken off till they have a healthy lead (where he would have scored a goal or two).
      C) I'd bench Terry. City will probably score and you're other starters face teams who struggle to attack.

        I think Utd are pick up form and i rate West Brom. Always prefer captaining a home game guy and RVP is a differential amongst serious managers i reckon.

        I'm maybe thinking Ravel or Dyer in so that i can upgrade Whittingham or Ramsey to Oscar/Haz sharpish but a defender downgrade..

          Yeah both your argument against Suarez and my argument against RVP (or in my case Rooney) is why I've chosen to back Giroud.

      Would wait for the pressers on injury news for Vidic and RVP, but even then I'd try to get in a Chelsea attacker even for this GW. RVP and Siggy to Aguero and Hazard/Oscar perhaps. Sets yourself up quite well for next week too (potentially saving next week FT).

      A) I agree, he's should be your priority. How about Siggy to Mirallas? I know you have Barkley, but not sure I'd worry too much about that. Aston Villa and Palace in the next 3.
      B) RVP is a doubt last I checked, I'd go Suarez (c) Giroud (vc).
      C Yeah, I'm benching him for MTurner this GW.

    Torn between Suarez and Giroud for the armband. Whom to captain? Bookies favor Suarez but then Giroud is playing well and against Palace. Almost all strikers score against palace. Suarez facing WBA who are playing really really well.

    Coleman over Moses because I expect a 2-2 or a 3-3 between Villa and Everton and fancy him for an assist. I am not confident Liverpool will score this week, and if they do I don't fancy Moses to be amongst the action.

          Unforunately i keep telling myself that and he keeps on scoring or assisting. Whether he's rested this weekend, he's bordering the fine line of being good for value. 2-3 more price rises and there would be better options elsewhere.

          That being said, brought him in this week. Can't risk not having Ramsey against Palace, even if he doesn't start. Too many active players have him imo. Saw the stat where 80% of the top 25K have him or something?

    Right then, with reference to the question above (thanks for the reply), how about Siggy or Whitt to Ravel or Dyer maybe?

    Anyone whose seen the Swans games, is Dyer a decent enough attacking threat? Or Routledge even maybe?

      I like Ravel a lot at that price, he seems to be nailed and with his fixtures I think I'd be comfortable starting him. With PHernandez coming back and Michu being used in the hole I'm not sure Dyer and Rout are nailed anymore.

    Kompany back this w/e dents the appeal of Hazard a little then.

    Probably best to save the transfer here right?

    Boruc
    Baines, Toure, Clyne
    Michu, Ramsey, Mirallas, Ravel
    Suarez, Giroud, Sturridge

    Davis, Nolan, Terry, Ward
    Bank 2.2m, 1 freebie

    Plan for next week is Sturridge -> Aguero so will need to keep 1.8m back for that.

    I have 2ft, but don't know what to do. Help please!

    ------------------------Mignolet------------------------(Lewis)

    -------Walker-------Coleman--------Evra---------(Chester, Chambers)

    --Özil-------Michu-------Ramsey------Moses--(Brady)

    --------Suarez------Rooney------Lukaku--------

    I know Chester and especially Chambers should go. The problem is I have only 0.3 in bank so I can't make a straight swap to Clyne.

    How about?
    A) Coleman --> Chico/Clyne

    or

    B) Coleman --> G. Johnson and Mignolet --> Boruc
    (I can't do just Seamus -> Glen because I already have three Pool players)

            Worst case scenario, he's 9.4 after 2 GWs. I'd be comfortable paying that price for him with those fixtures. Not in a rush to ditch an in-form striker like Giroud, however I could see RVP going to free up some serious dosh.

    Captain decision between Suarez/Giroud? Here's some simple goal stats;

    In their away games, West Brom have;
    - 2 out of poss 4 clean sheets
    - 2 goals conceeded

    In their four home games, Crystal palace have;
    - 0 out of poss 4 clean sheets
    - 8 goals conceeded
    . . . and either no manager, or a new one

    Giroud or Ozil (C) for me

      he had a good game. but again, united took more control of the game when Rooney dropped deeper into midfield.

      Take what you may from that, could still be a good pick this weekend. Rmbr captaining him against Stoke at home last year even though Stoke were rock solid. Was a 4-1 if I recall.
